And now, the Nightowl publishing company presents: CHAPTER TWO! *thunderous cheers and applause* Thank you, thank you! I'm glad to be getting this out on schedule, since I'm usually such a procrastinator. But you don't really care about my problems, you want to read the story! So here it is, right after these words from our sponser (a.k.a: the disclaimer)
DISCLAIMER: I own NOTHING! Well, I own this computer, and my house... okay, I own almost nothing. And of the things I do own, Yu-Gi-Oh is, sadly, not one of them.
The others looked at each other, a little confused. "This is your house?" Mai asked, eyebrows raised.
"No, this is a chicken coop, my mansion is a little ways up the hill," the voice replied, dripping with sarcasm.
"Um, are you the one who kidnapped us?" Ryou asked, cowering behind Bakura lest the person get angry and attack.
"Yes," the voice replied. "I need your help with something."
Yami stepped up, relaxing a little now that the person didn't seem to want to hurt them. "Alright, but who are you?"
"My name is Nightowl. You may call me Night." There was a slight movement, and she stepped out of the shadows.
Everyone's jaws immediately dropped. They had expected their kidnapper to be tall, strong, and imposing. Instead they were looking at an unremarkable, 5' 2" teenage girl. With chin-length blonde curls, green eyes, and a T-shirt and jeans she looked completely normal, and certainly not like someone who would kidnap them all.
Kaiba scoffed. "You've got to be kidding me. There's no way this little girl is capable of kidnapping us. I mean really, what are you, twelve?" He sneered.
Okay, now that wasn't called for. Night had heard that Kaiba was a complete jerk-face, rumors she hadn't really put much stock in until now. Her face immediately darkened, and she marched up to him, a Death Glare of Doom! ™ gracing her features. She jabbed a finger into his chest.
"For your information, I'm fourteen! And as for what I'm capable of, I got into your mansion, knocked out you and your brother, and got both of your unconscious butts out of there without tripping the alarms or alerting the guards. I'm capable of more than you could ever dream of." With one last glare she stalked away, leaving Kaiba uncharacteristically intimidated.
Night disappeared into the shadows, and a few seconds later the rest of the lights came on, illuminating what looked a regular house. She came back over and, with one last glare at Kaiba, addressed them.
"I haven't been entirely fair to you guys. I know the fact that I kidnapped you isn't going to make you like me very much, but I need your help, and I knew you guys wouldn't want to help some random stranger that showed up at your doorstep." She looked at them, as if daring them to deny it. They couldn't.
"Alright, what do you need help with?" Marik asked, slightly curious.
Night smiled. "I've been taking a creative writing course over the summer, and one of the assignments is that I have to write a story about whatever I want. It's due in exactly one month. I decided I wanted to write it about you guys."
They exchanged glances, not sure if they should be honored or creeped out.
"I thought it would be cool to write a story about what would happen if you guys were all stuck living at my house. However, I wanted it to be accurate, so I decided to bring you all here and try it. I need you guys to stay here for the month before it's due so that I can write down everything that happens and turn it into my story."
All of the Yu-gi-oh characters were stunned, unable to believe what they were hearing. "You mean you kidnapped us, and expect us to stay in this house together for a whole month just so you can write a STORY?" Bakura yelled angrily, steam almost rising from his ears.
Night looked at him, unperturbed. "That about sums it up."
"Nu-uh. No way!" Joey proclaimed, shaking his head. "There is no way I am spending a month locked in here with those freaks-" He pointed wildly at Marik and Bakura, "and especially not with Kaiba! It's not happening!"
"I'm afraid you have no choice," Night said nonchalantly, examining her fingernails.
"And why is that?" Mai asked, also disturbed at the idea of spending a month with some of the less stable people in the group, including Night herself.
Night narrowed her eyes. "Because what you guys don't seem to understand is that I'm the authoress. I control every single thing about this world. I know everything that happens or is happening, and I can change anything to whatever I want, whenever I want. I'm in charge here, and my word is law. That's why."
She crossed her arms, glowering at them, and even Bakura was a little intimidated. Marik, on the other hand, was already trying to figure out how to get some of that power for himself. "So, how exactly do you know everything that's going on?"
Night suddenly brightened, a big grin crossing her face. "With this!"
She skipped over to a cabinet and began rummaging through; it was as though her little speech hadn't even happened. The others weren't sure if she was having these mood swings on purpose, or if she was just a total nut-bar. They looked over, only to see her half buried in the cabinet, throwing things over willy-nilly over her shoulders and humming the Yu-gi-oh theme song.
