I hurried down the hall as I wiped the tears from my cheek frustrated. Why did I always show such weakness in front of him? I shook the thought from my head as I stopped by Trunks's door. I opened it slowly so that it would not creak. He still seemed to be sleeping. At least while in his coma, he couldn't feel the terrible pain I knew that my father was suffering through. I walked in and stood beside the bed looking down at him. I pulled the blanket up to his cheek before reaching for the mug on the opposite side of the bed. The cup of tea I had bought him hours ago was ice cold and untouched, just as it always was.
I continued to walk down the hallway toward the stairs as a million thoughts flashed through my brain. Too much activity up there for this time in the morning really. I was rundown. I hadn't had a decent night sleep in weeks. I would wake up about every few hours and quickly hurry to Trunks's or my father's room to check on their condition. I am fearful that I will not be there if one of them passes. I slid down the stairway rail and hit the bottom with a thud. I cursed myself for making so much noise, but really I knew it did not matter. No one would complain, no one could.
My mind flicked again to my plan as I walked hurriedly to the phone on the wall. I began furiously pushing the buttons to reach some important people. It was very early in the morning, but I was too excited and anxious to wait. I explained to all of the staff that I required them to get up and meet me at the compound. I was cursed at and yelled at by many reluctant staff, but eventually I encouraged them to meet me.
I sprinted to the compound, the wet grass soaking the bottom of my pajarma pants and shards of grass stuck to the bottom too. I entered the dark and almost empty building as I shivered. I should have been more careful, a jacket or coat would have been a smart idea. I was rundown as it was, a cold could pop up at any time, and I had no time for it. I turned on the lights and the heating system before getting into action. I quickly prepared hot coffee for everyone and got out a fresh batch of cookies I had bought with me from the house. Within a few minutes the staff began to arrive. It was a sight to see them. I felt so guilty that I had dragged them out of bed, but it had to be done. Their hair was all messed up and their clothes had been quickly put on, so the buttons on the shirts didn't match their corresponding hole.
" Thank you for meeting me here at this ridiculous time. It is much appreciated," I began when everyone had finally arrived. I heard a few people moan and some near the front of the group were rolling their eyes. " I want you to know that this is very important, and that you will be paid three times normal wages for your time this morning," I continued guilty again. People began to chat loudly and people began to look serious, and some looked happy almost.
"I need all of you to prepare the time machine, for I am traveling to the past today. I want the time set for twenty-five years ago. I need this to be ready for nine in the morning today. I thank you for your time," I finished excitedly now I knew that this would in fact be happening. I was nervous however, because I knew that this machine had never been tested. My mother made it many years ago, and even now people among the staff laugh as they recount the story of my mother's dream to time travel.
" Miss Briefs, if I may, why do you wish to travel back to the past. Twenty-five years ago was a dangerous time. The world was going to end. The monster Cell was going to destroy us all, until Hercule saved us," a desperate employee yelled at me. I rolled my eyes at his comment of Hercule. The idiot still believed that he saved us all. Hercule was a kind man deep down, very, very deep down, but it still annoys me that he took the credit for what I am told Gohan did.
"Do not worry yourself with such details. This will happen, and I am strong, as all of you know. In fact I need to go to the time that Cell was alive, because well, I intend to bring him here," I told them all. Gasps and whispers filled the entire room as my staff became deeply worried. "Thank you, but I have to go prepare and spend time with my father," I smiled proudly as I saw the shock play over all the employees faces at my plan.
" Miss Briefs!" the employee from before yelled after me desperately as I turned and walked back to the house. I could hear frantic rambling amongst them as I left, but I knew that they would do as I had asked. My father was always around and he frightened the staff. They all obeyed my every whim, as they saw my father as a threat if I was disobeyed. They feared for their lives, except of course some of my dear friends among the staff. I found it rather amusing sometimes when he would walk in to see what I was doing. Some workers looked as if they will faint in fear at the mere sight of the Prince.
