Chapter Two

"Sooooo, your name is Westley?" Lulu asked as she and Alicia hurried to catch with the young man.

"Yes."

"And...where exactly are we?" Alicia knew the question sounded stupid, but she had to ask. But she did have a good idea…

"Florin. Guilder is located across the Florin Channel. But if you live in Guilder, then it's called the Channel of Guilder." They were at the stables now, and Westley began to brush the mane of a tan stallion. "I've lived in Florin for a while, but I don't know if I'll stay much longer." He frowned as he looked outside. "It is getting rather late. There's not much else to do here tonight, so we can get you two settled in after supper. You two could go to the house and pick up our food, if you wanted to." Lulu and Alicia nodded and left him for the main building on the property. It wasn't too hard to find, considering that there were only three main areas on the land: the house, the farm, and Westley's little hovel tucked away in the corner of it all.

When the girls arrived at the house, they raised their hands to knock on the door, but stopped when they heard conversation inside. It was about Westley. "I'll leave the lad an acre in my will."

"You'll spoil him!" This was the shrill voice of an older woman.

"He's slaved for many years; hard work should be rewarded," a gruff man's voice replied.

"Farm Boy is lazy! I'm the one who gives him all of the work!" Ah, there was Buttercup. And now her parents turned their attention towards her.

"You didn't bathe!" Her father chastised.

"I did!"

"Not with water! You reek like a lion!"

"I've been riding all day," Buttercup explained.

"You must bathe, Buttercup," her mother added. "Boys don't like their girls to smell of stables."

"BOYS!" Buttercup exploded. Alicia and Lulu flinched at the clattering of something wooden (a bowl, perhaps) hitting the wall. "I do not care about the boys! Horse loves me and that is quite sufficient, thank you! Do you know what happened today? I stopped Cornelia and asked her why she won't talk to me anymore and she said, 'I should think, after what you've done, you'd have the courtesy not to pretend to ask'. So I asked her what she meant and she said I stole them! She says I've stolen those beef-witted, featherbrained, rattleskulled, clodpated, dim-domed, noodle-noggined, sapheaded, lunk-knobbed BOYS!" Alicia and Lulu yelped when the door in front of them was flung open and there stood a red-faced Buttercup. There was an awkward silence before the fifteen-year old cleared her throat and said in a much softer voice, "Oh, you must be here for your dinner. Here." She shoved three bowls of gray liquid towards them. "Enjoy. Now go away." The door slammed.

"She was much more pleasant in the movie, wasn't she?" Alicia whispered to Lulu as they walked back.

The next few days were uneventful. Lulu and Alicia learned the schedule of Westley's chores and even learned about what Buttercup did to help out. She delivered milk to everyone in the village. After a day, she insisted that Lulu and Alicia accompany her on this errand, and they obliged. Buttercup did not enjoy her work because none of the girls wanted to speak with her and all of the boys bothered her. Some of them would sneak onto the farm late and night and gossip in loud voices about her. When this happened, Westley would awaken, emerge from his hovel, track the boys down, and send them flying from the property.

Towards the end of the week, something interesting did happen. A carriage rode past the village as the girls left to deliver milk. Lulu and Alicia stopped in their tracks and stared. "Who is that?" Alicia wondered. "Prince Humperdinck?"

Buttercup snorted. "Hardly! The prince would never ride by our measly village." She glanced at the carriage for a moment. "It's probably some lower noble. He must have gotten lost."

"He's staring at you." Lulu announced. Buttercup paid her and the staring nobleman no mind, and the girls went about doing their chores.

Lulu and Alicia later heard from Westley that many men had gone out of their way to catch sight of Buttercup, who was rumored to be the twentieth most beautiful woman in the world. This was the first man of real importance in the kingdom. What the girls didn't know was that this man would mention Buttercup to a certain Count…

Another week passed. Lulu and Alicia were helping Westley tend to the cows out in the farm when Alicia looked up and gasped. "Look! Look!" Lulu and Westley looked up, and soon Lulu was gasping, too. It was a regal procession with carriages and soldiers and servants…

"What could they be doing here?"

"If it's the Count and his wife, they could be on their way to meet Prince Humperdinck's hunting party," Westley answered, still occupied with his work.

"They're getting closer!" Alicia announced, excited. "Should we go see what they want?"

"If you want," Westley replied. "I think you two could use a break, anyway." Lulu and Alicia ran out from the farm to meet the procession. Buttercup and her parents met them outside one of the carriages. Count Rugen stuck his head out and looked at Buttercup's father. His dark face was darkened more by the shadows.

"Cows. I would like to talk to you about your cows. Is it true that they are known for being Florin's finest?"

Lulu and Alicia exchanged a look. They had only been in the village for less than a month, but they knew that the villagers only drank the milk that came from this farm because it was the only dairy nearby.

Buttercup's parents had Westley show the Count and the Countess how the cows were tended to. After that, the nobles departed from the humble land, leaving Buttercup and her parents speechless.

Later that night, Lulu, Alicia, and Westley stood outside of Buttercup's house, waiting for their dinner. Buttercup handed the three of them their food and then started on Westley. "I don't like what you're doing with Horse, Farm Boy. What you're NOT doing with him. I want him cleaned, his hoofs varnished, his tail plaited, his ears massaged, and his stables spotless. This very evening. And if it takes you all night, it takes you all night."

"As you wish."

Buttercup slammed the door in their faces. Lulu swore under her breath when she was sure no one would hear her. "Do you need any help, Westley?" She asked as they ate. They never ate in the hovel. Instead, they had their meals by an old tree stump that was just outside the farm.

Westley shook his head. "Those are small stables and it's only one horse. Nothing I can't handle. You two should go get some sleep."

"Wait." The two girls jumped at the sound of Buttercup's voice. She had left her home and followed the three of them to the farm. "I didn't excuse you two girls. I need you both back at the house. Now." She stomped away. Lulu and Alicia exchanged a look before they followed her back into the house.

I'm sorry for the delay in this story. I've been busy with college applications, school, and what not...but I think updates are back in business! Along with longer chapters!

Also, there's a girl who blackmailed me into writing this chapter. She's writing another story for Jenna, but she's EVIL for forcing me to write! (Check out her story and then tell her that she's a HORRIBLE person for making me slave away on this chapter! Her story is the Outside Characters, which you can find under the Disney section on this site~!)

Review if you want a cookie! :)
