Here we are - chapter two! To quickly address a review comment, I'm not intentionally setting the story in any one generation. I like all the generations and would prefer to only give small nods to them allowing you all to visualize the one you may prefer to see.

Alone in his room, Simon gazes out the window thinking as he watches the rain patter on the glass. The rain had been falling continuously following wonderfully warm weather just a couple days earlier.

"Typical spring weather," he muttered with a shrug.

He had not seen Brittany since their conversation regarding her new outfit and the upcoming party. The weather being the primary culprit he supposed. A flash of light momentarily brightens the room before the roar of thunder follows a few seconds later, strengthening his assumption.

His mind, having been jugging too many thoughts at once, is in need of a short break and the sound of the rain provides an assist to relax him. That and the thought of Brittany. Her twirling is still fresh in his mind and while he finds the memory quite amusing, it is also a contributing factor to the stress of his cognitive thinking. That, the party, what he was going to wear, and the gadget he is attempting to build. Just fifteen minutes ago he nearly burned his hand soldering a circuit board due to mental distractions.

"There's not much I can do about the party right now. I already agreed to go with Brittany so there's no backing out now. Besides, what's the worst that could happen?"

Potential disasters halfheartedly fill his mind though he bites them back to the best of his capability.

Letting loose a sigh, he decides now is the time to head back into his lab and continue working on his gadget, an automated clothing folder and sorter Alvin nicknamed the 'Clothinator.' While not his coolest invention, he predicts at least a sixty percent drop in the amount of laundry handling time.

Like during the development of his previous gadgets, he has suffered a number of difficulties and setbacks; unfortunately this time the amount of both seems to be quite higher. During his latest test, the machine managed to tie a pair of his pants into a knot instead of neatly folding them. The knot, being so tight, made freeing the legs from one another impossible.

"Seems the Clothinator is living up to its name already," huffed Simon. "Perhaps I can recalibrate the speed of the arms to prevent the primary member from moving faster than the secondary."

Simon retests on another pair of jeans following some quick motor adjustments, and just as the Clothinator appears to function more smoothly, the metal hunk shorts out.

"That's just great."

Unamused by his progress lately, he slumps into his chair.

"What do I keep doing wrong?"

The Chipmunk briefly thinks of potential errors, but tired of dealing with the broken mess, proclaims instead to ignore it until after the party. Maybe his head will be clearer by then.

He planned on meeting up with Brittany soon to discuss his outfit for the party, yet that plan hinges on the weather. The rain continues to pound the roof easily allowing for Simon's thoughts to begin drifting away from the work at hand. Images of the pink-clad Chipette's sparkling sweater and designer skirt fade back into his personal virtual world. The flashes of blue soon follow.

Fancy clothes were never really a surprise with Brittany so why is this outfit so much more vivid in his head than the others? While it looked nice on her, he tends to focus on the important aspects of her behavior such as the way she supports and guides him - to the point and realistic.

Another flash of lighting collides with the light bulb moment occurring in his mind.

"Panties?"

That was the first time he ever spoken that word, even in a whisper to himself, and while it felt just a little naughty, there was something about hearing it that he liked.

While impressed after she asked for his thoughts on her new apparel choice, he concludes blue was the real answer. Blue robbed his mind's innocence. He had never thought of a lady's underwear in any way before that moment and there was no switch he could imagine to correct that.

The Chipmunk's mind settled for a few minutes, slightly defeated by that thought, which allowed his curiosity to rear its head once more.

"Maybe this is not as bad as I am making it out to be. What if I just appeal to the curiosity somehow? Maybe then it will stop bugging me."

Brittany would have the answers he sought, however, there is no way he could bring the topic up without being laughed at or worse, being labeled a freak. A part of him doubted the likelihood of the latter for he viewed Brittany in a higher light though such an outcome could not be ruled out. He feared the possibility of being looked down upon by those close to him.

"No. I can't talk to Brittany. Or her sisters. And especially not Alvin."

What could he do then? As he sat back in his chair, the answer fell in eyesight. The Internet. He quickly opens his laptop and the web browser but stops in his tracks for he has no idea what will appear before him. Despite being aware of the dangers of the online world, he cannot think of another way to find the answers he is looking for so he figures the risk is worth it.

Taking a deep breath, he slowly types the word: p-a-n-t-i-e-s.

Another pause.

"Am I really doing this?"

With a slight shake in his finger, he presses the 'Enter' key generating the results. He slowly reviews the listed pages, still unsure of what to expect.

He loses track of time as he reads article after article, including Wikipedia's page, a detailing of the various types (he could not help but make a one-eyed wince expression at the thong), and an exceedingly interesting blog about why some females do not like the word itself. He tabs over to the images and is wowed by all the variations in color, size, style, design, and curve. He never imagined there would be so many! He continues scrolling until he stumbles upon an image that startles him and he quickly closes the browser before it could be further ingrained in his head.

Back to reality, he spots the sun now shining outside. More than an hour has past since he started and somehow he failed to notice the rain's end.

"Finally."

He needs to see Brittany to figure out his clothing predicament. While he felt a lot of pressure released from his mind, some time is warranted to organize and settle down his mind as the result of his online quest. One question still looms in his inner world and he fears how bad he would want it answered.

Another down. As before, please leave your reviews and thoughts. Go ahead and follow the story as well. :) I'm leaning more towards five chapters so more to come!
