Chapter 2 - Arrival of Darkness

The rest of the day went along as boring and as normally as ever. Om Nom ate candy, hid away from Evan's parents, and slept alot in his bed. He wanted to go outside and play, but the wind sent chills down his spine when he opened the window. He had winter clothes, but he didn't know how to put them on without Evan's help, so he was stuck inside until school was over. Which felt like forever to him.

He had gotten into some of Evan's toys and found a nice yo-yo to play with. He played with it for awhile before he heard a knock on the window. Curious, he got up, placed the yo-yo down as he did, and jumped up onto the bed to look outside the window. Oddly, nothing was there.

Om Nom went back to the toy when there was another knock at the window. Annoyed, he went back to the window to find nothing again. He went back to his toy with a huff only to hear another knock. More angry now, he ran towards the window and looked back outside it. Nothing was there again.

He stared out the window, hoping to catch the culprit in the act. Suddenly, a face smacked up against the window, causing Om Nom to jumped back in shock. He felled down into the bed rather ungracefully, landing head first into the soft sheets below.

As he got up, he heard laughter coming outside of the window. Om Nom huffed, knowing that laugh from anywhere. With an annoyed look, he went back to the window and opened it for his irritating friend, Boo.

Boo was an nommie just like Om Nom was, but was a different sub species than he was. Instead of having green skin, he had skin that was as pitch black as the night sky. He had sharper fangs than Om Nom, thriving on a complete carnivore diet, although like all nommies, he could still eat candy. His eyes were sharper than his friend as well, giving him both night vision and a scarier look.

Although he looked terrifying, Boo wasn't a monster at all. He was just a trouble maker, around Om Nom's age, that liked to scare people with his looks. He also enjoyed pranking people, which he and Om Nom would enjoy together at times.

Boo hopped into the room as Om Nom closed the window behind him, shivering from the cold wind. He looked towards Boo with both a curious and annoyed looked, that asked him what he was doing there. Boo responded by hugging himself and shaking, telling Om Nom that he came here to get out of the cold.

After his annoyance with Boo was over, he gleefully jumped off the bed and next to his friend, happy to finally have someone to play with. And played they did. They played with Evan's toys for a couple of hours, got into the stashed away candy, and even pranked Evan's mom with a toy spider. They held in their giggles before they got back in Evan's room, where they both busted out in laughter, remembering how she screamed and ran all across the house.

As their laughter filled the room, Om Nom suddenly felt as if there was something watching them. He looked around, but didn't see anything in the room. He looked nervous as he looked back up at the window, wondering if anyone could be watching through there. Boo slowly picked up on his friend's nervousness and looked at him, with a concerned look mixed with curiosity.

Om Nom ignored his friend's look as he jumped back on the bed and looked out the window. There was no one there, just the tree's brown leaves rustling in the wind. He sighed as he went back down to his friend with a shrug. Boo laughed at him for being scared of nothing, which Om Nom glared at him before laughing alittle as well.

Hours passed as the two stayed together in the house, keeping eachother company before Evan came back from school. When he came back, he didn't even notice that Boo was there. He just walked past the two and fell down onto his bed, where he quickly fell into a deep slumber.

Boo chuckled as he grabbed a permanent marker from Evan's desk and jumped onto the bed, about to draw onto the child's face. Om Nom quickly jumped onto the bed in front of Boo and shook his head no. Boo grumbled as he got off the bed and placed the marker back.

Even more time passed and not much happened. Om Nom and Boo continued to play in the room and Evan eventually woke up and played his videogames, not minding that Boo was there. Evan finally did his homework after his mom nagged him for what seemed like an hour and the two got more candy. Evan then got ready for bed when night time had finally came.

Boo decided to spend the night over, so he shared Om Nom's bed. Om Nom didn't mind a bit, he in fact enjoyed having more warmth in his bed.

Oddly, Om Nom wasn't able to sleep. Usually he would be passed out before Evan and especially Boo, but this night he couldn't seem to get even a blink of sleep. He sluggishly, yet carefully as to not wake up Boo, got out of bed and onto the cold wooden floors. He shivered when his feet touched the floor and looked around the room.

The room was dark, but the moonlight that shined through the window allowed him to see well enough around. It was just as it had been before he and Boo had curled up in the box to sleep, except the room was now filled with Evan's loud snores. Om Nom grumbled sleepily. Why did he have to snore so loud? Was it cause he was human? He assumed so as he rubbed his eyes.

A small breezed blew over him, causing him to shiver harder. He looked up from where the breeze had came from and saw the window had been left opened. He shivered more and sluggishly jumped up onto the bed and then to the window to close it. If he had been less sleepy, he would have realized that the window had been completely shut before they went to bed and that something had to opened it while the other two were sleeping.

