MADDIE POV:

"What is all this stuff for anyways?" Maddie asked Felicia as they started to unload the back of the truck. She would admit that she was glad to be on her feet after the day and a half drive, especially because their truck wasn't the best for road trips. It was one of those cars that you would see the kidnappers on TV drive, dark black and bulky. Scratches from accidents scuffed the painted metal and gave it an older feel. As Felicia had put it, it was Alfred's baby. He wouldn't let anyone drive it, not even Alice, and if anyone were to ask, they would get the most shocking of reactions from the stupidly reckless leader.

"It's for monitoring rooms since we can't be everywhere at once. We have heat sensors, lighting cameras, EVP's, and a whole bunch of other technical stuff that I don't even understand, and they're all attached to these computers." Felicia explained. Besides the old fashioned computers, there were camera's, like Felicia had said, and a few other things that seemed to be molded into the shape of pineapples. She picked one up and looked at Felicia for an explanation. "Those are back up, they're containers containing holy water, salt, and on occasion iron flecks."

"And why do they look like pineapples?"

"Because I was hungry when I made them." Maddie gave her the weirdest of looks, skeptic of the fact. "Actually, I'm pretty hungry right now too." She rubbed her stomach for emphasis.

"You're alvays hungry, Feli." Ludwig breathed, coming up behind her. She smiled playfully.

"Are you going to help us move the equipment?" Maddie asked. He nodded, and started to pick up one of the heavier looking monitors. Once he was out of earshot Maddie said, "If I didn't know that you're already in another relationship, I would say that he likes you."

"Don't know what you mean." Felicia's face twisted up into an odd position. "We've been friends for years, he even insisted that I start dating. He's just a good friend." She seemed to be talking to herself more than Maddie. "We should probably start getting things set up, ve?"

"Sure." The equipment wasn't that heavy, only a few of them were too heavy to carry, causing Felicia to get stuck underneath, crying for help and telling the box that she surrendered. It was a comical sight to see the always happy Felicia bounce back immediately after the box was removed. Ludwig would just shake his head at her weirdness. That happiness soon vanished as Mr. Brunner came to check on how they were doing. We had just finished moving everything into the shed that he had shown us. He looked even more exhausted than before, and the two children that trailed softly behind him were dead quiet.

"Dude, you look like you haven't slept for days," Alfred was quick to remark.

"That's because I haven't. The ghost was watching me all night. Thank goodness that she didn't attack the kids." Mr. Brunner sighed. "Are you all set up? I would appreciate it if the ghost is taken care of soon, I don't think that we'll be able to last much longer."

"Maybe you should stay in a hotel, eh?" Maddie suggested.

"We've tried, but she has just followed us there." Tao was rummaging through her pack at this comment, and pulled out an odd looking piece of jewelry. It had strange characters carved into the surface, surrounded by a pentagon.

"Try these, aru." She handed them to him. "Put them on when you leave and it should be able to mask most spirits from your trail." He thanked her, and left with Tao to begin packing.

"Okay, so now what do we do now that the civilians are out of the way?" Alice was the one to voice everyone's question.

"Well, when Tao comes back she's going to start digging into the history of the house, see if there would be a reason that an angry spirit would live here. And we're going to check out the house for any sign of suspicious stuff." Alfred reasoned. "We'll split up, Ludwig take Felicia and go check the outside area, see if the neighbors have anything to do with it. They might be keeping secrets from Mr. Brunner. Ivan, I'm trusting you with Francis and Maddie, you'll take the second floor and attic. Alice, you and I will be on the base floor. Mr. Brunner has told me that it normally only appears at night, but if we stir the nest enough something should happen, so be aware. We're not going to repeat the Bloody Mary case. Break!"

Following her designated group, Maddie headed up the stairs. It was an older looking house, despite it's young age. A rather drab wallpaper covered every inch of bare wall in sight and she felt tempted to touch it, but decided against it since she had forgotten her gloves in the shed. The doors to the house were squeaky, even when lightly touched. Ivan was as happy as always, a sort of childlike wonder on his face as he headed towards the stairs of the attic. "I will check attic while you do second floor, da?"

"Whatever you want, Ivan." Francis said. The Russian just waved a small goodbye before leaving their sights. "Well now that we are seul , where do you want to check first, chère?"

"Um, w-why don't you check the rooms down the hall while I go and check the places around the office, eh?"

