Well, I hadn't planned on writing anymore for this story but I felt an epilogue would time up the loose ends. I would suggest reading the first chap first to refresh your memory before you read this.
I hope you enjoy this…..this is probably my last update/post for awhile. This past weekend my grandfather passed away and I just can't get into my writing anymore. I will be back no earlier than two weeks but no less than a month. Sorry to those who were waiting for updates, I just can't do it.
The sun had just begun to peek above the horizon when we had finally tired. Sweaty, sticky, and slightly bloody we lay intertwined on the dewy cliff.
"Kaname, my Kaname." I sighed in bliss, "Never did I think I would be able to utter that sentence again."
Kaname smiled, his eyes gleaming like garnets "And it is a wonderful feeling to hear you say that. You know I will always be yours."
His laughter was like the ringing of a bell, so glorious. God, I would never let this man out of my life again. Damn anyone who would try to take him away. Slowly we rose to our feet, wiping the dirt and grass off of our bodies as we got dressed.
"Do you think Ichijo would allow me to stay with you in our old home?" Kaname suddenly asked.
I grabbed his hand in mine and started to guide him back home. "If you had to ask that question then you probably don't remember him very well." I teased, "You are talking about the kindest man in the village!" Smiling once again, Kaname followed me with his confidence slowly returning. ]
The house was barely in view when something jumped out of the bushes, nearly tackling me to the ground. "Zero Kiryu!" my bondmate fumed, causing me to laugh, "You had me worried sick! Why in the world would you leave the-"The flustered blonde stopped short as he realized who stood next to us.
"Hello Takuma." Kaname grinned.
My dear friend's jaw hit the floor. "How? When? Oh my god, Kaname it's really you!" he laughed as the old friends hugged each other. I soon joined in the group hug, the three of us lost in embrace.
As right as it felt, a sudden sense of sorrow flooded through my blonde bondmate. His normally shining emerald eyes were wet with tears as he pulled away. "Kaname?" his voice sounded timid, almost uncertain "Kaname, when you were gone did you see anyone else from our village?"
A mysterious look flashed across Kaname's face. "I was wondering when you were going to ask me that? Follow me." And with that he walked away.
Not wasting any time, Ichijo and I quickly caught up to him. The worn path we traveled became oddly familiar until I realized that it led to the river bank where Kaname had bathed in that night so long ago and the one where he was drowned.
As we reached the water's edge Kaname didn't stop, instead choosing to stand in the middle of the river. The water felt cool and refreshing against our skin, lightly splashing us as we formed a circle with him.
"Now repeat exactly what I say." Kaname's eyes close in concentration, "Leaving before his time, taken by the power of fire. Turn back the clock, for the man who we desire."
We spoke the chant over and over, watching Kaname make a small slit on his wrist and spill his blood into the water. There was not a sound to be heard except for our nervous breathing.
The normally calm waters suddenly began to swirl, creating a miniature whirlpool admits our make-shift circle. Faster and faster it roared and began to rise into a cone-ish form. Yet just as abruptly as it had started the whirlpool died out, leaving behind a certain petite brunette.
"Shiki!" Ichijo cried as he scooped his lover up in his arms, "I love you! I love you! ..."
I remember standing on the river's grassy bank, wrapped in Kaname's strong arms, watching the two lovers dance together in the water.
That night I discovered that Kaname wasn't the only vampire in our village; Shiki was born of a vampire father and a human mother. And as we all gathered back home, Ichijo choose to be turned.
To keep up our human façade, Ichijo and I were married. Honestly I love that man, but like a brother. Everyday the two of us went to work like before, returning to our lovers in the afternoon and no one ever suspected anything was amiss.
Once upon a time I only wrote fairytales…. I guess this is what it's like living one.
Before I go here are some of the main differences between the original story "Thinner than Water" and my story.
The original story is told by a teenage girl Jean (Zero's character) who meets this boy (Kaname's character) Robbie who is rumored to be a fey because of his green eyes.
The day of handfasting we meet the village playboy (Aido) and his brother Charlie (Takuma) who doesn't handfast because he is gay (not because his past lover died).
That night Jean stops Robbie before having sex because if she got pregnant then she couldn't work (not sure if it made sense with Zero but I put that in). Actually she wanted to be a doctor (Zero was a writer).
When Robbie was killed he ended up in the river but his body was only buried not burned (what can I say, I live for the dramatics).
