I drifted awake to hear sounds that seemed far away. They were quiet and subtle like a trickle of water dripping on the ground, but still the sounds caught my attention. Perhaps it wasn't the pitch of the sounds, maybe it was the strange way I heard them. Whatever the reason, I found myself drawn to the intriguing sounds.
I flickered open my tired eyes. At first everything was blurred a bit until slowly I could see correctly. From my uncomfortable laying position on the ground I looked around. What I saw, surprised me. I was in an unfamiliar wooded area. There were tall trees looming above me and flourishing undergrowth beside me. Morning light was filtering through the trees and dancing delicately across the ground. All seemed normal, except I didn't know where I was or how I got there. What happened? And where am I? I thought, not remembering the events that had taken place a while ago.
Finding no answers to my questions, I turned my focus back to the odd sounds I had heard earlier. When I focussed on the sounds I realized I could understand them. To me it was the strangest thing ever, and I had experienced some pretty strange things. I heard the sounds and it was speaking that I could understand what it was saying. But it wasn't exactly words. It was like I heard sounds in that weird way but I some how knew what they meant.
I searched for the source of the odd talking, trying to figure out what was going on. I spotted some very strange creatures from where the sound was coming from, they looked a tiny bit like animals, but I had never seen a species like them. They were large with strange colors and were surprisingly bright. One of these creatures looked like a big bird. It had white and brown feathers, along with red and orange tail feathers. To top it all off, this odd creature has some type of red thing on top of its head. It had a beak like a bird should though and I felt like I may be mixing things up from some injury. The other creature looked like a enormous caterpillar that was a medium and very bright green color. On it were strange markings, but still I thought that I must be imagining it.
I shut my eyes tightly, many thoughts whirling through my confused mind. I opened my eyes again to see that the strange creatures were the same as before. What is going on? They can't be animals. They are too different. I thought with a slightly annoyed sigh. But what are they? I thought in utter bewilderment. After a while I pulled myself from my thoughts so I could attempt to figure out what was going on. The talking off the odd animal-like creatures flickered past me and I found myself listening in on the conversation.
"Where did that Riolu come from?" the bird-like-creature asked in its chirping voice.
"I don't know. There was a flash and there it was. At least that's what I've heard," replied the caterpillar-like-creature in its own weird way.
I heard these things clearly- more clearly than normal even, but I couldn't comprehend what they were discussing. I felt like I should remember, but I just couldn't. I stared at them, dumbfounded, my eyes blank and not really taking anything in.
"It has been here a while now," the bird-like-thing continued, tucking in its wings more tightly to its side.
"Yes, several days. Without waking up too," the caterpillar-like-creature added. Its gaze travelled slowly over to look at me, where I was laying on the ground. Its eyes widened in shock when it registered that I was awake. "Its awake! The Riolu is awake!" the caterpillar-like-thing exclaimed.
"Really?" said the bird-like-creature, voice thick with disbelief. Its head swivelled over to me and its intense gaze searched me. Then it spoke to me. It sounded even stranger when directed at me and I had to fight the urge to run the other way and never come back. "Who are you? What happened? Where do you come from? And why are you here?" the bird-like-creature pelted me with lots of questions.
The questions seemed to echo through my already full mind. I only knew two of the answers. "I am Amaya. I come from a planet known as earth. I do not know how or why I am here. But where am I?" I said as confidently as I could. My voice came out in a similar way that the other animal-like-creature's voices did and I didn't like it one bit. And even though I attempted to keep my voice calm, it wavered and cracked.
The two animal-like-creatures studied me for a few moments in complete silence. Finally, the bird-like-one responded. "Amaya? That is a strange name for a Riolu," it commented. "Anyway, Amaya, we don't know of this place you speak of, but we are in the world of Pokemon," it explained calmly.
Pokemon? The word hit me like a blow to the head. Suddenly all memories from a few days ago came rushing back to me. I remembered my peaceful walk in the forest and how it went horribly wrong. I remembered me pushing the very odd button the flash of light, Slowly everything pieced together. I was transported to the Pokemon world? Pokemon are real? I'm next to living Pokemon? I thought disbelievingly.
