Chapter 1: Growing up
Zecora smiled softly as she watched her adopted son work outside in his herb and flower garden. Oh how the years have flown...it only seemed like it was yesterday when he floated down to her from a basket.
A tiny light blue and green colt took his first steps as Zecora cheered happily before smiling as he made his way to her nearly tripping over his long mane.
The same colt just a lil older stuttering over words as the zebra taught him how to speak English and her native tongue.
Remedy running around the hut happily after completing a herbal potion Zecora had been teaching him.
Remedy happily learning Unicorn magic taught to him from the scrolls his mother had.
Him trotting after her eagerly as he went into Ponyville for the first time to start Foal-Garden as he was old enough.
Zecora shook her head sadly as she remembered what happened the following week that made her son hate the ponies and un-trusting toward any from Ponyville, no matter how much she tried to show him they could change. Remedy refused to go back to that town, pointing out they were the reason he had a scar over his left eye nearly blinding him. The zebra sighed remembering what had happened.
When she dropped off Sweet Remedy, the zebra smiled happily glad that someone was welcoming to them as the colt was welcomed by the teacher, Snowdrop, or at least she had thought so, not knowing what would happen when she would leave.
Over the week, Zecora began to become increasingly suspicious as Remedy would come home with bumps and bruises which seemed to get increasingly worse over the week. Though when she asked the teacher claimed the unicorn was simply clumsy, which made her more suspicious. Her son would have tears in his pretty green eyes and his head hung so low his horn nearly touched the ground. The zebra also noticed a decline in his grades though Zecora knew he son was smarter than most. Though Snowdrop claimed he simply wasn't doing the work.
So deciding to investigate, Zecora pretended to leave before hiding and watching her son as the kids had a small rescues before class. Remedy was shyly trying to talk to a purple filly while looking around nervously making Zecora wonder why he was being so cautious. That is until two much larger colts came over laughing and taunting him while throwing rocks at the smaller colt chasing Remedy through the school yard.
The zebra nearly jumped from the bushes then til Snowdrop came out of the building causing her to pause thinking the kind mare would put a stop to this, only to snarl softly as the white mare did nothing but watch laughing maliciously as a sharp rock hit her son in the eye and he started bleeding.
Zecora jumped out of the bushes then rushing over to her crying son, "Enough you cruel foals, A pox on your souls." The zebra rushed to her son soothing him as the other children ran in fear and Snowdrop stepped back nervously when the furious zebra turned on her swearing in her native language before switching to English "You! Cruelest of the cruel! Trusted with his health I did, yet you sit by nothing said as they hurt my sweetling!"
"May one day you know, what pain he feel too" With that she placed the crying foal on her back leaving for the Forest.
She tried to soothe her son later in their hut as he cried while the zebra cleaned his eye, luckily he would only have a scar.
"Never going back, Mama, never. I hate them! I just wanted to make friends and they hurt me for being different! Never going back they are evil ponies!" Remedy cried as the bandages were placed over his eye.
"Oh, Sweet Remy, they not think, what they do, not all ponies are that cruel, they act on fear, not hear too clear. They can change."
"Never will Mama," He sniffled into her neck as Zecora held her son close, "Won't ever go back into Ponyville."
The zebra sighed sadly again as she made a tea to soothe his aches when Remedy came back inside later after pulling away from the memory. If only she had seen what would happen, maybe he would have never been hurt.
Zecora smiled watching Remedy ten to a sick plant, at least some good came from this. Shortly after, her son gained his cutie mark while working in the garden tending to the flowers and herbs while also learning to brew herbal and floral teas to help and heal others. His cutie mark was a white lotus blossom with a silver tea cup sitting inside with blue sparkling rising from it like steam and on the cup was a green medical cross.
The zebra hoped one day he would get over his fear and hate and share his healing teas with the ponies of Ponyville; there fore starting to heal himself. Hopefully one day.
AN: Hope you liked it. Sorry for the shortness.