While he grabbed the window to close it, his shivers more intense from being inbetween the room and the outdoors, he felt a small hand on his back. Before he was able to turn around to see who or what it was, he was pushed outside of the window.

Om Nom yelled as he fell down onto the dead grass below, making a rather painful yelp when he hit the ground. He stayed on the ground, shivering, before he slowly got up, his legs shaking a bit. He looked up at the bedroom window, which was now closed. He shakily walked to the background to try and open it up, but it was looked. Om Nom whined alittle when he realized he'd be stuck out there for the rest of the night, in the cold.

He curled up underneath a grill, hoping that it would provide him some warmth in the night. He looked up at the closed window, wondering what had pushed him into the cold. He didn't think that Evan or Boo would do it. He knew Evan loved him too much to ever hurt him and that although Boo loved tricks and pranks, he would never do anything that would end up in someone getting hurt. Not purpose, anyways.

He was so busy looking up at the window and thinking, that he didn't even notice the black gad the moved out from the cracks of the backyard door. It slithered through the cracks like a snake and twirled in the wind, as if it was dancing. As more of the black gas exited the door, they moved closer together. The black gas roped around eachother, looking like a lump of ground meat. Soon, they began take the form of basic shapes that slowly shifted into something that looked like a black wolf. Wisps of the gas were blown from the wolf but it quickly went back into the shape, only for it to happen again, over and over. The creature slowly opened it's eyes, revealing glowly red ords in it's face. It sniffed and looked around before spotting the little green nommie under a red grill.

It growled, making Om Nom look down from the window and towards the wolf. His eyes widen and pupils constricted in fear of the wolf-like creature in front of him. He backed away slowly as it inched closer to him. It beared it's teeth at him, which was as equally black as it's whole body. It leaped towards him, his claws out and ready to tear away at the child.

Om Nom ran away from it as it landed, knocking over the grill in the process. It growled again and turned towards him, before it ran straight after him. He tried to run away, but it was faster. With on bite, it grabbed the nommie in his mouth, making Om Nom wailed in pain.

It was about to bite down harder, but then the backyard door was illuminated by an inside light. The commotion outside most have woken someone inside the house up. The wolf stared at the light, as if terrified, before it leap over the fence, Om Nom still in it's mouth.

It didn't stop running as it continued to leap over the fences of other yards. Even when it was out of the neighborhood and in town, it kept running as it dodged the illumination of streetlights. Om Nom stayed tried to wiggled out of the creature's grasp, but it caused him more pain, so he stopped moving and hopped it would just decide to let him go.

The creature didn't stop until it reached the depths of the forest, where the lights from the town couldn't touch. It breathed heavily threw it's nose, not daring to let it's green prize out of it's mouth. It kept ahold of him until it's breath evened out, which it then dropped Om Nom down and placed his giant paw ontop of him, making sure he couldn't escape. He wiggled some more and started to scream loudly when he saw the creature's mouth inched closer and closer to him.

"What in tarnation was that," an old, gruff voice yelled.

"I-I dunno man! It sounded like it came that way," a younger voice yelled out.

The wolf ears perked up as it lifted it's face away from it's food, looking in the direction the voice came from. Om Nom looked too, hoping that whoever those familiar voices came from would come amd save him.

The forest was slient. The coldness of the winter had placed all the animals into a deep slumber, if they hadn't moved away before. The wind slightly flew against the brown, dead leaves, creating a light rustling sound in the air. No sounds of footsteps we made, which made Om Nom fear he wouldn't be saved.

The deadly silence of the forest was broken by a loud pow from a gun. Om Nom flinched from it. He had never heard a loud sound like that before and it scared him even more than he was before.

The bullet that was shot went straight threw the wolf's head, creating a big gaping hole. There was no blood nor flesh, but rather only black gas, which was being blown away from it's wound at a rapid rate. It stood still as it's mouth opened up, dropping Om Nom onto the ground. With it's agape mouth, more and more of the gas was blown away from it's head, to the point where half of his head was gone. It eyes glowed red for the last time, before it faded slowly into a grey, then into a black. Once it's eyes were black, it's whole body was blown away in the wind, swirling every which way. Soon, there was no evidence that the creature had ever existed.

"Wha the hell..."

"D-dude, I-I think that's a kid over there!"

Om Nom quietly whimpered in response, still shaking from the cold. He looked up at the starry night sky that slowly began to be eatten away by black spots. Soon, all light was consumed as he fell into unconsciousness.
