Tori walked through the hallway of Hollywood Arts, coming to a stop when she reached her locker and opened the door. As she placed her books inside she saw the flier that Jade had brought to her earlier that week, giving her a reminder that she had to talk to Jade about rather or not they were going to do the experiment. Taking the flier out of her locker the youngest Vega girl looked it over and bit down on her lower lip, going over yet again what she had been thinking about the past few days.
'I just can't think of a reason that Jade would chose me,' Tori thought as she leaned against the lockers, 'I mean yeah we could both use a full ride scholarship to college, heaven knows we need it with what we pay for Trina, but it just seems…strange, to think of myself becoming a mother.'
"Por qué es tan confuso?" She sighed shaking her head.
"Really Vega speaking Spanish in school," a very familiar voice asked, "Saying something that you don't want others to understand?"
"Hey Jade," Tori said as she looked at her, giving the goth girl a smile, "and no I'm not, just kind of slipped into Spanish sometimes."
"Right, so listen my parents are out of town for the weekend and I was wondering if you would like to come over and hang out," Jade offered, shouldering her Gears of War messenger bag.
"Just the two of us?" Tori asked skeptically.
"Cat's coming over too, she was wanting to introduce us to a new friend of hers," the goth girl said poking the singer's forehead, "and if you want you can even spend the night."
"On a school night Jade?" the Vega girl said smirking.
"Drop the smirk Vega, and yeah it's not like we haven't done that before," Jade growled playfully, something she realized that she's been doing recently with Tori.
Tori giggled at Jade's attitude and pushed herself off of the lockers that she was leaning against, spinning on the balls of her feet to face Jade completely and give her a smile.
"Well if I'm going to be spending the night then I'm going to need to grab some cloths," Tori pointed out making the goth girl shake her head and smirk.
Without a word between the two of them the two girls walked down the hallway and out the front door before making their way over to Jade's Mustang GT. Climbing into the passenger seat, Tori went about looking through Jade's music to find something that they would both like while the West girl started up her car and pulled out of the school parking lot. As the car moved down the road, Jade glanced over at the half Latina and couldn't help but notice that she was smiling and humming to the song she had chosen. This made Jade smile for a second before shaking her head and returning her attention back to the road.
'What the heck am I smiling for, I mean yeah Vega's my friend now but why does that mean I have to smile for her,' Jade wondered as she tightened her grip on her steering wheel.
This didn't go unnoticed by Tori though as the young Vega girl saw Jade's already pale knuckles somehow turn even whiter and that she was now scowling for some unknown reason. This made her frown as she didn't like to see any of her friends upset, and it was even more concerning because Jade was just smiling as they left the school.
"Jade is something wrong?" Tori asked confused.
"What?" the goth girl replied looking over at her, mirroring her in confusion as they turned on to the street that the Vega house was on.
"Well it's just…you seem upset about something," the Vega girl pointed out.
Jade pulled into the Vega's drive way and parked her car, Tori grabbing her backpack and getting out of the car. The two of them made their way inside, Tori taking a mental note that Jade still never answered her question as she dropped her bag and started looking through her cloths for something to take with her.
"So are you going to answer me or am I going to have to come up with some devious plan to get you to tell me?"
"You, Tori 'Goody Two Shoes' Vega, are going to come up with a devious plan?" Jade laughed as she sat down on her bed.
"Hey I can come up with a devious plan if I really wanted to," Tori stated pouting.
"Vega you won't even drink milk out of the carton," Jade pointed out with her signature smirk.
"I totally could!"
Still smirking, Jade walked out of the bedroom and left Tori standing there wondering what she had planned. Her silent question was quickly answered though as Jade came back into her room carrying, much to Tori's dismay, a gallon of milk and holding it out for her. The Vega girl stood there as she looked at the milk being held out to her, Jade silently willing her to take it and drink from the jug. Taking said jug in her hands, Tori gulped and opened it, holding it up to her lips as she got ready to drink it when she started to tremble.
"…I can't do this!" Tori groaned handing the jug back to a laughing Jade, "you're not supposed to drink out of the jug it ruins it for others."
"What did I tell you Vega," Jade laughed as she took a drink from the jug, Tori scrunching her nose, "now then what was that about coming up with a devious plan?"
"Okay so maybe I can't drink milk from the jug," Tori huffed in annoyance, "but that doesn't mean I can't come up with some way to get you to tell me what's wrong."
