Her eyes going wide, Kagome gasped as she just looked at him odd. She was going to have to live there with him! "Must I move in? I am more than willing to get here every morning and stay all day with her and then go home and start it all over the next day. Every day."
With a glare and a slight growl at her, Sesshomaru was getting annoyed with her constantly trying to get out of it. But he was pleased when she stopped going on and dropped her head submissively. "You are going to move in here because I said so to be blunt about it. In one week you will start living here with myself, Rin, my brother and those that work here at the palace. Unless she is with me, every moment you have will be spent with Rin. With the one exception of school. She is not to leave your side otherwise. You are free to go anywhere you want within the city during the day with her and her guard Kenta."
Letting her body slump down, Kagome let out a small sigh. While she wanted to, she knew that she couldn't argue with him about this. It wouldn't get her anywhere but in trouble with him. But working for him by taking care of his adopted daughter would at least put her mother at ease knowing that she would be safe and not in danger. But she did have one problem. Other than not wanting to do this in the first place. Looking back up she took a deep breath. "My Lord."
Having never turned his eyes from her, Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes some. "What?"
Taking a nervous breath, Kagome started to wring her hands together. "What about school? My school is on the other side of the city and I can't be in two places at once."
Relaxed some, Sesshomaru let out a sigh. He was pleased to see that she did at least have a brain in her head. She wasn't trying to fight him on it anymore. And it wasn't like this was a joy to have her staying there full time for the next twelve years either. But he had to do this. He had too. And if he had to endure it, it wouldn't kill her.
But she did have a valid point with school. Though he would prefer to just home school Rin, which would take care of this also, Rin would have a fit on him. She loved going to school, and he wasn't going to transfer Rin out of her school either. Closing his eyes, Sesshomaru turned and looked back out the window again. "I am not going to make my daughter switch schools. You will simply just transfer to the high school part of Rin's school which will keep you closer to her during the day anyway."
Jerking her head up at him, Kagome looked at him like he was a ghost or something. Flashes of Eri and Sango flew through her mind. She didn't want to switch! But the look on his face was clear. She had no choice. But at least she could go where she wanted after school and on the weekends. Granted she was going to have a six year old in tow with her, but she could still see them. Though she did have a feeling that for Sango, that wasn't going to be enough. "When must I switch?"
Not looking at her at all, Sesshomaru kept his eyes looking out the window as he crossed his arms. "I will take care of your transfer papers. As I said you have seven days and then you will live here. That following Monday you will start school in the new one."
'Seven days! But that means that I won't get to see…." Her eyes still wide as she shook with fear, Kagome had to ask at least this. She had too! She had two more things that she needed to ask, and then she would just stop. As she took a breath she started to shake more. If she made him too mad he could kill her with just a flex of a finger! "My Lord I do have two requests for you."
Forcing himself not to growl at her, Sesshomaru let out an annoyed sigh. This female was full of too many questions. And that was going to get on his nerves. "What?"
Flinching as she kept her eyes down, Kagome didn't want to see it coming if he was going to kill her after thiss. "I know that they would make the longer commute to the new school. I would like for you to transfer one or two of my friends with me please. So I don't have to start a new school totally alone."
Turning to look at her and her down cast eyes, the way she shook and the slight smell of tears, Sesshomaru sighed. This was a sudden and drastic change for her and he forgets sometimes that humans are more emotional than a demon would. He would grant this request but for a single friend if it would help her to adjust easier. "One. I will transfer one friend with you. Jaken will be at your home in two days for the name and information on who it is going to be. Your other one?"
Nodding as she dared to look up into his amber eyes again, she knew she was pushing the limit with this one, but she had to ask. She wanted time to see him before he left again. "The other is about my father. You see he travels around Japan and sometimes the world for work. He only comes home for six to ten days out of every year. He will be here tomorrow evening. I was wondering if you could extend the time I had before I have to move in just a few more days. Please?"
Knowing that part of what he wanted hinged on her having a good relationship with her father, Sesshomaru sighed. If it wasn't for that he wouldn't give this to her. But he had an ultimate goal and he wasn't going to let anything or anyone stand in the way with it. "Ten days. I will give you three more days. On the tenth night, a car will pick you and your things up. Understood."
"Yes My Lord." When he turned his eyes away from her, she was able to see a perfect side profile of him. Though she had a glare for him instead of admiring him. He was messing up her entire life! His name meant killing perfection. And he was for sure a cold bastard. 'I hate him. I really do.'
Though before she could ask if there was anything else the door flew open. She watched as Rin, the girl from the picture flew into the room to stop at his side. She was an adorable little girl, and had a bright smile and big chocolate eyes. But it did shock her that she ran to him just like she used to run to her father at that age. Kagome knew that there was no way, knew without a doubt that he couldn't feel any warmth toward any humans. And was curious why he adopted her to start with if not for public image.
