The police had spent every waking moment trying to discern what caused the Sanian Middle School catastrophe. They questioned the children and adults, collected evidence, and even asked around the local neighborhood to see if any of the pieces would come together. Surprisingly nothing came from their investigation even though with livid encouragement from the families of the victims, the investigation had to be dropped. Out of all the families that were livid about the continuation of the investigation, there was one particular family that had been heavily questioned due to the case's circumstances.
The Yuuki family was immediately questioned however, the police and even the family felt the pain of the youngest of the Yuuki family. Yuuki Mikan knew for a fact that her brother was the sole perpetrator of the incident and with that knowledge, she asked the certain individuals that would give her the answers she required. Calling both Saruyama and Haruna, she sat them down and both of them not only gave her the full story but also who or this case what started everything.
After hearing everything Mikan felt rage against her brother's accusers but even with it festering in her heart she could honestly do nothing about it. Her brother had vanished and no one knew where he went; not even Saki with her vast resources and even with the assistance of the Kujou clan's network could they locate him. It was as if Rito had vanished off the face of the earth, and so Mikan fell into a depressive state she would barely eat and anything that previously entertained her was now nothing without her brother.
So now three years later it was now October 16th her brother's birthday, with Rito's absence there was no point in celebrating it but Mikan in her depressing way celebrated. She would lock herself in his room and keep herself there until midnight struck, occasionally she would leave to relieve her body's needs and then return to the refuge of her brother's room. Today was like the previous two birthdays of the past, it would be spent in his room and she would reminisce about the happy times she once shared.

Gazing down upon the planet known as earth most people would deem this planet as underdeveloped or primitive or even a backwater world. However to the man floating above the planet, he saw its great power and even greater potential and smiled, it was all his and he would treat it with the respect that it deserved. However before he could do that he must return home so that his homesickness can be cured, descending down into the planet's surface he quickly made his way back to Japan.
Walking through the streets of his old town he smiled as went forward to his destination, he was so ecstatic to be home that he unintentionally ignored the looks he was getting from the people around him. Some were in awe, some were enraptured, and some questioned the man as he passed by, however, the man in question cared not for them as he made his way home.
Meanwhile, back at the Yuuki household Mikan was lying in her brother's bed she inhaled deeply into her brother's pillow taking in his scent and exhaling through her mouth. Her brother's scent was still strong even with his absence, she had performed this ritual so many times that she has his scent fully memorized. Turning over and looking at the ceiling, she couldn't stop the tears from falling and the sobs and whimpers that followed behind.
She missed him so much, he was the one person who kept her from loneliness; the one person she was happy to come home to even when her parents were off doing their own thing. Now however without him here the place was nothing more than an empty building, she contemplating on leaving and possibly staying with her father several times but she could never leave this place behind.
As she curled up into a ball she suddenly heard the door open, this didn't bother her however since there were only a few number of people with keys to this house the people, in particular, were Rito's closest friends who she was familiar with. Ignoring the sounds of footsteps she continued sobbing, the door had opened and the footsteps had gradually gotten closer and suddenly stopped as the bed sunk down and a hand reached out wiping her tears away with a finger.
The familiarity of the scent had hit her nose and her eyes had widened, the tears had stopped flowing as she quickly turned around almost leaping as she stared at the person. The tears had returned as the boy grabbed her and pulled her into his now much broader chest.
"It's been far too long sis, so please dry your tears. You know I hate seeing you cry." The tears didn't stop but they were happy tears. She embraced him with all of her being and sniffled pulling the snot that tried to leak from her nose.
"I missed you so much, where have you been onii-chan you big dummy!" She was lifted with the utmost delicacy by Rito and he fully wrapped her in his body. Her arms were around his neck and her head was underneath his chin, he calmly stroked her hair loving the feeling it brought to his fingers and inhaled deeply.
Yep this was his sister alright, smelling faintly of her namesake; moving some hair away from her forehead, he kissed it and she looked up at his eyes which had gotten deeper in its shade.
"Are you hungry, Rito?"
"Yes, I am I have been looking forward to your cooking for quite some time." She cleaned her face up and smiled at him getting up from his lap.
"Well then in celebration of your return I am going to cook a feast!"
"Do you want it to just be me and you or can I invite my friends?"
"I don't mind at all, they did their best helping me through my depression. Plus they will be so ecstatic to know you are back!" Nodding his head at his sister's excitement he let out a chuckle.
"Very well I shall invite them over."
Mikan ran out of the room and out towards the kitchen, Rito let out a sigh and looked out the window to the winter clouds that covered the sky. He smiled leaving out of the room, turning off the light and closing the door; he made his way to the living room and sat down on the couch. Grabbing the remote from the coffee table he turned on the TV and just watched whatever came on it, which was Magical Girl Kyoko-chan.
Leaning back he heard a small beep as his sister returned to him, she went over and kissed him on the cheek.
"Aw, what was that for?" She walked around and laid down in his lap, grabbing his hand she held it with a strong grip while giving it a tight squeeze. Rito's free hand had gone over and pet his sister's head.
"A welcome back kiss is what that was." He lightly chuckled and looked at the TV screen with a grin.
"Thanks Mikan for having a home for me to come to."
They settled on the couch for a short time being interrupted by the doorbell, Mikan gets up and turns around stretching her hand out to her brother. Taking it they made their way to the door and looked to see their extended family all smiling and some with tears in their eyes; Yuuki Rito was home.