"Relax Tori, don't get your panties in a twist," the thespian chuckled setting down the jug, "I never said I wouldn't tell you, you just didn't give me a chance to answer you."
"Oh….so um, why did you seem upset earlier in the car?" the singer asked in shock.
"It's nothing, guess I was just wondering when it was that I started changing," Jade replied with a shrug.
"What do you mean, you're still the same Jade," Tori said concerned.
"I look like the same Jade, but…I don't know I just feel like I've been changing," Jade replied laying down on the bed, "at least I've changed in terms of I'm not that big of a gank to my friends."
"Are you upset that you're a bit different now?" the singer asked tilting her head to the side, her eye shining in a way that made Jade's heart miss a beat.
"Not really, like I said I was just trying to pinpoint when it was I started to change," Jade said as she moved to lay down on Tori's bed, "I mean if I had to guess I've been acting nicer to you guys for a while but it really started to change after…"
"After…Beck died?" Tori whispered looking at the floor.
"Yeah…"
Tori didn't say anything after that, instead choosing to walk over and sit down next to Jade on the bed as the thespian looked up at the ceiling. Placing her hand on top of Jade's, Tori gave her a small smile and laid down next to her, just allowing her pale friend to feel her presence in place of talking for the moment. It was something that the Vega girl found that Jade liked to do after their friend died, and filed that into her mind so that she could be there for the West girl when she needed her. After laying there for about ten minutes, the two sat up and smiled at each other before Tori grabbed her backpack and the bag that she threw some clothes in for the next day. Running down the stairs, Tori said good bye to her mother as Jade put away the milk jug, got back into Jade's car, and made their way to the West house. After the two arrived they went about getting a few things set up for when Cat and her friend showed up when Jade remembered that the deadline to sign up for the experiment was the next day.
"So Vega have you um, have you thought about the experiment?" Jade asked, not looking up from her DVD collection.
Tori froze in place as Jade's words registered in her mind. Biting down on her lower lip, the youngest Vega child sat down on the couch in Jade's living room and pulled the flier out of her backpack. Running her thumb over the paper she ran through the mental track that her mind had been going through the past few days ever since Jade had brought this up to her. She was interested, the chance for a full ride scholarship as being as a temptation to her as it was for Jade, but she was still hesitant of what would happen to the child. She knew very well that if they went through this she wouldn't want to have…well she couldn't even bring herself to even think of that word, and she wasn't sure that she would be willing give the child up for adoption either. But the issue was that if they did go through with this, if they did the experiment and found that they were going to have a child, they would be out of high school and looking to go to college if not already there. As Tori was going through her mental battle, Jade placed her hand on her shoulder and gave it a small squeeze to bring her back into reality.
"I already told you it's no big deal if you don't want to do this Tori," she reminded her as she sat down next to her.
"But what about the scholarship?" Tori asked setting the flier down, "I thought that was the main reason that you wanted to do this."
"The scholarship would be great but I have looked at others as a just in case," Jade told her as she placed her hand over Tori's, "I just thought that this would be a good way to get a full ride to college, but if you're not comfortable with this then…"
"I'm just concerned Jade," Tori stated with a sigh, "I don't want to have a child and not have time to raise our child because we're too busy with college."
'Of course Tori would be concerned about not having time to raise a child,' Jade thought as she chuckled to herself before noticing Tori's glare.
"Relax Tori, I'm sure that if we had a child we would make plenty of time to raise it," Jade promised with a smile, "beside I'm sure that our parents would volunteer to help us if it looked like we're having trouble."
Tori nodded with a sigh, her fears starting to disappear with Jade's reassurance, if only a tiny bit. But something that Jade said brought up another question that Tori was wondering about.
"By the way, do your parents know about this plan?" she asked, noticing Jade's eyes widen a fraction of an inch.
"Well um, you see it's uh…"
"They don't know do they?" Tori said with a smirk.
"I didn't want to say anything until it was one hundred percent that we were going to do it," Jade muttered leaning back into the couch, "honestly I wasn't really sure we were going to have this conversation, figured you would say no right off the bat, that's why I made sure to have a backup plan."
"Well I'm not saying no just yet," Tori muttered as well, "I'm just trying to get some answers before I make my final decision."