But it was when her eyes turned to him, that Kagome had to force herself not to react the way she wanted too. She was in total and utter shock! Sesshomaru's whole demeanor changed! He was now relaxed, with soft eyes as he listened to this little girl ramble on about her day. And he had a true smile on his face. She didn't think that he was capable of showing warmth and affection to anyone. Let alone a human little girl like that.
About to dismiss her and walk her out, Sesshomaru waited as he smelled Rin coming. As the door flew open he didn't even offer Kagome a passing glance as he turned a true smile on his daughter as she stopped next to his chair. "Rin. How was your day?"
Smiling, Rin went on and on about how great her day was as she looked up into her father's eyes. Every second of it, step by step from the second that she and Kenta got out of the car at school Not missing a beat, all the way down to finding a penny on heads as she left the school. And that was about when she noticed the girl sitting across from his desk. Right away she liked her. She just seemed different from the other female humans that would do business with her father. "Father who is she?" Rin then pulled on his shirt as she pointed to Kagome.
Keeping his eyes on Rin, Sesshomaru sighed. "Her name is Kagome Higurashi. In ten days time she will be living here to take care of you when I cannot."
With an excited giggle, Rin jumped and ran around the desk to stop right next to Kagome as she smiled a bright smile. "My name is Rin. I am happy to meet you. I hope we can be good friends. Do you want to be my friend?"
Smiling with a laugh, Kagome gave her a nod. This little girl was so cute and innocent she couldn't help it. "Hello Rin. It is nice to meet you. I am sure we are going to be great friends really fast."
Another sharp nod, Rin then gasped as she ran back to her father with an excited look. "I almost forgot to ask Father. Kenta told me that if I got my homework done before dinner, that he would train me some more after I was finished eating all the way until it is time for bed. But only if you say so. It is alright isn't it?
Taking a deep breath as he sighed, Sesshomaru put a hand on her head. "Yes that is fine with me." He then gave her a hug back as she squealed and threw her arms around his neck, then let his mask fall into place as she flew out the room letting the door slam shut behind her.
Turning back to Kagome with his mask back in place, Sesshomaru let another sigh out. "Excuse the interruption. If you have no more questions, then I will have my driver take you home."
Staring, Kagome was still in shock. He went from a block of ice, to being warm and sweet and now he was a block of ice again. But then what he said sank in, she shook her head before she bowed it down. "I do have one more question, though it is only about the rules of the house, than another request."
Fighting not to growl, Sesshomaru didn't hide the glare in his eyes. All these damn questions were really starting to wear on his last nerve. "The rules are simple. You may only have one friend over at a time whenever you like. They are to be out of my palace by sunset. You may take Rin anywhere in the city, but not out of it with her guard Kenta. However, she must be home before eight for bed. Anything else?"
Hearing the edge in his voice, Kagome wasn't about to chance it. She knew that she was already pushing it with all the questions and requests. It was clear that he was annoyed by her now and she really didn't want to die. "No My Lord there is nothing else."
Standing as he walked to the door, Sesshomaru closed his eyes with a sigh. "Come. I will walk you out." Stopping he opened the door and held it open for her then walked her down the hall toward the main entrance. Looking down at her sideways with an odd look, he couldn't help but ask her. "I had someone look into you when I picked you for the job. Is it true that you really have no clue that you are a miko?"
Rolling her eyes, Kagome let out a long sigh as she dropped her head and her shoulders slumped. "I am sure that I am not a miko. I have never even done anything that would hint at the possibility that I could be one. Though I am told daily by every demon or half demon that I come across tells me that I am one. I don't get it."
"Interesting." Sesshomaru then turned straight ahead. He knew more than just through scent that she was a miko. And soon she would learn it as well and start to train how to use it to protect Rin. Among other things that he wanted from her. But that would come in due time.
Once they exited his palace, he opened the door to the car and allowed her to sit down. "This car will be back to get you at your home in ten days time. At exactly 7PM to pick you up. Make sure you are ready."
Nodding, Kagome then slumped in the seat as soon as he closed the door and the car started to move. She couldn't believe that her life was going to be changing in such a drastic way at the age of fifteen! Looking up and out the window, she let out a sad sigh. 'I wonder what Mama is going to think about this. Sota isn't going to care one way or another. Grandpa is going to be furious. And then there is Papa. But who should I have transfer with me? I would love for both Eri and Sango to come, but Sango would probably be the best choice. Her family are descendants of demons slayers and they take care of the rouge demons for Sesshomaru after all.'
But there was one thing to look forward to that she could smile about. She could already picture the look on Mitsukai's face when she told her what was going to be going on. That she was going to be living in the palace with him, and trusted to take care of his daughter. 'If nothing else that makes this hell worth it.'
