A love promise had long ago been forgotten. The world kept moving forward, and the soul mates had lost their way.

A young man ran through the park trying to get to where he needed to be in time, when he bumped into a man slightly older than himself.

"Sorry!" the young man exclaimed, readying himself to keep on running, but the other man stopped him. "Wait, you're a student at Duel Academy?"

"That's what I'm hoping for." The guy answered, "If I can get there in time for the opening duel."

"Well then, I won't take any more of your time, but here." The stranger said, handing him a card.

The young man was somewhat confused, but he took the card gratefully, "Thanks! I gotta go now!"

"Good bye and good luck." Said the other man, who at that moment stopped being a stranger.

"Yugi?!" The Young man exclaimed. Yugi just kept waving.

To say the truth, he was not on time for the opening duel, but it might have been that fate had a promise to fulfill, that they let him duel so he could stay.

A blonde girl with grey eyes looked at the new student with keen interest, and she wondered why that was since she had never seen him before.

After a few days, both had become friends and rumors started circulating.

"Asuka, c'mon, tell us, what's up with you and Judai?" he friends, Junko and Momoe, asked.

"Nothing. There is nothing going on between us or between anybody, stop bugging. Gee, I can't be friends with anyone without someone thinking that there's something there or worse still, that I'm having sex with them." The blonde answered annoyed.

Her friends shut up. They knew other girls were jealous of Asuka's beauty and her closeness to the academy's 'king" and because of that closeness heavy rumors had circulated about that, but this time Junko and Momoe saw something different in the way their friend interacted with that guy.

"We're sorry Asuka, it's just that we found it weird that you became such fast friends with him. You're always so serious, especially when it comes to guys, so we thought that maybe you were interested in Judai. It's natural, we're young." Junko told her.

"It's nothing like that." Asuka said, evasively. There was something in Judai that attracted her, but she couldn't put her finger on it. She had never been the type to believe in love at first sight and other nonsense girls her age constantly thought about, but she was starting to think that maybe she had fallen in love with Judai at first sight. It was the only explanation she could find to whatever it was she was feeling.

"Asuka, can I see your deck?" Judai came over, accompanied by his new friend, Sho.

"No, are you insane?" Asuka exclaimed.

Judai smiled, "It was worth a try."

"That's called cheating." Asuka retorted.

Judai smiled again, "I would never think of cheating. You know, the other night I had a really hard time defeating you, you have a very good deck."

Asuka decided to ignore her feelings. Judai wasn't the type of guy she wanted to get involved with. He wasn't sufficiently mature for a relationship not revolving around dueling, and no matter how self-sufficient she was, she was still only a 15 year old girl.

"Judai, someday we'll duel again and I will win."

"I will anxiously be waiting for that, you know I never back down from a duel."

"Me neither." They sealed that promise with a handshake.

At contact, her heart raced, but she decided to ignore it and let time determine what it was that she was feeling .And so, with that goal in mind, she kept on being the Asuka she'd always been.