I walked into the house and walked up the stairs slowly and into Trunks room. He was sleeping peacefully as he was when I last saw him. I left his room quietly and walked down the hall to my father's room. He saw me instantly as I passed and I could hear him struggling to get up. I walked in quickly to settle him. He was furiously tossing about and shaking his head desperately. He did not want me to go. I pushed him back down into a lying position and pulled the crumpled blanket back over him.
" Father it is being prepared as we speak, I am going, and you certainly cannot stop me," I started at him roughly and persistant. "I will make you better, I promise. Just let me go, nothing will happen," I reassured him as I sat down beside him on the bed. " Besides, you can protect me in the other time, right," I half laughed at the realisation that I would see him as a younger man. "I love you, Daddy, I cannot lose you like Mom," I told him roughly. His body slowly relaxed and I got up to leave. " Don't worry," I whispered from the door, before turning and walking toward my own room.
I grabbed my empty backpack from the ground in the corner and began to throw things in. A spare change of clothes, a hairbrush and a few other bits and pieces. I sat up and looked around the room silently. Beside my bed was a picture of all of us. Dad and mum and Trunks were smiling at me as I looked at it. I saw myself as a child, weak and naïve. We were all so happy together then. How could this have happened? If only we could have stopped it all. I had to do this. I had to make him proud. I had to. I placed the photo in my bag and changed my clothes.
I placed on my own female armor that my mother had made me. It was a red chest plate, shaped as my shape was. Under this I wore black tight fitted singlet. My breasts showing at the top. I placed on my red mini skirt, made of the same tough material with a black sash around the hips. I placed on my black armored knee-high boots and finally my elbow long gloves that were fingerless they were red also. I placed my long blue hair into a single plait that ran down my back to my butt. I was done.
I opened my window as a cold breeze entered my bedroom. I jumped out and before hitting the ground I quickly pulled my body into the sky and shot off into the distance. I hadn't a lot of time as the sun was teasing the horizon with its slow entry into the sky. I was speeding toward Kami's lookout to collect some much needed sensu beans for my trip. If I was injured in battle, then sensu beans were my only hope.
With a loud noise I hit the tiled floor of Korin's tower. I was in a hurry and I had to wake him, so did as I had always done when I wanted attention. " Korin!" I yelled at the top of my lungs. A heard a loud gasp followed by soft foot prints on the tiles, before the large white cat came running toward me. He was angry and I had to hold in my laugh. His whiskers were all out of whack.
" What the hell was that, young lady!" He yelled at me furiously. Yajirobe came walking in slowly, rubbing his eyes and cursing.
"I need some sensu beans," I pleaded desperately, becoming more serious at the plan at hand. Korin looked at me strange and confused.
" Bra, you know very well that the sensu beans are useless against this disease, why did you even bother coming here," he asked concerned, yet still angry at being woken up.
" I know that, Korin, but I need them for a trip I'm taking," I began quickly. Korin's ears prickled up at the mention of a trip. " I am going back to past," I started. Korin's face fell. "I am going to bring Cell to our time. He will cure the sick ones. I need sensu beans in case I get hurt," I finally finished. Korin looked scared after I told him my plan. He seemed like he wouldn't give them to me in a hope that I would decide not to go. The sun was up now and I had to get back.
" You are going to bring back Cell?" Korin asked sadly. I nodded impatiently.
" What makes you think that he will come willing with you? He will kill you. Gohan had a hard enough time trying to kill him. He killed Goku. You cannot do this, he will kill you!" Korin yelled. I was growing impatient now. I glanced at Yajirobe. He wasn't even interested. How could this virus not have killed him yet?
" I must try, now please I'm running out of time. Vegeta is dying. Please give me what I ask for, I will leave without them if I must, but it would be more beneficial to leave with them," I told him matter of factly. Korin nodded in agreement unagreeably.
" I can see that I cannot stop you in this venture. I will give you the sensu beans, but be very careful," Korin told me as he went over to a cupboard and got the sensu beans for me.
"I will, Korin, I promise," I told him reassuringly as he placed the small bag in my hands. I tied the bag to my black sash and sprinted for the edge of the tower before diving off and shooting toward Capsule Corp again. I realised I still had some time before nine o'clock. I shot off in the opposite direction of home and went toward Goku's home.
