Chapter 2:
A cool breeze flittered through the trees, beckoning leaves into a peaceful dance. The sunlight lit up the cobblestone pathway like a blazing forest-fire. Not much was heard apart from the odd chirping and growling from behind the cover of the thick trees. That's the way Eren liked it; quiet and peaceful. Looking up from the burning path he halted. His eyes were drawn ahead, concentrating on the image before him. His mouth became dry and he suddenly felt a bout of nervousness crawling its way into his chest.
There it was; right in front of him was Professor Hanji's house, a cosy bungalow painted an off-white colour. Cautiously, he pushed forward the garden gate, earning a great creek.
It's not that he'd never stepped foot inside the petite building. On the contrary, he had been there many times. Especially during his childhood years; he'd want to play with Mikasa. The last time he opened the steel garden gate was five years ago, the day his father went missing.
He carefully stepped onto the finely trimmed grass, trying not to tread on any of the flowers under his feet. He looked around the quiet garden oddly. He could have sworn that the last time he was here it was a haven for Pokémon, now it was desolate and empty. It felt so… strange. What in the world happened here? He thought. He was about to knock onto the brown wooden door in front of him when in burst open. A girl with big brown eyes stared at him for a moment. He stared back, a little awkwardly.
After a few moments she brought forward a hand and offered him a smile. "Hi!" she chirped. "Name's Sasha Brause, 'm from Dauper village," she grinned widely, bread crumbs showing around her mouth.
Eren looked away in disgust. "Eren Jaeger," he mumbled, lightly taking her hand and releasing it just as fast. He wiped it with his shirt. "I'm from-"
She waved dismissively. "Yeah, I know." She gave him another smile, "Are you coming in?"
He nodded his head and allowed himself to give a small smile in return. She seems harmless enough; he followed her into the house like a lost puppy. He was guided into the kitchen where the Professor was in deep conversation with a young girl. Sasha made her was to the cupboard and pulled out a cookie jar, munching away on the crunchy delights. She seemed to have zoned out. Eren clutched onto his satchel awkwardly. He cleared his throat lightly, announcing his presence to the females. Hanji blinked at the young man in before her. It had been five years since she last saw him; she almost hadn't recognised him. Mikasa followed her gaze gradually and smiled softly at her childhood friend.
"Eren," she greeted warmly.
"Mikasa," he mumbled in reply.
They all froze, in an awkward silence. No one said a word. The only sound that could be heard was the occasional munching of biscuits. "These are so good!" Sasha exclaimed, drooling in delight.
Hanji seemed to have snapped out of her train of thought. She suddenly bounced out of her seat and pulled a startled Eren into a choking embrace."Eren!" she squealed, ruffling his locks coarsely. Sensing his need for air, she allowed him to escape. "How are you? How's your mother? Oh, it's been so long since I've seen her! Did she get the pie I sent with Mikasa-"
"Fine. Good. Yes." He hurriedly replied, trying to keep up with her pace. "Wait- what pie?"
Hanji looked pointedly at Mikasa; who in turn, glared at the table. "They weren't at home," she deadpanned. Eren turned to her suspiciously, but decided to let it go.
"When are we going to get them?" asked Eren, changing the tense atmosphere to one of anticipation and excitement.
"What? No, 'Hi Hanji! How are you?'" she asked in mock-annoyance.
Eren grinned nervously. "Sorry. How are you Professor Hanji?"
"Professor? Now THAT is something I haven't heard in a long time…"
"Weren't you a Professor on the field?" Mikasa asked.
"I'll save that story for later," she replied mischievously. "Anyway, as for your Pokémon…" She turned to Eren and smiled sheepishly, "There's been a little…mishap…"
Sasha coughed, "Understatement."
Hanji ignored her. "You see, I seem to have misplaced the poke balls containing your starters."
Sasha snorted. "She gave them away… for fossils," Mikasa spat, Hanji glared at her.
"Thanks for your input, missy." Hanji gave her a 'you're-a-sell-out" glare, Mikasa shrugged in response.
"You're we-"
"You. did. WHAT!" Eren bellowed. His eyes bulged out of their sockets and steam poured out of his ears. He saw red. It wasn't true. It couldn't be true. She wasn't that foolish. He swore he would kill someone.
"Well, they were rare fossils. I needed them for research and the opportune moment came up. I had to take it!" she cried defensively. "Besides, they're such beautiful fossils. I might just keep them in my lab for safe keeping, they're stunning," her eyes were glazing over and drool seemed to spill out of her mouth. Eren looked at her strangely. "Oh! They may be new Pokémon! Can you believe that? Beautiful new Pokémon! I may be able to log them in the Pokédex and note down their behaviour and maybe even bring them up like humans! Wouldn't that be a riot? Human-Pokémon! Just l-"she cut herself off, her eyes widened a little.
"What?" Mikasa asked coolly.
"Eh? Oh! I found a way we can get you all starter Pokémon!"
Eren groaned. This was not how he imagined this day would be.
Voilà! Haha, sorry you'll have to wait till the next chapter to find out what's next! As for what starters I'll choose… I've gotten some great ideas, so I'll do it fairly.
See ya,
