Chapter 2: New Places

I own nothing but my OCs.

Next chapter will be chapter 30. Enjoy the better Chapter Two

Republic City, The Park- Day

I stared at the toads.

The toads stared at me still covered in what should have been my breakfast. I slowly stretched my arm towards the amphibians to make sure those things were real. At my movement one of the toads hopped into my hand.

It was lighter than I had thought. Which is saying something since they ate all my plums and they both looked like they would cover up my entire hand. The dark green amphibious abomination proceeded to hop up my arm reaching my shoulder in seconds.

After a second of staring at it, I threw the breakfast eating bastard into the tree I slept under. Within seconds the toad was back in front of me next to it's light yellow sibling.

They then proceeded to attack me. Their tongues striking in unison at my eyes.

As I slowly pulled myself up out of the grass groaning I noticed the two imps had taken residence in my satchel. When I was finally on my feet, I contemplated what I would do next. I could step on the little bastards crushing them instantly.

But then my bag would be ruined! And it goes really well with my shirt!

As I brought my attention back to the amphibian-mammals I noticed that they were staring at me too.

I stared at the toads.

The toads stared back. And croaked.

I blinked,"Well that solves that, welcome to the team guys!"

I pulled the satchel onto my shoulder and wandered off to try and find Fei Yen's Stall. As I walked off I ignored the many stares of the park goers. What was there problem? Nothing weird about a young man getting beaten up by Toads.

Bunch of weirdos.

Republic City, Market Place- Day

I staggered in front of the stall in front of me, Fei Yen's glare cutting through me like steel.

"Okay, I can explain. I got lost, also I got assaulted by my new Toad rodent things. I think they're pretty cool, but I am so sor-"

She shoved an apron in my face hissing,"Shush, get to work. I'm paying you to sell plums not talk."

Wow. Rude.

I looked at her for a second then ran to stand beside her in the stall and proceeded to do what I was getting paid for.

Republic City, Market Place- A week later

So I sold plums.

As I sold the fruit to anyone who would stop my thoughts turned to why Fei Yen let me work for her. All week she made it fairly clear I was one of the worst sellers she had hired. Also I'm pretty sure she realized I was stealing plums. When she told me I could leave yesterday I pretty much squeaked and ran off clutching my satchel to my chest.

Yet she kept saying to come back.

Yesterday the small talk between us was basically spitting out a bunch of lies. I had made it pretty obvious how out of my element I was. I can't just explain that I'm from another dimension. I'd end up in a loony bin!

Does Republic City have Mental Institutions? Getting sidetracked back to my original train of thought.

I had lied and said that I had lost my memories, but I was pretty sure that I was from the Water Tribe. Whichever Tribe she wanted to believe I was from. She just kinda accepted it.

What I learned from the brown eyed old woman was that she had lived in Republic City since Aang had died sixteen years ago. She had moved here with her grandson, who either ran off to join one of the Triads. She didn't remember which one, only that he was dead to her.

Republic City, Market Place- Evening

As the sun started to dip lower and the sky started to turn orange Fei Yen started to pack up and pry into my living situation. "Where are you sleeping?" she asked not even looking from the box of plums she had packed up.

I flinched looking in any direction but hers muttering,"You know... places."

Once her glare started to slowly kill my soul I finally broke,"The park okay?!"

She stopped and stood there for a minute her eyes closed mulling over my response. For a couple seconds I honestly thought she had fallen asleep. I had taken a couple steps closer to her to try and figure out if she was still conscious.

As my hand reached out to her, she grabbed me and flipped me over her back. Slamming into the floor on my back I wheezed out,"Whyyyyyy?"

She stood over me and smirked,"You can stay at my apartment until you figure out what you want to do."

I groaned as I pulled myself onto knees,"Not worried I'll murder you?"

She grinned,"I'm a firebender boy. I'd roast you and your frogs."

"Toads actually."

"Either way they'd be delicious."

Even in other dimension I can't escape crazy.

Republic City, Fei Yen's Apartment- Evening

Fei Yen's Apartment was a surprisingly spacious three room apartment. The apartment was covered in rugs, tapestries and art from the fire nation. Looking at it I was starting to feel a bit threatened, and I wasn't even a waterbender.

Actually I don't know if I can bend. I hope if I can it's fire. I like the idea of burning all the things.

"You can afford to live in this place by selling plums?" I stood looking around in shock.

She snorted pushing past me,"My grandson bought the apartment and most of the decorations as a way to make up for being a massive disappointment. Just pick one of the empty rooms."

I took a moment and chose the one closest to the front door. Just in case it turns out she was a serial killer and picked up young homeless men. It was a fairly simple room, a bed, a dresser, and a blood red and gold rug on the floor.

I sighed collapsing on the bed. I didn't think I'd miss sheets and pillows so quickly. It'd only been a day but it felt like a week. Now I just needed to have a shower!

But one thing first. I opened my satchel and shook the toads out. They bounced and quickly made residence on one of the pillows on the bed. I sighed and looked at the toads, "First of all names!"

The toad squirrels perked up immediately. "The green one I will call Vice." Vice gave what was the closest a toad could make to a smile and hopped away with a spring in it's step. The yellow one turned expectantly at me,"You shall be called...Bob!"

The look of horror on his face made it worth it. The tongue that struck my eye made me regret it immediately.

Even more so when Fei Yen came in breathing fire.

Literally breathing fire.

Republic City, Fei Yen's Apartment- Night

As I stared out at the night sky and the Moon/Yue I realized that for once in this whole week I was warm, and also not full from plums. I also had a time frame.

Korra was sixteen right now. That gives me a year of planning to stay out of her way. I want nothing to do with her or her adventures. My life is complicated enough without Equalists or Dark Spirits. If anything I'd meet Mako and Bolin, mostly because I wanna see a pro-bending match. I'll keep it at that.

If only I hadn't been run over by Asami the next day.
