I mostly did this so that all of you readers would get notices about when the revamped/rewritten chapters were done. To my old, faithful followers I tell you that almost all of my stories will be getting a rewrite done to them. Just be patient. To my new readers, I say welcome.
Disclaimer: I don't own Doctor Who or Torchwood.
A few streams of sunlight are piercing through the curtains of the cream and blue room of Rose Tyler. In the large, queen sized bed Rose is wiggling around in her sleep. Unknown to all but her, she is in the throes of a terrible nightmare involving rather large spider-like creatures. Just as it seems as if she might drown from the water in the dream, a sudden beeping noise shatters the dream into nothingness.
As Rose's alarm clock goes off, she blearily opens a single eye. Reaching out towards her bedside table, she hits the off button to the rather annoying alarm. Letting out a sigh as she stretches her some of her muscles, Rose rolls onto her left side while being careful of her belly. A sudden gurgle sound comes from her belly and in an instant, she throws the blankets off of her. Moving as fast as she is able to get out of bed, Rose rushes to her bathroom. Once inside, she squats down to throw up into the toilet. This goes on for five minutes before the nausea starts to goes away. Rising up, Rose flushes the toilet and slowly traverses towards the sink so that she can wash out her mouth.
'Oh god, I thought I was done with the morning sickness.' Thought Rose as she goes back into her bedroom. She pays no attention to what the number on her alarm clock say, and slowly sits down on the edge of her bed.
"Rose! Rose love, it's eleven o'clock. Are you gettin' up?" Jackie calls from the other side of Rose's bedroom door.
Letting out a sigh, Rose replies. "Yeah mum. I'm up."
Slowly Rose rises up from her bed as the baby inside of her give a mighty kick to her side. This kick causes Rose to place a hand on the point of impact, and she begins to rub the area to try and sooth the restless babe inside.
'Mum was right. It does become harder to carry later on in a pregnancy.' Rose thinks to herself as she smiles down at her rather large baby bump. A week earlier, she had surpassed the ten month mark. 'I wonder how much longer this is going to last? If the Doctor was here...' at this point in Rose's thought a shiver went down her spine. There would be no Doctor here to welcome their child into the world. Nor would he even get to see their child grow.
"Rose? You coming or am I gonna have to come in there?" Jackie's voice comes again from behind the closed bedroom door.
"I said I'm coming, mum." Rose shouts out in reply before mumbling to herself. "I swear, sometimes I just don't know what she wants from me."
"What did you say?"
"Nothing, mum."
Rose walks over to her closet and pulls out a nice pale blue maternity top and blue jean maternity pants. As she begins to get take off her knee length maternity night gown, she has to stop every so often to breathe.
'Who would have thought you could get winded just by putting on clothes.' She thinks to herself as she tries to pull on her pants. Once she is finished dressing, Rose heads down the stairs and enters the kitchen where the rest of her family is seated.
"Hey Rose." Mickey says in greeting as he takes another bite of a piece of toast. Like the rest of the family, Mickey is eating morning brunch at the breakfast bar.
"Hey Mickey." Rose replies back with a smile on her face.
"So..."
"So what, Mickey?" Rose asks as she begins to make a plate full of breakfast items for her to eat.
"So what's gonna happen when you give birth? I mean, the father isn't exactly here to help you and..." Mickey asks as he watches Rose take a bite out of a peeled banana.
Rose stops chewing on the chunk of banana that is in her mouth and gives Mickey a hard look. Slowly she chews what is in her mouth, but doesn't break eye contact with Mickey. Once her mouth is empty of the banana, Rose decides to speak.
"Don't you dare." She growls out at Mickey. "Don't even dare, Mickey."
"But Rose.." Mickey starts to say as he gets up from the stool at the breakfast bar.
"I said, no!" Rose shouts back at him before slamming her plate of food onto the counter top. The plate breaks from the force of impact, and this causes both Pete and Jackie to look at the two younger people.
"You will not be replacing the Doctor as father to my child, Mickey." Rose shouts at Mickey before quickly rushing out of the room in a fast waddle.
She makes it up the stairs at a rather impressive speed for a heavily pregnant woman. Upon reaching her bedroom, Rose closes the door behind her with a loud thud. Taking several deep breaths to try and calm herself Rose realizes that she still has the banana in her left hand. Seeing that the fruit survived almost whole, Rose starts to laugh at the absurdity of carrying the banana with her up the stairs and to her room.
Just as her laughter begins to die down, a very sharp and stabbing pain ripples across her belly, causing Rose to gasp out in surprise. The pain is so great that the banana in her hand is squeezed into mush where she is holding it. As she tries to breathe through the pain, a realization begins to hit her. The pain isn't receding.
"Oh god." Rose mumbles out as the pain keeps going without end. She moves towards her bed before she feels something wet going her legs. Looking down at her legs Rose says one word. "Shit."
