Chapter 2
I spent a couple of days waiting for my family. No sign of anyone. I had managed to retrieve food from the Scottish man's food stall. He was flirting with another woman and I pretended to slip face first onto his stall table, flipping it over. And as everyone gathered round I hastily took a handful of food with me while running away.
It was a good plan, even though I formulated it at the last minute... Alright! I really did slip on the table and now there's a fist sized bruise on my face. I never knew I was this clumsy. I really did need food, I was getting too skinny for my own liking.
I had contemplated going to the pirate man but I never got his name and he was probably gone by now. None the less, I decided to take a look at the ship yard and hastily made my way over to the front of the, now, sunny island of Nassau. When I arrived I saw lots of ships but one big one caught my eye. It looked extremely shabby and torn up. Nah, not a man of that sophistication would have a boat like that, would he? I walked past it only to see a shock of blond hair. It was long like a lady might have, well long for a man I mean. Oh wait...
"Pirate man!" I shouted, waving my arms about. I found the man I was looking for, why hadn't he left yet? He was positioned on the front of the ship, staring out onto the water occasionally chatting with the man beside him. He didn't seem to hear me so I made a statement by shouting louder. The men who were packing things onto the ship looked at me strangely. One of them said,
"Yeah? What 'bout it?"
Oh he looked mean. I backed away apologising in Spanish only to realise that he didn't speak to me in Spanish. Oh god, I'm having a mental breakdown. The pirate man took no notice, standing on his ship staring into the horizon. Awfully dramatically actually.
"Oi! Girly haired man!" I shouted. No notice. "Blondie! Chubby! Pirate!? BLOND HAIRED MAN!? CAPTAIN OF THE SHIP!?". I tried using multiple insults or phrases and I knew people were on the verge of throwing me into the water. I gave up and backed away as all the crew looked at me with fire in their eyes. I scoffed at them and turned on my heels when I heard a voice shout to me.
"Oh god!" The blond pirate finally noticed me. I turned around with rage in my eyes.
"REALLY!? I'LL CLIMB UP THAT SHIP TO POUND YOU INTO DUST MYSELF!" I ran at the ship, not realising the only way to get on the ship was by the platform and I slipped down a hill of mud straight into the water. What is wrong with me?
I panicked while in the water, of course. I had food in my pockets! They would be sodding wet by now. I wanted to destroy that ship for the tragedies it caused me today. I struggled to get back out but when I did all I could hear was laughing. Bollocks, that's embarrassing even for me. I cringed as I clambered out of the water, my long hair sticking to me like one of those leach things that can kill you. I tried to whip it out of my face but it just flapped back onto my shoulder so I gave up quickly.
Maybe this wasn't a great idea for me... No. So I turned around on my un-merry way, the pirates staring after me in amusement.
A few hours later, it was dark and all the streets were illuminated by torches. I was sitting by a little marketing stall for ships or something. I ended up back near the ships because I had to run away from the same stall I always steal from. I wonder how many times I've broken his table? Was it normal wood or a special type of wood? I wonder where he got it? Maybe I could build...
I was alerted from my thoughts when I heard a heavy bang. I turned to see a bigger ship bombing the harbour. I had no idea why but didn't question it for a second. I got up and started to sprint but my food rolled out of my hands, (did I mention this food was half of a pineapple. I don't even know what that is!) of course by instinct I went to save it. But the rumbles of the canons on the ground forced me to fall and stumble face first into the mud. I still reached out my hand to the now muddied piece of fruit.
"I can't leave you!" I clambered to my knees in the ruckus. "A good warrior never leaves her comrade behind." I shouted to my pineapple and nearly grabbed it. "Hold on!" I shouted to it.
Now I think about it, talking to food, isn't that a little out of the ordinary? People could call me certifiably insane.
I pushed my body forward grabbing onto the pineapple and protecting it with my body. I then jumped up and started sprinting forward, which I now realise was stupid because I was getting closer to the enemy ship.
It was getting smoky and I could hardly see anything, so I ran forward and didn't look back. It was an extremely stupid idea but I needed my food to be safe.
I found safety within a collection of barrels. They had a net on top of them so, I took off the net, clambered inside the space the barrels had given me and put the net back over my head. I felt safe at least in here. I felt a canon crash nearby and squealed, squeezing my pineapple. Something bashed my head, it wasn't a cannonball it was like... A piece of wood. Where was I? But soon enough, to my luck of course, a bigger block of wood crashed on me and everything went black.
When I woke, the light pierced my eyes like a stupid woman might pierce her belly-button. I squinted to see the net still over me and the great plank of wood that nearly cost me an eternal sleep. I could smell the sea close. Great! I'm still on the harbour thank god! And even better, my pineapple is still with me but... It needs a wash...
