One Night was all it took

Official Disclaimer

The characters of Steve McGarrett and Freddie Hart and anyone else within the story who might sound familiar do not belong to me in any shape or form, I am merely using them for my own entertainment purposes.

The character of Danni Williams could probably be considered mine by now. Although the character was originally based on male Danny Williams, I think it's probably to say that she is now her own individual character. She has her own story and her own individual background now, a background and story which is different from male Danny's story. This also means that Grace is different as well since not only does she live full time with her mother but also because Danni and Duncan have a fairly civil relationship with each other. Grace's surname is also Taylor in this saga as Williams is Danni's maiden name while Taylor was her married name.

The characters of Evie Taylor, Duncan Taylor, David Williams, Cole Williams, Clare Schultz, Ally Ruiz, Sasha Drake, Natasha Clarke and Doctor Guy Thomas do belong to me

I should also add that if a character is mentioned who you don't recognise from the show then they probably belong to me as well.

Overall Summary

It was meant to be just one night of fun, just one simple night of pleasure before they went their separate ways, neither of them knew just how much that one night would change everything for them. (McDanni, female Danny Williams (OC) )

Chapter Summary

Danni stared at the man opposite him with a thoughtful expression on her face. She was aware that he was speaking to her, she could even see his mouth moving, forming around words which she knew she should be paying attention to but she couldn't quite grasp what he was saying to her. Instead it produced an irritating droning noise in her ears which she wished would stop for just a moment so she could think.

Chapter Two

Could you repeat that please?

Danni stared at the man opposite him with a thoughtful expression on her face. She was aware that he was speaking to her, she could even see his mouth moving, forming around words which she knew she should be paying attention to but she couldn't quite grasp what he was saying to her. Instead it produced an irritating droning noise in her ears which she wished would stop for just a moment so she could think.

He looked like a Doctor in his slacks and white shirt, his dark hair plastered to his head though Danni could detect a single curl which had escaped whatever hair produce which he had used that morning to tame his hair. He had kind green eyes, she thought though he looked as though he needed to have more sleep then he had clearly managed to get.

She suddenly became aware that his mouth had stopped moving and that he was instead watching her with an expectant look.

A silence descended between them, becoming increasingly uncomfortable before Danni finally cleared her throat and spoke, her voice coming out weakly.

"How far along am I exactly?" She asked, catching the spark of annoyance which crossed his features before it was gone, replaced instead with a mask of professionalism. Clearly the answer to her question had already been answered when he had been speaking before and she had merely been staring blankly at that one free curl.

"From what you've told me and the test I would estimate that you are about two months into your pregnancy Ms Williams, perhaps around eleven weeks though the Midwife will be able to confirm the date for definite for you. It's likely that the baby was conceived in November so you are probably due to give birth in August or early September time. I can see from your records that this isn't your first pregnancy?" He asked, twisting around in his chair and looking at the computer screen for a moment with a slight concentrated frown on his face.

"No, I have two daughters with my ex-husband, a six-year-old and a three-year-old." Danni answered him, interlocking her fingers together and resting her hands on her lap.

"If you have no issues with your previous pregnancy then you should be fine with this one. You're young and your overall health appears to be in excellent form. The tiredness and accompanying nausea which you mentioned earlier should pass by the time you reach three months and are out of your first trimester. I suggest though that if you're still struggling with it that you try some Ginger crystal. They are the best at treating nausea, unfortunately due to your pregnancy I can't prescribe you any anti-sickness tablets.

"I understand that." She said with a nod, slowly pushing herself to her feet, frowning when the room swam around her, causing her to swallow hard. "Thank you for seeing me." She managed to say, focusing on the Doctor with a look of surprise where he stood up as well and bridged the gap between them, wrapping a steadying hand around her elbow with a look of concern.

"Do you need a moment Ms Williams? My next patient is running late so you could use the bed if you need a moment to gather yourself while I go and get myself a fresh cup of coffee. I can see that the news of your pregnancy has come as a bit of a shock for you." He said kindly.

Danni blinked, ready to turn his offer down when she stopped herself and instead nodded at him.

"That would actually be really good as long as you don't mind." She replied, picking up on the tired note in her own voice. The Doctor nodded, shooting her a reassuring smile as he helped guide her over to the empty bed and helped her up on it. Once he was sure she was settled comfortably, he gave her another nod and headed out of the room, leaving her alone with her whirling thoughts.