Throwing the banana to the floor, Rose is about to cry out for her mum when she hears the front door to the mansion close with a thud. Unsure if anyone is still downstairs, Rose moves slowly towards her bedroom window. Looking down at the gravel driveway, she sees Mickey, Pete, and Jackie climb into the black car below before it drives off.
'Oh god. I'm alone.' Rose thinks to herself just as pain begins to increase.
"No...No one is here. I'm alone." Rose whimpers out before letting out a loud scream of frustration and pain. Then her knees buckle out from underneath her. Using her hands to try and catch her fall, Rose keeps herself from falling forwards.
Rose lets out another scream as the pain again increases with intensity. Slowly she moves towards her bed on hands and knees before climbing up onto the bed. Another increase of pain hits her, and she knows that she is in trouble. Without another person to help her, Rose isn't sure about what she should do. Should she call Jackie for help, but then again her own mobile phone is downstairs on the charger. And the closest landline is in Jackie and Pete's room down the hallway. With as much pain that she is in, there is no way Rose would reach the phone.
"Help me. Doctor!" she screams out in desperation while on her hands and knees on her bed. "Please!"
On the other earth, in a different universe, someone hears Rose's cry for help. But it wasn't the Doctor who receives the message. It is another Time Lord, who has been touched by the untempered schism.
"Lucy. I think someone is trying to get a hold of our guest." The Master looks over towards a metal cage that holds his adversary.
The Doctor, however, isn't awake to hear what the Master has said. For he had turned into himself, his mind, to avoid the Masters torments. Even his connection to the Tardis has been almost severed, but there is still a small, single thread of a connection left that hums with life.
"Why is that?" Lucy asks with some trepidation. Even though she is married to this harsh man, she still can't bring herself to question his authority, nor his treatment of the other Time Lord.
"Someone has hidden a secret from our dear Doctor, but no matter. Without the father being present for the birth, the mother and child will die." The Master smiles gleefully at the thought of how much pain this would cause the Doctor. He walks over to the cage that holds the Doctor and laughs. "Your mate and offspring will parish, and there is nothing you can do. Sure I could be merciful and go get them for you. But were would be the fun in that."
The Doctor still doesn't respond to the Masters' torment. Inside of his mind, the Doctor wanders around using his memories of Rose and all his other companions to keep himself from falling too deep. What the Doctor doesn't realize is that all of his previous forms have suddenly disappeared from his mind. They were no longer chiding him for his compassion or his reluctance to fight the Master. In fact, they weren't speaking at all. So where had they all gone?
Parallel World...
Rose has been in labor for 6 hours with no reprieve from the constant pain. About two hours into this ordeal the pain had stopped intensifying, but it didn't leave. She had read many books about pregnancy and labor, but this birth was not going to be like what was described. In fact, she wasn't sure if this birth was going to follow the human path or the path of the Doctor's people.
Now six hours after the pains had begun, Rose could feel pressure building in her pelvis.
"Oh...My...It...It hurts." Rose cries out in agony. She is tired, weak, and ready for all of this to be over with.
Glancing down towards her legs, Rose makes a startling discovery. 'Too much blood.' Her mind screams out at the sight of the building red color on her bed sheets. From the amount of blood that is on the sheets, Rose begins to understand just how much trouble she and her unborn child are in. She closes her eyes in defeat.
"I'm sorry Doctor, but I can't..." Rose whimpers out as lets her upper body fall back into two pillows that she has behind her back.
"Don't give up Rose." comes a voice that has a Northern accent to it.
"What? Who... who said that?" Rose opens her eyes and lets out a gasp of surprise.
Surrounding the bed that Rose is lying on are several men. They range from elderly looking to young. Several of the younger looking ones are looking at Rose as if she is the most precious thing in the universe. Yet it is the one that Rose is most familiar with that causes her heart to ache.
"Doctor? But how?" Rose whimpers out as she takes in the sight of her first Doctor, all brooding and still wearing his leather jacket.
"Now love, don't worry. We're here to help you." says the curly blonde haired one, who is wearing a brightly colored stripped suit jacket.
"What? Ahhhhh." Rose growls out in agony as the pressure in her pelvis makes it feel like the bone is breaking.
"Easy there, child." says the oldest looking man. He gives her a small smile as he reaches down to brush away a lose strand of hair from Rose's face.
"You're gonna need help, and that's where we come in." the curly brown haired man sitting at the end of her bed says to her. Slowly, he removes his long scarf from off of his shoulders and paces it onto the end of the bed.
"Howw ooooowwww." Rose asks out as she begins to feel a burning sensation coming from a certain place in her pelvis.
"Well you see," the man with a celery stick pinned to his jacket replies. "The father, and mother, are supposed to be present when a Time Lord's child is brought into the world. And so here we all are."
"But..." growls out Rose as she feels the need to push. "None of you are the father."