It was a hot day, I was already starting to sweat. I never really liked hot weather, I liked the weather in England more (which says something about me). I kicked the barrel in front of me and it clambered to the floor. I ripped the net away and stood up, stretching my arms and yawning. When I opened my eyes properly, I gasped and jerked back. I had managed to stumble onto a ship. I looked up hastily to see a black flag.
A pirate ship.
I screamed and all the crew turned to look at me. Some of them raised their weapons at once. I backed away until I hit the side of the ship. I looked over the side to see only sea. I stifled another scream as I turned back around to be faced with a ragged faced man.
"Who are you?" He asked angrily.
"Pardon?" I stammered, recognising the man from somewhere.
"WHO are YOU?" He repeated firmly and I jumped in surprise.
"I... I don't know! Don't kill me!" I put my hands up in front of me, as if that was going to help.
"She doesn't know who she is!" The man turned around to his crew and they all started laughing. I recognised him then. It was that annoying pirate man who tried to employ me for his ship.
One of the crew pointed at me.
"I know 'er! She's the stupid wench that fell into the sea today!" Some of the men made noises in recognition.
"Oh yes, it's you." The pirate in front of me tightened his grip. "Why are you on the Jackdaw?"
My first thoughts were 'But I'm not on a bird' but I realised that was his ship's name.
"I- I must've ran onto it by mistake during the... The bombing last night!" I stumbled and he sighed impatiently.
"Should we throw her overboard or let her live?" The blond looked at the crew behind him. They all cheered for overboard and the blond shrugged.
"I have to go with the crew's decision, lady." He said calmly. I started panicking as my pineapple rolled out of my hands. As he held me over the side even further a hand came down on his shoulder.
"What ARE you doing?" Came a voice from behind him. The pirate turned around to face a dark skinned man with scars down his cheeks.
"Addy, this wench is on my ship without asking for permission!" He let go of me turning to 'Addy'. Meanwhile I struggled for my pineapple but it was at Addy's feet. He bent down to pick it up and squeezed it in his hand a little. I screamed inside for my child.
"This is yours?" He handed it to me and I nodded vigorously.
He looked back to the blond. "You can't throw a defenseless woman off the ship!" His accent sounded African maybe, I don't know. I'd been to Africa as well, actually. My brother nearly got eaten by a buffalo, it was really funny.
"I don't want her on it! Why not just throw her!?" Blondie exclaimed, turning back to me. I could smell alcohol in his breath.
Ugh! I could have been put on a much nicer ship with insanely handsome and heroic Spaniards who would scoop me up and say, "We'll take care of you forever!" And treat me like an Egyptian princess, being carried around everywhere on a plank of wood! But instead I'm stuck with a drunken lunatic.
"Think about it when your sober. Leave her be for now." The dark man pulled Blondie away.
"Fine but she's gettin' dropped off at the next city we stop at!" His Welsh accent became more apparent when he was drunk. He stumbled away back to his wheel thing, muttering incomprehensible words.
The man who helped me turned to follow the blond but I stopped him.
"Thank- thank you!" I exclaimed nervously.
"No problem ...?" He inclined his head and I blurted out my name.
"Jane...!"
"Ms. Gray. My name is Adéwalé." He said slowly. I nodded and thanked him one too many times. He glanced at me strangely about 3 times when he walked away.
I CHANGED HER NAME OK, 'MARCELLIA' WAS TOO 'MARY-SUE' OK I DON'T KNOW, I LOVE THE NAME BUT IT JUST DOESN'T WORK IN THIS STORY :)
Sorry for the late update and thank you to people who reviewed! xD But yeah, I also tried to make Ade the kind of... how do you say, Malik to your Altair or Leonardo to your Ezio but Adewale isn't the most trutsworthy because Edward was a dick and nobody likes dicks (this is referring to a personality trait ;)), I'll try and progress each character's personality throughout the story. Hopefully I'll nail it (most likely not I suck at capturing character's orignal portrayals.) Hey just so you don't lose hope in me completely, I'll give you a sneak peek of next chap's heart-wrenching events,
" "Jaysus christ woman." And thrust my hand back away. I huffed and placed my hands on my lap. I soon realised something was missing from it.
My pineapple.
My brain was immediately on high alert. I looked around for my pineapple. What if... No... No I can't think about that. It can't be dead... It can't be. My pineapple was wounded but it was somewhere, alive.
Silently, I struggled on my knees to the top of the stairs. The sight I saw before me, may have scarred me.
My pineapple was laying at the bottom of the stairs, crushed by a barrel. My jaw dropped in horror.
"My ... pineapple." I whispered. Edward glanced sideways at me and nudged Adéwalé. Addy came and dragged me back to the back of the ship.
I was numb so I didn't fight back. My pineapple was dead... Crushed. "
