Brenda and Dylan returned to the 90210 zip code mid afternoon on Sunday. Dylan had to drop off Brenda so she can get ready to help Kelly with all the marriage stuff that was making Kelly physically ill. Brenda walked in and was about to head upstairs when she heard both parents clear their throats. She slowly turned around and saw both her mother and father in the doorway to the kitchen.
"Hey guys" Brenda said with a smile.
"Hello Brenda. How was your weekend?" Cindy, Brenda's mother, asked with her own small smile. Cindy wouldn't say it while being near Jim but she actually really liked Dylan and how he makes her daughter very happy.
"Oh. It was fun. I mean, not at first but overall the best weekend I've had in a long time." Brenda explained. She took the opportunity to run to her parents and hug them both. "Thank you for letting me go. I love you guys." Brenda kissed both parents on the cheek and then ran upstairs to get ready. Jim looked at Cindy with an almost defeated look.
"I'm glad she's happy." Jim said.
"She is. Why do you not sound so happy?" Cindy asked, crossing her arms.
"Because, my baby girl…isn't a baby girl anymore." Jim said staring up the stairs.
"She may not, but Jim, you've raised that girl to be responsible and loving. She is you. Stubborn like you but loving just like you." Cindy explained placing her hand on his shoulder.
Jim placed his hand over hers lovingly, "No sweetheart, she gets that from you."
Brenda arrived at Kelly's and ran upstairs to her room where she found Kelly wiping away tears. Brenda ran to her and asked, "What's wrong Kel?"
Kelly looked at Brenda with a tear stained face, "Jake left." Brenda hugged her friend and decided to refrain from telling her about her weekend now. She could wait.
"Alright Kel. Wanna get out of here? Your mom seems to have everything under control right now. Let's go to the Peach Pit and pig out on mega-burgers." Brenda said in an attempt to make her friend smile. "We can even call Donna. Make it a girls night out or something." Kelly smiled. The first smile shes shown since Friday.
"What about Dylan?" Kelly asked. "I mean, wouldn't he like to see you?"
"Kel, he got me all weekend. It is your turn." Brenda said to Kelly, giving out her hand for Kelly to take. Kelly took it and Brenda lifted her off her bed. "You can't be upset or sad tomorrow. Your mom is getting married." Brenda said as she grabbed the phone and dialed Donna's number. Once Donna answered, she smiled and explained what the plan was to her. Donna agreed to meet them at the peach pit in a half hour. Brenda hung up and dragged Kelly out of her room, down the stairs and into Kelly's car.
"Alright Kel. Let's go be girls at the peach pit." Brenda said making Kelly laugh as she drove off to the peach pit.
Brenda returned home after a very successful afternoon with Donna and Kelly. Donna and Brenda finally made her forget about Jake. At least for the night. When Kelly had dropped her off, she noticed Dylan's porche sitting in the driveway.
Kelly glanced over, "Looks like Dylan wanted you a little bit more." She joked. Brenda laughed and pushed her lightly.
"I'm sure he got enough of me this weekend." Brenda joked.
"You never told me about this weekend. How was it?" Kelly asked.
Brenda smiled and looked at her lap. It was…perfect. We had a small bump in the beginning but once we made up, it was a dream weekend." Brenda looked at Kelly who just smiled back at her.
"I'm happy for you Bren. You two are what everyone wants their relationship to be. I think that's why I got so bummed about Jake. He was the closest I had to getting that." Kelly said, her smile fading.
"No. No. Don't do that. Don't try to mirror what Dylan and I have. Trust me, it took a long time to get to this place with him. Go after what you want. Make it your own. You'll find that perfect guy." Brenda said as she climbed out. "I know it." Kelly smiled back as she watched Brenda turn and leave. She watched as Dylan was coming out and Brenda surprised him. She couldn't make out what they were saying but their smiles never left their face. Dylan picked her up and kissed her for a solid minute. Kelly had to smile at the scene.
"Yeah, my perfect guy is around the corner." She whispered to herself. As soon as those words left her mouth, Brandon had pulled in the driveway next to Dylan's car. She tilted her head and smiled. "Maybe Bren is right.". Brandon got out of his car and looked over at the scene at his front door. He rolled his eyes and smiled. Then looked at the curb and saw Kelly looking straight at him. He waved her and smiled, a smile she returned and waved back. She turned her car on and left. Brandon watched her leave. He looked back at the front door where Cindy seemed to have invited Dylan and Brenda inside. Brandon smiled and looked back towards the direction that Kelly had droven off to. His main mission, before Senior year is over, is to get a date with a certain blonde. Brandon walked back to house and closed the door behind him as his brain was racking up ideas on how to get Kelly Taylor on a date.
