Hiccup stared at her, beginning to panic. "You stopped death for me! There has to be something." He said as solemnly as he could manage.
Slowly, she shook her head. "Only we witches can cast the proper spells to rid a soul of a curse; I cannot cleanse myself, I am too weak."
"Then… another witch!" Hiccup grasped her hand still tighter. Mathalda was the only witch he'd ever heard of – witch craft was rare in the Barbaric Archipelago.
Again, she shook her head. "I have lived far longer than even your oldest tribe elder. I have done some shred of good in the world." She smiled at him. "And thanks to you, child, I am finally content." She closed her eyes.
He wouldn't have it. Why should she have to die for saving his life? She may have been content with her fate, but RazorFang wasn't, nor was Hiccup. He took a deep breath. Mathalda sensed his distress and gave a light coughing laugh. "You are truly as stubborn and opinionated as they come. A proper Viking. But Vikings also honor the wishes of the dying."
He shook his head. "No." he protested.
"Yes. You must promise me that you will not go looking for the witch. I do not want you getting hurt. She is, for all your power, dangerous. I know. I studied under her. She holds a grudging hate for mortals, no matter how kind you may be."
The Viking boy wanted to help. He wanted to go find the witch that could save Mathalda, no matter the risk. He wanted to say no. But, instead, he remained quiet.
"Go home," she said, quietly, sweetly. "RazorFang will bring you back to your island."
The boy turned and she caught his hand. "I'm glad that I got to see you again. You are a good child."
Hiccup bit his lip, but obeyed the witch, a fire burning in his chest.
The dragon was perched on a large rock outside of the house. Hiccup pet the beast before it allowed him to mount. There was an unnerving anxiety in him, the result of the Dragon's fears mixed with his own as they flew back to Berk. He imagined that RazorFang must have already known, but he still couldn't bring himself to tell the dragon that there was nothing he could do because, frankly, he didn't want to admit it himself.
He wasn't about to leave her there to die. In the space of time that she'd last left his village, Hiccup had talked to his grandfather about her, about the history she had with Berk and his parents. He'd learned some interesting things abut her.
She'd said that there was another witch, the one she'd studied under.
Her name was Morgana, he knew.
The young Viking leaned close to the Dragon's head. "She said something about a witch. A very dangerous, very powerful witch. Morgana le Fay. Do you know who she was talking about?"
RazorFang didn't respond. After a stretch of silence between the two, Hiccup felt silly for expecting to engage in a conversation with the beast. A sigh escaped his lips as he leaned back mere seconds before they veered to the side. He had to cling to the dragon's scales in order not to fall off, before they steadied in flight.
The boy wasn't entirely sure, but he thought that they'd suddenly changed direction; no longer were they headed for Berk, or even back toCannibalIsland. Now, it seemed, they were headed in an entirely new direction.
Short chapter is short. Can anyone guess where they're going? ._.
I'm sorry I don't update this often. Until HTTYD 2 comes out, or at the very least, the tv show that I've been waiting bloody AGES for, I probably will not be very keen to type this up. I have so. flipping. many. stories. running around in my head.
This is not one of them. But don't worry! Everything's there, I have the whole thing written! It's just a matter of typing it out! D:
