"Koda?" Kenai called, as he searched around for his brother bear. "Koda where are you?"

Kenai had been searching for his brother the whole morning. Ever since Kenai woke up, Koda was not anywhere in their cave, which had wondered him. Why would Koda leave like that? On their journey he was used to Koda always jumping on him, trying to force him awake by also nibbling his ears. Kenai was at first annoyed by the cub's wakeup calls, but soon he had learned to live with them, and even though he would never admit it, he enjoyed the way of being woken up.

What also had wondered Kenai was that Koda, had in no way whatsoever tried to sleep beside him! Ever since their journey had ended he had slept a good five feet apart from him. It was so weird, because normally Koda would run to Kenai's side and snuggle close in his warm fur. Truth be told he loved when Koda slept beside him through their journey, and how he had snuggled in close. At first Kenai would never had allowed it, but soon enough he gave in to the little bear, seeming that he enjoyed the warmth from his brother as well. Now it was weird because for the last two days since he and Koda had returned from his man ceremony, Koda seemed so distant. It worried Kenai, oh, so much. For he missed his brother bear more than anything. And all Kenai could think was that if Koda had truly started to despise him after what he had done. But it still did not make sense because he had forgiven him. He said the most beautiful truthful words about how brothers should always stick together.

Did he not want Kenai as a brother anymore?

kenai walked towards the huge bear named Tug, whom he had become good friends with ever since the first time he had went to the Salmon Run.

"Tug have you seen Koda?" Kenai asked, his voice slightly worried. "I can't seem to find him anywhere, and he has been gone ever since I woke up."

Tug could not help but chuckle upon hearing Kenai's worried tone. He knew that Kenai was an amazing brother towards Koda, and that he loved him more than anything. Koda was lucky to have Kenai take care of him, and even more so, to worry about him like he did. "Well, I think I saw him heading for the open fields." Said Tug as he scratched his head.

Kenai gasped horrified. "The open fields?!" He shouted making every bear around look at him in silence. "And you didn't stop him?! There are hunters who could go there! And they can easily see him in the open!" Then Kenai sprinted away with all his might, determined to find his brother.

Every bear that heard Kenai looked at Tug with a slight glare, making him put up his paws in defense.

"I didn't know!" He said innocently.

Koda was strolling around the open fields having a good view at everything around him. He would have liked to spend the day with Kenai, but Koda had seen that he was sound asleep and didn't want to wake him. Koda had not dared to sleep beside Kenai, since they had returned from the man ceremony. And also he had never actually been alowed. And since they were newly formed brothers, he did not want to glue himself to Kenai's side, and make him annoyed. He could definitely not afford being left behind. That was the main reason why he had went to the field this day, so that he could give Kenai some space to adapt to being a bear, and most importantly their brotherhood.

Koda then spotted an orange butterfly that danced through the sky, and he could not help but giggle. He sometimes wished that he could just fly away, and forget all of his troubles. Koda then began to jump after the butterfly, and laugh, but soon he heard a horrified cry, that made him trip over a rock.

"KODA?!" Yelled a voice. "KODA, WHERE ARE YOU?!"

Koda raised a brow. Who would go all that crazy to see him?

Soon the cub stood up, and noticed Kenai who was running around the field, desperately searching for something.

"Kenai?" Koda called, voice full of confusion.

And as soon as Kenai spotted the little bear, he sprinted towards him. Koda took a step back, fearing that he had done something wrong. As soon as Kenai reached him, he scooped him up into a tight hug. "Oh, Koda." Said the bear, almost like it was a prayer.

Then Kenai gently put Koda down and looked him over. He was okay!

Then Kenai's look turned into a stern, angry one. "What were you thinking?!" He yelled, even though it was not his intention to. He had just been so worried about his little brother, and the thought of losing him was to much for him to bear. "You could have gotten killed!"

Koda flinched upon hearing Kenai's harsh tone. Just what he feared. Kenai probably hated him.

"You know that there are hunters out here! And why would you go without consulting it with me first?!" Kenai yelled, but his stern look softened as he saw the look of fright in Koda's eyes, and then the cub looked down in sadness.

Kenai sucked in a deep breath, and then opened his eyes. "Koda," He said softly, making the smaller bear look up at him. "Why did you go here without telling me?" Then he got out the whole truth that had been nagging him since the man ceremony and said, "And why did you leave without me this morning- why didn't you just wake me so we could've went together? And why have you been so distant ever since the man ceremony?"

Koda was silent as he tried to avoid his brother's eyes. How could he tell him? How could he tell Kenai that he was afraid of him being annoyed by his presence, so that he would leave him.

As there was no answer from the cub, Kenai sighed sadly. "Is it because you don't want me around?"

Koda's head flew up and his eyes instantly connected with Kenai's. The look in Kenai's eyes hurt Koda gravely. He looked so heartbroken and hesitant. Almost as if his eyes were saying. 'Don't you want me as a brother?'

Koda snapped back to reality and shook his head. "No, no, no, it's not that!"

"Then what is it?" Kenai asked, voice desperate and frustrated. "Because ever since we got here, you almost don't look at me, talk to me, or get near me! You haven't even tried to sleep beside me!"

Koda gulped and looked down as he fiddled with his paws. "I thought you didn't want me to." He whispered sadly.

Kenai rolled his eyes. "You usally don't care if I say yes or-"

Kenai abruptly stopped his sentence, as suddenly everything clicked. Koda was afraid of him being rejected!

"K- koda," Kenai said, almost in disbelief. "You're not afraid of being... Rejected are you?"

The small cub suddenly sniffed as a tear rolled down his cheek, surpring Kenai. "I- I didn't want to annoy you with my presence," Koda whispered, and Kenai's eyes widened even more. "I thought that you might get annoyed with me being around a lot, and just leave me."

Kenai could hear his own heart shatter. How could Koda think like that?

"Koda, please," Kenai begged as more tears streamed down Koda's cheeks. Even tears of his own started to form in Kenai's eyes.

"Koda, look at me." Said Kenai sternly, causing the cub to look up at him. "I would never, and I repeat, never leave you. Even though taking care of you can be a great challenge, with your bickering and billions of stories every second," He chuckled with a playful glare, causing Koda to smile and giggle. "But I would never change it for the world, because..." He paused getting emotional, as his voice turned softer than honey. "You're my baby brother, and I love you more than anything."

Koda's eyes were widened with shock and happiness, and now his tears were no longer from sorrow, but from glee. "I love you too, Kenai." Said Koda as they rubbed their heads together affectionately.

Koda pulled back and looked at Kenai hesitantly. "I was just afraid to sleep beside you, because... You never really allowed me. And I didn't want to annoy you." He said, feeling slightly embarrassed.

"Oh, Koda," Kenai spoke softly. "I love when you sleep beside me, even though I don't say it."

Koda looked up at Kenai in surprise. "R- really?"

"Really."

The rest of the day was spent by Kenai and Koda goofing around and having fun. They pranked Tug, and they even raced against each other. All in all they had an amazing day together.

Soon nighttime laid down over the Salmon Run and it was time for all bears to go to their caves and sleep.

Koda bounded inside the cave as Kenai had lied down on the small nest of soft leaves that they had made earlier so it would be more comfortable. Koda hesitantly stopped as he moved closer to Kenai.

The bigger bear noticed, and then smiled. "You comin', Koda?" He asked.

Koda grinned and then ran into his brother's embrace, and snuggled close into his tan, caramel colored fur. Kenai smiled down upon his brother. Oh how he had missed the feeling of Koda lying beside him, safe in his embrace.

Kenai gave Koda a soft lick on his forehead, and whispered. "Goodnight, Koda."

The smaller bear nuzzled his brother and said sleepily. "Goodnight, Kenai."

And that night both brothers feel asleep with loving smiles resting on their faces, as no other worries in the entire world could fill their minds. For they had each other, and that was all that mattered.