For a moment she simply lay there, staring up at the ceiling above her before she slowly sat up and looked down at her stomach.

She was pregnant with a child who had been conceived in November.

The breath caught in her throat as a flashing image of a pair of blue eyes and a smile she couldn't get out of her mind hit her hard.

Steve.

She shook her head in disbelief, her hand curling into a fist on top of the mattress.

One time, just one single time that she had given into her desires for a man and she had ended up pregnant from the experience.

She placed her hand over her stomach, her fingers spread out detecting the slight swell which indicated that there was a child growing inside of her. She would have to contact Steve and tell him about the news and yet how did someone word a life changing bomb like that? How was she meant to tell the man who had given her the best night of her life before disappearing in the morning light that she was now pregnant with his son or daughter.

For a moment she considered not telling him. It wasn't as though they were going to meet again so if she didn't tell him then he would never know and she could just continue her life with three children instead of two but she quickly rejected the idea, sickened at herself for even considering that option for a second. He was the father to their child and he had a right to know about the baby. She had to tell him even if he came to the decision that he didn't want to be a part of the baby's life.

At least then she would know in her mind that she had tried and at least given him the opportunity to be involved.

A smile curved her mouth as her heart swelled with love at the thought of her unborn child.

Would it be another girl to join Grace and Evelyn or would it be a boy. Her grey eyes or Steve's blue eyes, personally she hoped the baby would inherit Steve's eye colour which then led her mind to the question of what the baby's hair would be like and whether it would be dark or whether one of her children would finally have inherited her golden waves. She wanted to meet the baby already and be able to hold them. She would have to think about names and breaking the news to her friends and her family once she had told Steve, not to mention the fact that she would need to inform her boss and figure out her maternity leave.

Breathing out she slowly came to her feet again, thankful that the room this time remained still around her. She looked up as the door to the room opened and the Doctor entered again, holding a huge mug of steaming coffee in front of him. He glanced up at her, his eyes scanning his face with a clinical look before he gave her a single nod, clearly satisfied by her appearance.

"How are you feeling now Ms Williams?" He asked her as he headed over to the desk, placing the mug on the table before he gave her a smile.

"I feel a lot better now after the lie down, thank you." She said. "I appreciate the help Doctor Thomas, have a good day." She gave him another brief smile before she moved to the door and stepped out, closing the door behind her. She made her way down the passageway which led into the large waiting area of the surgery. She spoke to the receptionist, quickly booking an appointment with the midwife before she left the building into the crisp January air, shivering as she pushed her hands into the pockets of her coat, thankful that she had abandoned her usual way of dressing and had gone for a pair of fitted black trousers with a warm jumper. Her scarf, hat and gloves kept the majority of the cold out while her thick duffel coat kept the sharp wind at bay.

Danni moved towards her parked car and unlocked it, climbing into the driver's seat with a thankful sigh before pulling it closed behind her, locking herself in out of habit. She fished out her cell phone from her bag and fired off a quick text to her Second in Command to let him know that she was on her way before she opened up a fresh message, scrolling through her contact list and selecting the number which had been listed under the name Commander.

She had been surprised when he had left her his cell phone number on the note, telling her to message him if she ever needed anything. He had warned her in the same note that he might not always be able to reply to her straight away but that he would receive it and get back to her as soon as he could. Danni had originally had no intention of contacting him and yet she had still entered his number into her phone's memory and occasionally would find herself staring at it, lingering over his name for a moment before forcing herself to move on.

Breathing out slowly she turned the key in the ignition and turned on the heater, her eyes closing in relief at the sudden blast of hot air washing over her before she forced them open again and looked back at the waiting blank message.

What exactly was she going to tell him?

It wasn't as though she even knew anything about him, all she really knew was his name, his rank and the fact that he was a SEAL.

How old he was, if he had any family, what his interests were, his likes and dislikes, even if he had any other children, were all things she didn't know.

She swallowed hard at the last thought, surprised by how disturbed she felt at the thought that he wasn't single. Pushing it away, she quickly wrote out a message, rereading it once before pressing the send button so that she wouldn't change her mind about sending it. She put the phone on silent and dropped it back into her bag before reversing her car out of her parking space and onto the main road, heading in the direction of the New Jersey Police Department.

She sighed, gripping the steering wheel tightly and forced herself to focus on the here and now rather than her news.

She had work to do after all.
