The Familiar
Jasmine had appearated to a forest that Albus had once taken her to for a day trip. She had chosen not to live in a city because she didn't look old enough and she would not be able to train and figure out her abilities. The past caught up to her, she collapsed onto the ground in a heap, the tears now freely streaming down her face. The trees swayed calmly, birds chirped happily in the trees, it seemed like Jasmine was the only unhappy thing in this forest. She had landed in a meadow. Birds hopped in trees, trying to get a better look at this intruder that had just disturbed their work. Bees buzzed around red and blue coloured flowers. A few shrubs grew in bunches around the place. A creek ran through the middle, making a trickling sound. Plenty of trees grew around the edge. Overall, it was a beautiful place.
The small bag had fallen off her shoulder; she picked it up and looked inside. She had packed her mother's wand, a small tent, the spell books that Dumbledore had given her, some spare clothes and the letter from her mother. She walked further into the meadow; soon she came to a clearing. The stream was overflowing with fish and crabs, it seemed like nobody had been here in years. "Accio tent," This simple spell bought the tent barrelling towards her. She picked up the dully coloured canvas, grimacing at its grey colour. She flicked her wand and within a second, the tent stood proudly in the middle, despite its grey, non-exiting canvas.
Jasmine poked her head through the entrance and glanced around the room, taking in all of the different aspects of this tent. Two bookcases were leaning against the left side, taking up half of the left side. A bunk was situated next to the bookcases. She looked to her right, a table and two chairs were pushed carelessly against the wall. A reading seat was in the far right corner and a small wardrobe was next to it. Daggers and knives rested on a brown table. Up ahead, steps lead to a small balcony. It wasn't really a balcony, more like one meter of wood and steps leading out of the tent towards the stream. In a bucket, swords and spears rested around the rim, spare arrows nested inside the rim. A built in fire pit was on the far left of the balcony.
She sighed, according to her watch, it was 4 o` clock, she would have to go hungry tonight and catch some fish in the morning as she didn't know how to use a spear or make a fish trap. But now it was some time for research. She wandered over to the bookcases and began browsing through them. They were all written in ancient Greek, which, somehow, she could read perfectly. Some sounded deadly boring, like the Goblin Rebellion, who would want to read that, but some sounded quite interesting, like Greek myths, and she would have to read up on some of those, considering her parent was one. After finding no other books that interested her at the moment, she went back and picked the book about Greek Myths.
The first couple of pages were an introduction about Ancient Greek and their civilization. The Greek Gods were next. The author, who must have been a demigod, explained in great detail all of the 12 Olympians, the Titans and the Primordials. By the time she had finished the section, she guessed that her charm bracelet must have been gifted by the Olympians and her father, if he wasn't an Olympian. The rest of the book had myths and she continued reading it, guessing the knowledge would come in handy if she ever needed it. By the time she finished the book it was close to nine and the adrenaline from today's advents had worn her out.
Jasmine woke to the sound of birds chirping and water rushing past rocks. She jumped to a start as she realized that she wasn't in her room at Hogwarts but soon relaxed as the past came back to her. She soon got up and wandered into the meadow. A rough whimper pulled her of her thoughts and she pressed the jade on her ring and the twin daggers appeared in her hands.
She quietly crept forward not wanting to provoke whatever was behind the bushes. She leapt over the bushes and pointed her daggers at nothing… Jasmine glanced around until a movement caught her eye. She bent down and had a closer look at what was under a pile of leaves. Jasmine brushed off the leaves and gasped in shock as she saw the massive wound on its shoulder.
She picked up the bedraggled animal and rushed inside. She pushed the knives to one side and placed the animal on the table. She immediately began to work on the animal's shoulder. She flushed the injury out with water and started to stitch it up with one of the small knives and some string she conjured up. She dressed the wound with a spare t-shirt and left it to rest.
Jasmine went over to the bookcase and started searching for the type of animal that it was. She immediately crossed dragon and retile off the list, as it looked more like a mammal. A few minutes later she let out a small yelp off excitement as she found what she was looking for, an animal that had some resemblance to what was now laying on a very bloody table. The page that she was on was about griffins. According to this book, griffins were considered to be great protectors, but loyal to their master. They had the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion. There were plenty of different types of griffin. Ranging from one that could fly to ones the size of cars. They were said to be strong creature because lions were the kings of beasts and eagle were kings of the sky.
A few hours later the griffin began to stir. It blinked blearily at Jasmine and she couldn't help but laugh. She stumbled to her feet and slowly gained her balance. "I think I am going to name you Shadow. It suits your body and wings." The newly named griffin looked at her and nodded. This was the beginning of a great friendship.
