So, I'd like to thank/blame Bitemetechie for the idea that Waylon and Pam are sort of friends. Inasmuch as either of them have friends. If you like this, go read Bitemetechie's Metamorphosis. While this mentions Revenge of the Joker Black Orchid, Batwoman, a few characters from Gotham Academy, the Swamp Thing and Cycle of Death and Rebirth, no knowledge of them is required. (Cycle of Death and Rebirth is the bomb though.)
In the decades she'd known him, Poison Ivy found that Waylon Jones could be surprisingly quiet. A seven foot tall man with a barrel chest and teeth like-well, a crocodile- had no business being as quiet as Selina. She started when he sat down next to her. She hadn't seen him for a while, and figured he wanted to catch up.
"I'm leavin' Gotham," he said. "Things have been weird lately."
"That's putting it mildly," Ivy replied, absently. Ever since the Joker's death a few months ago, things had been majorly unsettled. New territories up for grabs, unexpected retirements, the dynamic was ever shifting and Batman had taken on a new brutal edge. He always took it hard when the Robins died. Harley swore that the latest was still alive, just broken, but Ivy didn't really believe her.
"Yeah, well, I've had things broken often enough by Batman- ever since whatever went down with Joker, he's been in a mood. How's Harl?"
Ivy gave a one-shoulder shrug. "She's keeping it together for Lucy, but..she's a wreck. No wonder, hanging around Joker for that long. I thought you liked Abbot's crew."
"They're nice, but Abbot's got this thing for Batwoman that creeps me right out. If she whistled, he'd come running, and she doesn't even like dudes. I ain't getting any younger either. I'd like to go back to where it's nice and warm. That's why I'm here tonight actually-could you tell Alec I'm comin' down?"
She nodded absently.
"Forgot to ask, how're your kids?"
"Good. Hazel's off-planet, Rose is somewhere in Brazil, and Thorn's in Hong Kong. Doing what I don't know. They grew up so fast."
"I know what you mean. My kid's off in Oregon right now and she's twenty-three already. She lives here. I don't think she'd ever leave permanently."
"I didn't know," Ivy said.
"Her mother was Calamity. She's got the same powers, but she got 'em fixed somehow so they don't overwhelm her. I keep an eye on her when I can. She was kept out of foster care, thank god."
"Wait, I think I met her. Nice kid. And now that you mention it, she's got your eyes."
"She's lucky that she takes after Sybil."
Ivy smiled tightly, foregoing comment. Croc didn't have to be reminded about his looks.
"I'll tell Alec, then," she said. "He won't mind putting you up?"
"It's a big swamp. As long as I keep a low profile, no one will even notice me."
"How're you gonna get down there?"
"I'll figure something out."
"Good luck," she said, feeling a pang of envy. "Maybe I'll go somewhere warm myself after Harley's stabilized. I haven't seen Black Orchid for a long while."
"Be seeing you, Pamela."
"Au revoir, Waylon."
Oh, look, it's short. So while I'm putting this in Interregnum for now, I may expand on this. Reviews are love.