"Okay and what do you want to know?" the West girl asked with a cocked eyebrow.
"You said that you made a list of pros and cons for me and Cat and you ended up choosing me because you don't feel as if Cat if ready to take care of a child…"
"I said she wasn't ready for motherhood, Cat loves children and loves taking care of them, but taking care of someone else's child and your own are two different ball games," Jade pointed out, Tori rolling her eyes.
"Anyway, I want to know the official reason on why you chose me," Tori continued as she crossed her legs and turned to face Jade.
"It's like I said you're on of my female friends and I thought it might be a good way for us to get a scholarship," Jade replied, avoiding eye contact with her.
"I'm sure that you could have found someone else that you like that you could do this experiment with Jade."
"Why are you grilling me about this Vega, you're making this much more complicated this it should be," Jade growled as she glared at the Vega girl, "all you have to do is say yes or no and we can move on."
"Because I want to know why you chose me!" Tori yelled standing up and stomping her foot, "I'm going to be honest here Jade you've been a total gank to me from the time I started at Hollywood Arts until about halfway through our junior year, now don't get me wrong I love the fact that we're friends now but I want to know, why would you chose me to have a child with because I don't want to raise one in a hostile enviro…"
Tori was quickly cut off as Jade stood up as well and glared at her, causing Tori to take a step back as she could feel her heartrate speed up. Taking a deep breath Jade placed her hand on Tori's shoulder and gave it another small squeeze.
"Look Tori if we do go through with this and have a child then I promise you that I'm not going to raise our kid in a hostile environment," Jade said softly, Tori's heartbeat returning to normal.
"But you can't just pro…"
"Yes I can Tori, I know full well what it's like to live in an environment where the parents are constantly arguing with each other," the thespian girl remarked lowering her hand, "and I don't want that for my child, that's why I chose you okay because I knew that if anyone would be able to help me raise a child properly that it would be you."
Tori blushed bright red at Jade's proclamation and looked down at the dark oak wood floor, mainly looking anywhere that wasn't the girl in front of her. There felt what was like a thousand emotions running through her mind, and her heart was starting to race again as she could tell that Jade was very much telling her the truth. However, she wasn't sure if she was ready to be a mother though, and she knew that Jade gave her an out but she wasn't sure if she wanted to take it. The young Vega girl was torn because she wanted to be a mother, had always wanted that for as long as she could remember, but she also knew that raising a child while in college would be difficult. But Jade was also right in what she said before that their parents would surely help them if they asked, and they had their friends to help as well. Looking back up at Jade, Tori could see her eyes gleam slightly and she couldn't stop her second blush from forming.
"Alright," Tori said after taking a calming breath, "I'll do it."
"Really, I don't want to push you into doing this if you really don't want to Tori," Jade said cautiously.
"I have a few conditions though," The singer said making her friend frown.
"And that is…"
"First off, I'm not giving the child up," Tori started making one of Jade's eyebrow lift slightly.
"I figured that," Jade replied, wondering where this was going.
"Secondly you have to tell your parents," Tori continued tapping her foot on the floor.
"Again I figured that."
"And finally, if we're going to do this then I want you to take me out on a date, and I mean an actual date, not like the fake one Sikowitz made us go on," Tori concluded with a smile, "I don't need to say that I want you there for the child because I know you will be."
Jade smiled and hugged Tori, the half Latina hugging her back when she heard Jade say that she would call the doctor that was running the experiment and tell her that they were interested. The two were content to stay like that for reasons unknown to them when they heard a very familiar voice over by the front door.
"Um…are we interrupting something," Cat asked, making them jump as they turned to look at their red headed friend.
Sure enough, standing in the front doorway, was their best friend Cat Valentine and a girl with shoulder length brown hair and blue eyes, Rachel if Jade remembered correctly, looking at them confused.
"Heh, no Cat you didn't interrupt anything," Tori laughed walking over and hugging her, "now come on we have a lot of stuff to do but we can't start that until we finish our homework."
Author Note: Like I said I'm hoping to make this story a bit longer then what I originally had and hopefully by adding more onto it I'll be able to have a better story. There are something that I'll be adding in as well, this next chapter will have Tori and Jade getting to know Rachel and a longer conversation with the doctor that will be running the experiment, and I'll also be mending some of the things that I didn't make clear last time. So as always R&R, I love hearing about what you all think of my stories.