Yup, she was officially a nut-bar.
"Found it! OW!" She let out a cry of pain as she banged her head on the cabinet door, but managed to make her way back over to them without further injury. In her hand she held a rather dusty book.
"What's that?" Mokuba asked. "It looks like a regular old book."
"It's not." Night grinned proudly. "It's my Magic Book. This book is how I control everything. All the stuff that happens in this world gets magically recorded in here."
She opened it to the most recent page, where everything that was being said and done by them was appearing by itself.
"By reading this book, I can tell who's doing what at any given time, which is why you won't be able to leave without me knowing and stopping you." She looked thoughtful for a second. "That, and all the security systems I just installed."
She gestured to a sophisticated-looking panel next to the front door. "However, this book doesn't just record things. Just as everything that happens out here goes into the book, everything that is written in the book happens out here. So, whenever I want to change anything, I just write it in the book and Viola! It happens."
Seeing Marik greedily eyeing the Magic Book, she quickly added, "And don't even bother trying to steal it from me. It only opens for the authoress."
"That's incredible!" Yami breathed, impressed. This was a type of magic that he had never seen before.
"I don't believe it." Joey crossed his arms, skepticism written all over his face.
Night crossed her arms too. "Fine. I'll prove it. Go open the door." She jerked her head towards the front door.
Joey raised an eyebrow. "Excuse me?"
"Go. Open. The door."
"Fine." Joey walked confidently over to the front door, reaching for the handle. When his hand was just a few centimeters away, it passed through an invisible barrier with a faint 'zzzap.' Immediately a shrill alarm started blaring and a red light began flashing. As everyone covered their ears, Night merely smiled.
Grabbing a pencil from behind her ear, she jotted down a few quick words then turned to look over at Joey, who was still standing by the door. The alarms turned off, and a giant tube popped into existence in the ceiling above him, much to the amazement of everyone else. It immediately sucked Joey up like a gigantic vacuum.
"AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!" His screams got fainter as he was sucked out of view, soon growing in strength as the tube sucked him back towards them. A panel in the ceiling slid open and Joey fell out of it, landing right at Night's feet.
"Was that proof enough for you, or do I have to create another chute?"
Joey got shakily to his feet. "No, no. I'm fine."
"Good." Night smiled sweetly at him before turning to all of the others. "Alright-y then, now that that's out of the way, we can continue. Since we're all going to be here together for the next month, I'm going to lay down the ground rules."
"Screw the rules, I have money! (1)" Kaiba suddenly yelled loudly. He blinked, then looked around, slightly confused.
"Why do I get the feeling that I just made a Little Kuriboh reference simply so that the authoress could have the satisfaction of putting it in her story?"
Night quickly grabbed a throw pillow off the couch and shoved it into his mouth before he could say anything else.
"No reason! No reason at all!" She said, looking slightly sheepish. "Now pay attention! These are the rules. Rule Number One: Bakura and Marik are not allowed anywhere near anything sharp, pointy, or even remotely lethal."
Bakura and Marik pouted while everyone else breathed a sigh of relief.
"Rule Number Two: No trying to escape. Rule Number Three: No sending anything to the shadow realm but the stuff in my brother's room, and only if you're willing to take the blame." Here she looked pointedly at the three yamis, all of whom were grumbling under their breaths.
"Rule Number Four: Do NOT let anyone, besides me, see you. And Rule Number Five:" She looked up at them, a serious expression on her face.
"If any of you sets even one foot in my parent's bedroom, I will personally kill you, cremate you, feed your ashes to a hippopotamus, and then bring you back to life and torture you for the rest of your existence. Do you understand?" She locked her gaze onto everyone in the room, making sure they all nodded. She grinned.
"Okay, only one more thing. You guys are my guests, so I want you to have fun while you're here. We've got TVs, computers, a Wii, an X-Box, a pool in the backyard, a ton of books, and a game room on the third floor. So go nuts and try not to break anything!"
Yugi and Yami high fived at the words 'game room,' Mokuba looked excited about the video game consoles, and Kaiba was mildly interested to hear that there were books. Everyone else simply looked tired.
Night noticed this. "I know it's been a long and confusing day for everyone, so I suggest that we all turn in for the night, and sleep off the chloroform. The bedrooms are upstairs. I posted signs on all of the doors to let you know who will be sleeping where. See you all in the morning."
There was the usual chaos as every fought for their bathroom time, then they all separated to their rooms and went to sleep.