"Tout ce que vous voulez , chère." He whispered, dramatically bowing before he turned to go. Was it always going to be like this? Maddie couldn't help but go bright pink at the thought. Francis was so kind to her, unlike most people would be. Hiding her embarrassed face behind a curtain of blonde hair, she headed to the bathroom near the office, figuring it to be the least likely spot for something spooky to happen. She was wrong. But before she could reach the room, a cold, unsettling presence came.

Shivers ran down her spine as she could feel the sorrow radiating off whatever was here. Her hand was barely inches away from the door handle, but she was frozen. Turning her head around, there was nothing in sight. Shaking her head, and the feeling, away, she clasped her hand on the door handle. She should have worn her gloves. A shock of cold flashed through her hand, her sight going white as she entered one of her visions.

~ "Why doesn't your father love me?" A cold voice asked from behind the pale white door. It was a woman's that was for sure, but it was eerie and withdrawn, like one of those people who should have been stuck in a loony bin. Maddie didn't dare open the door, instead she listened. "Why did your father leave me for her?" It asked again.

"Momma? Is something wrong?" A younger voice asked. It sounded fearful, like it was scared how the woman would react to the question.

"Yes. Your father must pay," The voice had turned into a feral growl, like that of a beast. Splashes of water could be heard, someone fighting against the pull of the water.

"Mommy! Stop, you're hurting me!" The fighting continued before going silent.

"Don't worry, son. Mommy loves you." The woman said again and started to laugh, the sloshing of water the only other sound.~

"Maddie! Êtes-vous bien? Pouvez-vous me l'entendre? Maddie?" Francis's voice pulled her out of the horrifying vision. She peeled her eyes open, to see a pair of cerulean and violet eyes staring back at her own. Ivan must've returned from his search in the attic. That was when she realized that she was on the floor and that her head hurt like hell. Groaning, she sat up, much to the relief of Francis and Ivan. How long had she been out?

"What happened?" Ivan asked. "Francis called me because you had fallen. You were having another видение, da?"

"Pardon?"

"Sorry, forgot. You only know French, da? I said 'vision'. I slip into Russian on occasion." He apologized, fiddling with his scarf.

"So what happened? You were lying on the floor when I was done with my rounds. We've been trying to wake you up for at least ten minutes." Francis asked.

"I don't know, one minute I was heading towards a room and there was this cold feeling, and then I must've blacked out. I had the weirdest dream." She rubbed her head harder, like she was trying to force the blood to circulate in her brain so she could remember. She only succeeded in making her head hurt worse and a slight nauseous feeling come about.

Francis quickly asked, "Qu'avez-vous vu? Tell us, Maddie, before you forget."

"There was this woman's voice. She was talking to this kid and…" Maddie struggled to recall the repressed memories. Then it snapped into place, "Oh, no. Oh, please tell me she didn't." She started to babble as things became clearer. The cackling woman returned, making Maddie cover her ears in fear. This had never happened before. This wasn't normal. The pressure in her head rose and a cold sweat broke out, the unsettling feeling returning more powerful than before.

"Maddie, look at me. Regardez-moi!" She turned to look at Francis, tears at the corner of her eyes. "These things that you saw, you must tell me. It is très important."

Focusing on Francis's concerned eyes, knowing that she needed to tell him, she began to speak slowly, trying her best not to go hysterical again. "The woman… she was with her son. I heard them in the bathroom. The woman was talking about how her husband didn't love her, then she started to…" Maddie struggled to keep everything in check, the image already starting to fade. "I think she drowned him. I think she drowned her son." Francis and Ivan looked at each other grimly.

Turning back to her, their gazes softened. She went red, she was already in shock on the first day of an actual case. They must have been thinking that she was such a whimp. "Revenons aux autres, ils seront inquiets." Francis suggested. Maddie nodded, and got to her feet. Immediately the world began to spin, and she was brought back on her knees. Francis noticed but she was surprised when he picked her up bridal style, careful not to make skin contact. "You cannot walk, non?" He replied at her surprise.

Maddie surprised herself even more, by not arguing, feeling weak and more nauseous from being on her feet. She wasn't sure if she wanted to find out what would happen if she tried to walk on her own. Snuggling closely into Francis's clothes, she couldn't help but note that they smelled nice, like roses and vanilla. He chuckled, but said nothing as they headed down the stairs to to tell the others of this new information.