With an impulsive urge, I looked down at myself with wide eyes. A large gasp escaped my mouth when I realized what I was seeing.. I was blue and black. Not only that, I was a Pokemon. I was a Riolu. I spent the next few minutes staring at my unusual blue and black body with awe and horror. My thoughts began to travel back to what I knew about Pokemon, which was quite a bit considering my brother watched it all the time. I thought Pokemon was just a T.V. show and video game that my brother watched and played! I guess not! But how did I get here? I shook my head quickly. Maybe I'm dreaming. Maybe I'll wake up and all this will be over. I thought, grasping at the little bit of hope.
The two Pokemon, Pigeoto and Caterpie, stared intently at me with their different eyes, waiting for me to respond. I looked back at them, gaze firm. "I do not know what is going on, but I plan to find out," I told them, determination surging through me.
I twitched my ears and waved my tail, amazed and trying to figure this out. Next, I rose to my aching feet with a grunt. I wobbled and barely stayed standing because I wasn't use to this unfamiliar body. I moved my large hand back and forth through the warm air, amazed at how weird it felt. I stood there for a moment, the shock of me being a Riolu. finally sinking in fully. My mind began to wander to other things. No. Stop it. You need to figure this out so you can become normal again. I mentally scolded myself. Ignoring my surroundings, I took a hesitant step. My whole legs shook violently and the next thing I knew, I was 'thumping' to the slightly muddy ground. I coughed as dirt and other shavings flew into my mouth.
The two Pokemon watched me, obvious amusement glittering in their gazes. They made no attempt to help me, or even to move, this angered me greatly and fuelled my urge to get up. I laid helplessly on the ground for a while, heart leaping in my chest and breath coming in quick shallow gasps. My muscles ached in protest to do anything.
After I had stayed there for what seemed like hours but was really only minutes, I slowly sat up. "What are you staring at?" I snapped at the Pidgeoto and Caterpie, voice week and hoarse but also unyielding and confident.
The Pokemon looked taken aback. They watched me with new found interest. "She's got some sass in her," the Pidgeoto whispered loudly to the Caterpie. The Caterpie did what I thought was to nod its head, but it was hard to tell.
"Yes I do. And if you have a problem with it, then deal with it!" I growled, not knowing where this confidence was coming from.
The Pokemon stood side by side and glared at me for a while. Then the Pidgeoto emitted a small "humph" and turned around. The Pidgeoto stalked off in annoyance with ruffled feathers. The Caterpie followed with as much dignity as it could muster, which was not much considering it was basically a giant caterpillar.
After the Pidgeoto retreated behind the bushes with the Caterpie wriggling its way after it, I took a deep, slow breath and glanced around. I didn't notice any more Pokemon so I let out a relieved sigh and I relaxed ever-so-slightly. I sat there for a while, my bright blue and black body covered in mud and other debris. Finally, I worked up enough courage to attempt to stand again.
I grabbed at a thin but sturdy tree trunk and began to make my way up. I was eventually up enough to reach out with the arm I wasn't use to and grip onto a low-hanging branch. I stood myself up straight and almost instantly felt my legs shake rebelliously. I clung frantically to the rough-barked tree, not wanting to collapse again. Minutes later, I managed to steady myself and stay standing on my tired feet. I took an attentive step while still clasping my hands around the tall tree. I stumbled a bit but I quickly regained my balance. I cautiously let go of the dependable tree that had held me up. I stood a bit before taking a few hesitant steps, being prudent by avoiding roots and other obstacles.
After a while, I had adapted to new walking techniques and I was striding along steadily, my destination unknown but my goal clear in my mind. I would see the occasional Pokemon such as a wandering Butterfree or a travelling Bulbasaur, but they minded their own business and didn't bother me. I finally had the chance to sort things out and organize my thoughts. This is so weird! It is the strangest thing that has ever happened to me! I need to decide to do...And soon. I thought anxiously, tensing up with a sense of foreboding.
I walked along through the forest, pre-occupied with many horrible thoughts of possible endings to this situation. I didn't notice the undergrowth thinning out, nor did I realize my surroundings becoming rockier and sandier. Then, suddenly it felt like the earth fell away beneath my oddly shaped feet. I found myself plummeting down off a large cliff. Into the endless abyss. The vast unknown. Down I fell. My limbs flailed in terror and my red eyes watered as air rushed into them. Again, I thought all hope was lost, that it was no use to try any more. Through my haze of great dread and blurred eyes I saw something orange streak towards me. Then, I firmly shut my eyes, wishing that this would be over soon.
Thanks for reading! Cliff hanger, right? Literately! ;D
