Note:
Zoroark!N; Zoroark!Kagome (I always loved the N is a Zoroark theory. It's a favorite of mine.)
Chapter One
It was a fascinating legend that drew him to the forest. He had traveled so long just to get there. A rare occurrence in the already rare side of their species. The number of female Zoroark was already drastically low, to the point where it was near a threat to the population entirely, but for one to be of an off-color was something that was noteworthy.
Many chattered with excitement over how they had once seen the Zoroark with purple instead of the usual red. How she had taken on a human form in order to interact with them and guide them out of her illusions, only to reveal her true form and laugh at their shock as she ran off from them.
Those stories were just as prevalent as the stories of the many poachers who had gone missing after treading into the thicket of trees. It was wise to presume that they had not been so lucky upon getting noticed by the illusion-crafting female.
He adjusted the hat upon his head as he stepped under a tree that served as an entry point to the forest in question. He glanced around to gather his bearings on the area until he settled on a direction to do.
He would have to be much more cautious than lost travelers. Despite how he looked, he was not a human like she willfully guided out, and she might not be so kind to him with her illusions.
By nature, she was excessively cautious of any sort of strangers. From ordinary trainers, new or experienced, to poachers and traffickers, she preferred to avoid each and every one. She had a deep lack of trust in human beings, and, as such, she always made sure the illusions she had cast over Zorua and herself were flawless and perfected to keep them from any dangerous situations.
She kept the Pokemon in her area safe from them. Luring innocent travelers away until they were safely on a different path and chasing poachers and other threats far away without remorse for what may happen to them. Outside of Zorua and herself, there were no others of their kind in that specific area due to her own conditions.
Colored in a way that would only lure dangers to the pack, she had been tossed out at a young age. While she had been placed in an area found to be safe from any potential threats before the rest left with her mother in tow, such an action led her to be wary of even her own species. If her own pack left her behind, what was there to stop others from causing her even worse harm? As it was, she was an error of nature.
Crunching leaves caused her to stir awake from her dozing state, and she sat up and curled her body around the kit laying against her legs. Her claws dug into the bed of flowers and leaves she had neatly arranged for the two of them. Her den, her home, was built in a cave at this time. The approaching winter had posed her to relocate for the time being in order to avoid potential snowfall. A low growl began to rumble within her chest when an unfamiliar and unbelonging scent passed her nose.
It wasn't human.
It did not belong in her territory.
She placed Zorua behind several rocks so he could hide there before standing up and stalking forward to the mouth of the cave. She disguised herself in her human form upon stepping out of the cave, and she let her eyes sweep over the area she had heard the noise originate from.
Not far away from her, she could spot a tall figure with long, light green hair. Much like her own, his also had tufts sticking up at odd angles. She narrowed her eyes when he came to a halt and turned to face her. Her gold eyes met a shade of teal blue- a color that was all too identifying as to what he was. She stood her ground, even as he began to tread closer and closer to her.
He had stopped a few yards away from her, holding his hands up in a motion that was intended to show her that he intended no harm. The only response he got in return was a muffled growl. The only thing that got her to move at all was the kit coming up behind her and leaping up onto her head, to which she threw her arms up to secure him and keep him from slipping.
"What do you want?" she finally spoke. It was a cold, snarl-laced question.
"Please understand I mean no harm," he stated upon hearing her take the first initiative to speak. She narrowed her eyes in disbelief at his words. "It's just… you have made quite the legend for yourself in the surrounding towns."
"... I am merely keeping the creatures of this forest out of harm's way by eliminating threats and guiding whoever else out." She looked away from him, though that did nothing to take away from her observation of him. She listened to his movement, or there lack of, and prepared herself accordingly. "Just like all of them- you do not belong here."
It wasn't pride she spoke with. Instead, it was a cold caution. It did not harbor any aggression, but it also did not radiate any friendliness. Cold, gold eyes glanced back at him, and she took another sniff of the air to make sure she had placed him correctly. It confirmed her prior suspicion, and a low growl started within her chest.
Having a male Zoroark hang around her would be a thorn in her paw. She had no desire to have him around her kit.
Still, he boldly came closer to her, and she did not hesitate to aim at him with her claws to make him back up those few paces he had taken. Her eyes narrowed as she focused her attention on him completely once more, and the air surrounding her grew hostile.
She did not want him near her kit.
"Are you stupid?" she snarled at him. "Leave this area. I don't care what you are- you do not belong in my territory."
"I do not intend to cause you harm…" he repeated those words as he came to a halt a few feet away from her. There was a look of fascination on his face the longer he looked at her, and it bothered her.
She could smell the truth of his words, that he didn't want to hurt her. The look on his face even backed his words up, but she refused to trust him. She couldn't trust him.
She felt Zorua shift from how he was nestled against her hair, and she tensed up a bit to try and catch him before he could jump towards the ground. She watched, her expression unreadable, as he walked steadily up to the stranger across from her.
She wanted to stop him, but she didn't allow herself to move. Her eyes watched the face of the Zoroark across from her, and she found herself frozen in her tracks at spotting the light flashing into his eyes. Her mouth parted slightly when he knelt to pick her kit up. He held him close, and with a gentleness that looked to rival her own.
"If you do not trust me, then how about you trust your young?" He asked her, a small smile coming to rest on his peaceful face. "I go by N. What may I call you?"
Though hesitant, she lowered her head and folded her arms. "Kagome is what I go by," she informed him before glancing back at him and her kit. "My kit is Shippo."
