"Yea, cool I'll come over and pick you up at six," he says. "Sounds good, I'll see you then," I reply.

I walk back to my house with the biggest smile on my face, I get to hang out with my childhood best friend again. I am thinking that this night will probably be pretty casual. Probably a simple dinner and maybe some talking. I'm not sure. We haven't hung out since the middle school, so I really don't know what his ideas for hanging out are.

I get into the house and my mom calls from the living room couch, "Katniss is that you?" "Uh, yea mom what's up," I ask. "Have you seen your sister," she asks. "No I have not. I think that Prim is at a friend's house," I reply. "Are you going anywhere tonight sweetheart," asks my mom. "Uh, yea I'm going out with a friend," I smile. I then take leave to my room and am thankful that she didn't ask any further questions.

Two hours later I see Peeta walk across the street. I meet him at the door before he can knock, like he did earlier. "Hey," I say. "Hey," he replies. We walk back across the street to his car. "So where are we going," I ask. "It's a surprise," replies Peeta with a laugh. We talk as we drive down the road. We talk about the girls' and boys' soccer teams and Peeta asks how the girls team is doing. I didn't mention before, but I am a member of the girls' soccer team. Even after knowing each other so long and growing up together we were together at soccer practice throughout middle school and high school, but Peeta started to hang out with other people and started to date. I wasn't really friends with his friends and we eventually drifted apart. "I want to apologize for one day being your friend then the next not really talking to you the next," says Peeta. I look at him and he actually looks sorry, "It's alright. I know that you made new friends, and I did too." Peeta nods and says, "Here we are." I didn't even realize that we had pulled into a parking spot.

I look at the building and it reads, 'Pipers Party Palace' in neon lights. "I haven't been here since we were kids," I say. "Me either," smiles Peeta. We walk into the gaming restaurant and it's like we are kids again. Everything is the same as ten years ago, everything except that this time we aren't tugging our moms hand to get pizza and game tokens. We walk calmly to the pizza station and Peeta orders a large pepperoni pizza, which is both of our favorites and a pitcher of Dr. Pepper. Next, we move on to the game tokens. Peeta looks at me then puts money into the token machine, he presses a button and probably a hundred tokens come out of the machine. We take our bucket of tokens, and we go claim a booth. "Where to first," asks Peeta. I think for a moment, but I don't really have to think, since we always would start at ski ball. Ski ball is one of our favorite games. We used to challenge each other and see who could get the most tickets. "Ski ball," I announce. He smiles and says, "I knew that's what you were going to say." We walk together over to the six lanes of ski ball. "Same time or separate," asks Peeta. "Same time," I say getting super excited.

We continue to play games and earn tickets. The best thing about hanging out with Peeta is that we could just hang out like normal without it being weird. I didn't know how tonight was going to go, but I am really glad that I came. We return to our table with our tickets and take a break to refuel with pizza and soda. We can talk and catch up as if we hadn't not talked in six years. Near the end of our bucket of coins Peeta looks at me and says, "Do you want to come to a party with me? There is a party Friday and I was wondering if you wanted to come with me." I think for a moment then I say, "Sure why not." Parties aren't my favorite, but if I am going to go with Peeta then he will probably introduce me to people and I won't feel so awkward like I do when I go to parties with Johanna. "Cool," replies Peeta with a smile.

We finish out the tokens and Peeta says, "How many do you think we have?" We walk over to the prize booth and I look at the handful that Peeta has and I look at my own bundle and say, "I don't know," I reply. We go to the ticket counter and start to feed our tickets through the machine. I watch as the number continues to rise. 50, 100, 250, 400, 1000. It continues to eat tickets and the numbers seem to continue forever. I don't believe I've ever seen this many tickets honestly. Then the tickets are gone and the number displayed on the screen is 4000. Four thousand tickets. That is crazy. Peeta presses the print button and a small receipt prints out with 4000 printed across it. We then walk the small ways to the prize booth and hand the lady our receipt like we did when we were kids. She smiles at us and I notice that just like when we were kids the small trinkets are in the glass case down in front and the bigger items are on the wall. The big whale I have admired since I was a kid sits near the top of the display with a plastic number sitting in front. The number 4000. As a kid that number seemed to be impossible to obtain, but now it's right there on the receipt. I look at Peeta and he says to the lady, "We will take the whale." I open my mouth and Peeta says, "No Kat, you have wanted that whale ever since we were kids." The lady hands the whale to Peeta and he gives it to me. I take it willingly and hug it. We thank the lady and like when we were kids Peeta takes my hand and we walk out of the building. We walk hand in hand to his car and he opens my door like he was taught as a boy.