I knocked on the door loudly as a small figure slowly made their way to the door. When the door opened I was shocked. Chichi was crying, but her body was too small, she hadn't eaten in days. " Chichi are you alright?" I asked her concerned. She shook her head silently and walked away back into the house. I was nervous and felt uneasy, but I followed her in. She walked into the kitchen and began preparing some food.
I walked away from her and toward the bedrooms. I heard Videl crying and walked further to see what was wrong. She sat beside the bed and held Gohan's hand tightly. Gohan looked up at me, but he didn't seem to acknowledge me. I walked out again and to the next bedroom. Goten was lying there, not moving at all. I stepped closer and felt for a pulse on his neck. His body was cold. He had died some time in the night was my guess. I kissed his forehead lovingly. I had spent a lot of time with him in my life. I was sad that he had died as well. It made me more determined to go the past.
I entered Goku's room carefully and quietly, but he was awake already. I sat on the bed beside him and took his hand into my own. " Kakkorot I will help you all, I promise, I have a plan," I began. He looked at me and smiled sadly.
" Bra," he said simply. I gasped and looked at him carefully.
" You can still speak," I said amazed. He nodded. I could tell that he would lose his speech within the next few hours. " I am going to the past. I will go back to when Cell was alive and I am going to bring him back here to our time," I began to tell him the plan. His gentle smile left his face suddenly as he looked at me concerned. " My father told me once, that he had all of your cells in him and that he could regenerate. If I bought him back, alive, a transfusion of his blood would heal you," I finished.
" No, Bra," He struggled. I nodded. " Do... not...do...this," he whispered. I nodded again. He looked very upset, but I held his hand tighter. I stood up, still holding his hand and kissed him on the forehead as I had done with Goten.
" I have to go, I'm leaving in an hour. I will bring Cell back I promise," I told him as I let his weak hand drop. I left the room and walked passed the bedrooms again. I could still hear Videl crying and Chichi stood silently over dead son's body. I walked into the room and stood beside Chichi. I took her hand and placed a sensu bean in her hand. " Take this Chichi, you need to stay healthy," I told her quietly. She suddenly broke out of her trance and looked at me. She smiled and began to cry. I left the house and shot off into the sky again.
I raced up the stairs in my own house and came to Trunks room. I sat on the bed beside him. He was awake and he looked at me sadly. " Trunks I'm going to the past. Please be here when I get back," I pleaded with him. I kissed him on the cheek before leaving the room. In the hallway, the clock chimed at 8:45am.
I ran down the hall to my father's room and sat beside him slightly out of breath. I took his hand in mine and squeezed it tightly. " I have to go now, it is time. I am sorry that I cannot be here with you, but I cannot let you die. I need you. I promise that I will not disappoint you, you will be proud of me," I whispered. I kissed him on the cheek and hugged his frail figure. I began to cry quietly as I stood up and looked down at him. He looked so weak and sad. I began to walk away until I heard him struggle. I told myself not to look back as I started to walk again.
" I...I.. am proud, Bra," he choked out and collapsed back on his back. I began to cry again as I ran out of the room and sped out of the house. I couldn't face him now. The tears were streaming down my face. I believe he spoke to try and keep me here, but I was determined to follow through on my plan. I ran toward the compound with my bag on my back.
" Cutting it fine, Miss Briefs," one of the staff laughed nervously. " This has never been tested, Bra," one of my friends of the staff told me nervously. I nodded.
" Is the time set?" I asked. I received nods from everyone. " Thank you everyone, please try to keep my family alive," I asked them concerned. They nodded." Be prepared with power shields on the whole capsule Corp grounds, I am bringing back a monster," they all nodded nervously and I could them whispering amongst themselves.
I got in the ship and buckled myself in. " Goodbye!" I shouted out. I was replied with " Good luck!" from everyone. I waved as the ship began to whir and shake violently. The room went black and different colours came flying at me. I screamed in fear and closed my eyes to the violent storm.
Suddenly everything stopped. I opened my eyes and I was looking at a great and vast dessert. Sandy and windy, without a sound. Bang!