"No, we aren't Rose, but our Tenth form is a little busy at the moment. So our essences kind of took a holiday from our mind to come and assist you." answers the man with the flat brown hair. He takes hold of Rose's hand and gives it a squeeze
"You ready?" asks the curly brown, younger looking man. He climbs up onto the bed and keels between Rose's ankles.
Rose nods her head from where it rests a top of the two pillows. However, she doesn't stay there as her former doctor places himself directly behind her. He gently moves his arms around Rose so that he can help hold her legs back.
"Alright now Rose, push." yells her brooding Doctor from behind her.
Rose pushes with all her might as all of the Doctors encourage her to keep going. This goes on for twenty minutes before the wailing of a child echoes into the room. Being as careful as he can, the curly brown haired Doctor tucks the wailing child to his chest. Unlike the others, he isn't afraid to show his emotions and begins to coo at the babe in his arms. Once the child has calmed down to only whimpers, he gently places a kiss to the child's forehead, and then sets it down to lay on the bed between Rose's legs.
"Rose?"
"Yea?"
"Your son." says her first Doctor as he looks down at the small babe.
"Our son." Rose groggily replies before reaching down to take hold of her little boy. Just as she brings the baby to her chest, she notices that all of the Doctors are beginning to fade.
"Wait." Rose whispers out to them. "Don't go."
"Sorry Rose, but we have to get back to our tenth incarnation's mind. Can't leave him alone. Might get into trouble without us there to keep him in check." Replies the ninth Doctor as he too fades away.
"Will he know?" Rose asks with tears streaming down her cheeks.
"No. Technically none of us know." Nine answers back.
"We were never here to begin with." A serious, older looking man replies before fading away with the others. This particular incarnation Rose hadn't noticed till then.
One all of the Doctors have disappeared from Rose's bedroom, several whimpers come out of the baby in her arms. Looking down, Rose notices that the baby's eyes are opened, and there is a trace of brown hair upon his head as well.
"Hello you." Rose says to her son.
The cord has already been cut and after birth is lying between her legs. But there at the end of her bed lays a long scarf. Seeing the scarf, Rose carefully leans forwards to take hold of it. As she brings it towards herself and her son, Rose looks down at her little boy.
"So what are we going to call you then? Look just your father, you do." She smiles down at her son as one of his little hands reaches up and takes hold of the edge of the scarf. "Yes. All of them are your daddy. He has many faces, but he is still the same Time Lord on the inside."
The pair stay on the bed for a time after Rose removes the soiled bed sheets. They are both on her bed once clean sheets are placed, and Rose was just starting to drift off into a light doze, when the sound of the mansion's front door opening is heard.
"Rose!" Jackie calls out as she stomps her way up the stairs. She reaches Rose's room and opens the door to find a scene that she is not prepared for.
"Oh sweetheart." Jackie says softly as she moves into Rose's room. "Why didn't you call us?"
"I'm alright, mum. Really." Rose says to her mother as she keeps her eyes on her sleeping son, who is nestled against her chest.
"Jackie?" Pete's voice comes from the hallway.
"She's had the baby while we were out." Jackie shouts out to Pete before moving over to Rose's bedside.
"Does she need a doctor or ambulance?" Pete asks as he comes to stand in the doorway of Rose's room.
"No." Rose says harshly to Pete and Jackie. "No doctors. Would you like to meet your grandson?"
Rose gently lifts her sleeping son from his place against her chest. Being as careful as she can, Rose hold him a small distance away from her body. "I named him. Jack Theta Tyler. JT for short. "
Jackie smiles at Rose and gently scoops up her grandson. "I suppose I'm going to have to ask Pete to final put up the crib?"
Rose laughs at her mother's statement, and nods her head in agreement. The two women keep their eyes locked on the little boy in Jackie's arms, and Pete starts to make calls so that the child will have a birth certificate and a Torchwood medical doctor.
Later that night, Rose has put little Jack into his crib, which sits between Rose's bed and her bedroom door. His eyes are closed tight in sleep, as though he was concentrating on something.
'What a weird birth.' Rose thinks to herself as she watches little Jack sleep. She is already dressed for bed, but is hesitant to go to sleep. Already her little boy is causing some trouble, especially since Pete has had to bribe a Torchwood doctor to keep silent that the child has two hearts.
Hearing a sniffle come from the crib, Rose leans over the rail and stares down at her child. She smiles at the thought of what Doctor would have to say about their son if he was there. Gently, Rose reaches down into the crib and with one finger, caresses her son's cheek. His lips move in a sucking motion before he lets out a soft sigh.
Seeing that her son is sleeping contently, Rose moves away from the crib and over to her window. It is dark outside now, and the stars are out. However, as Rose looks up at them, she notices one of the brighter stars flicker before going out.
Reviews are always welcome. Hopefully this rewritten chapter has you all excited to see the others.