We travel down the road and to the dock. He parks and climbs out of the car and grabs a blanket out of the back. "Well come on," he says to me as he is holding out his hand. I take his hand and we walk out onto the beach. He lets go of my hand and lays out the blanket on the white sand. He sits and pats the blanket next to him. I sit and lay back on the fleece. We lay on the blanket looking at the stars and listening to the roar of the ocean together. "I am really glad that you drove me home last night. I have always regretted not keeping in touch with you. I know that I said it before, but I am sorry," says Peeta. "It's alright. I understand. You had your friends and I had mine, but I am glad that we have been able to reconnect," I answer. We continue to talk until it is time to go back home.

Sooner than later we are sitting in front of my house and Peeta looks at me, "Thank you for a great night, I had a wonderful time. "I lean over to him and I kiss him on the cheek. "I'll see you tomorrow, goodnight," I say as I take my whale and I get out of the car. I can feel Peeta's eyes on me as I walk to my front door and close it behind me. I look out the window and watch him turn into his driveway. Mom had already gone to bed so I make my way to my room upstairs. I am glad that the only people that live upstairs are Prim, and I. Mom's bedroom is on the first floor. If my mom heard me come in she would be questioning me and asking where I had been.

Believe it or not, but I had a great time with Peeta tonight. We were able to pick up where we left off. It's like we had never started high school and we were still in the sixth grade. He was so nice and he asked me to come to a party with him. I'm not sure what that actually means, but I am actually excited to go and hang out with him again. It's still a week before Friday, but I am excited about the party. Sunday is uneventful and I hope that Monday at school isn't too bad. With me taking Peeta home from the party, people make up stories and I just don't want to have to deal with that.

Monday morning, I drive to school and park in my normal spot in between Johanna and Annie. Before I can even shut my car off Joanna is opening my door demanding that I tell her what happened. "What do you mean," I ask. I didn't tell anyone that Peeta and I had gone out together. "Is Peeta going to take you to the party on Friday," asks Johanna. "Why would Peeta take me to the party," I ask trying to act dumb. "I feel like there is something that you aren't telling us," says Annie walking up to the door of my car. "Peeta and I are attempting to be friends again, that's it," I announce to Annie and Johanna. Johanna rolls her eyes and says, "Sure you are." I don't say anymore as we walk into the school together and down the main hall. We walk as a group of three headed towards the science hall and I can hear, "Hey Katniss," coming from behind me.

I turn to see Peeta walking towards me. I had texted Peeta after talking to Johanna and Annie this morning, that he needed to come and ask me to go to the party with him. I get to my locker and Annie and Johanna are viewing our conversation like we are an exhibit at the zoo. "Hey so Katniss, I was wondering if you wanted to come to the party on Friday with me. It's going to be a lot of fun, and I promise that you won't have to drive me home," says Peeta with a smile. "I would love to. That sounds great," I reply. "Cool, awesome. Well I'll see you around then," he says now nervous with Annie and Johanna staring at him begging him to say something else. He looks at me, I smile and he walks off. "Peeta Mellark just asked you to the party," Johanna nearly shouts into my ear. "Yes, I realize Johanna, thank you for making me deaf in that ear," I say sarcastically. Johanna frowns and I walk off without them to my first class. As I sit in my desk I think about Peeta and the party that he has asked me to come to, did he really want to ask me or did he ask me simply because he felt that he owed me from the last party. After the other night at Piper's I have felt like he maybe wants to be around me more, but I don't know. We just started talking to each other again so I guess we will see where this goes.
