When I wrote this story a few years back, I intended to make it a one shot. Since I noticed that some people still have it on their alerts list I decided to make it a two shot. I'm sorry for the very long wait, and I hope you will enjoy it.
Shuffling, the first thing he became aware of was of someone shuffling besides him.
The next thing he noticed was that he was lying in a soft, warm bed instead of outside in the rain. Everything was dark around him. What happened? The last thing he remembered where orcs and a long painful journey home.
"Come on ion nin, open your eyes."
Open your eyes? Ah, that was the reason it was so dark. His eyes were closed.
He tried to open them, but they felt really heavy.
After a lot of effort he finally pried them open.
The room he was in was dimly lit. His father was sitting next to him.
"Ada?" he croaked.
"Yes my son, you gave us quite a scare."
Aragorn smiled weakly.
"Sorry, didn't mean to do that." Elrond just smiled.
"I'll co call your brothers, they'll be happy to hear you're awake." He silently stood up and left the room.
Aragorn looked around. He was in his own room in Rivendell. Everything was just as he left it. The curtains were open and he could see the stars shining outside. Everything was quiet and peaceful just as he remembered it.
"Estel!"
Well, maybe not so quiet.
The twins came rushing into his room, both wearing an identical grin.
"How are you feeling?"
He hadn't really thought about that yet. As he slowly took inventory of his body's various hurts, he realized that they did not pain him very much, most likely thanks to his father's potions.
"I am feeling well my brothers, it is good to be home." His brothers looked skeptical.
"Usually when you say you're fine you're about to drop dead." said Elladan.
"Forgive me for not taking your word for it."
"I checked his wounds before he woke, it will take time, but he is on the mend."
Elrond said to his firstborn sons.
Aragorn shot him a grateful look.
"Now I suggested you get some more sleep Estel. Your body needs lots of rest to heal. We will talk later."
Aragorn realized that he was still very tired and before Elrond had closed the door behind him he was fast asleep.
The next time he woke his awareness returned much faster. This time it wasn't Elrond sitting by his side but Elrohir.
"Good morning brother."
"Good morning to you to Elrohir." He replied. He looked out the window and noticed that the sun was well on her way up into the sky. "How long was I asleep?"
"You slept trough the night and most of the morning. It's been three days since you dragged yourself home. What happened Estel?"
Before he could answer Elladan and his father came in.
"It's about time you woke up sleepyhead." Elladan said as he saw his little brother.
He said it in a teasing tone but Aragorn could see the worry underlining his statement.
"Estel was just about to tell us what happened." said Elrohir.
Aragorn sighed before he began to tell his story. When he was finished it was quiet for some time.
"I will send warriors out to hunt those orcs. They should not be this close to the valley." Elrond was the first to break the silence. "I will see to it immediately." He rose up from his seat and left the room quietly.
Aragorn looked at his brothers.
"We're glad you made it back brother." Elladan said quietly.
"Yes me too. I wasn't sure I was going to make it."
"But you did, let us not think about what could have been, you are here and that is what matters." Elrohir said.
Aragorn smiled at his brothers.
Two weeks later Aragorn was mostly healed. At least that is what he told himself. He still wasn't able to wield his sword, and from time to time he had a little dizzy spell, but that were just minor nuisances.
He was sitting in the gardens enjoying the sunshine on his face, when Elladan and Elrohir came running, laughing their heads of.
"You haven't seen us." They hissed to him as they passed him and jumped behind some bushes a few yards away from where he was sitting.
A few moments later a furious, soaking wet Glorfindel came towards him.
"You haven't seen the twins have you?" he asked.
He put on his most innocent smile. "No." he said while pointing towards the bushes the twins were hiding behind. "Haven't seen them."
With an evil smile upon his face Glorfindel advanced upon the twins. The twins jumped from their hiding place and made a break for it.
"Estel, you traitor!"
Yes, it was truly good to be home.
