(Winter POV)
I don't know about this. Angel may think this was a good idea, and I trust him I do, but too many people have hurt and used us in the past I can't bring myself to trust anyone. I wasn't lying when I told him I was scared. If anything, I was completely terrified.
As we got closer I hid behind Angel as much as I could. I grabbed the back of his cloak, so I didn't have to look up to see where he was going as he opened the door. My ears were assaulted by the sound of laughter, and arguments that sounded more like friendly banter.
"Hey!" A loud voice suddenly called. "I've never seen you before. What are ya lookin' to join fairy tail?"
"Shut up Natsu! Why you gotta be so loud!?" Another, annoyed, voice yelled.
A can feel Angel move and assume he's nodding.
"Really now? A new member?" This voice was quieter. Probably from an old man. "What's your name?"
From what I can tell no one has seen me yet, and part of me wants to keep it that way. I would have stayed hidden if not for the silence that followed. I knew Angel has signed his name, and probably told them about me too, but no one understood.
"Angel." I said poking my head out from behind him. I saw all eyes turn to me and shrunk away slightly, blushing. "His name is Angel. I'm Winter."
"Oh." Says the loud one, a guy with pink hair that looks to be fighting a guy whose...only wearing boxers? "So, there's another one?"
"Angel and Winter huh?" the old man asks from his place on top of the bar. "What makes you want to join fairy tail?"
Angel looks back at me, stepping aside a bit so my hiding place is gone. I glare at him slightly as he motions to me asking if I'll translate. "And why should I?" I growl slightly, and the others look on in confusion.
Please. They can't understand me and I need you to explain. He signs looking at me pleadingly
"No." I reply crossing my arms. "it was your idea to come here you explain it without me."
How do you suggest I do that?
"I don't know. Find a pen and paper or something."
But this'll be too long for me to write and everybody read it.
"whatever, fine but I'm only translating for you and nothing else."
When I finally look back up at everyone I jump realizing they had been watching us. Most, if not all, of them looked at us with a mix of confusion and amusement. I blushed even more than I had been and slowly crept back a bit until I hit the door behind me. I put my head down to avoid looking at them and watched Angels hands from the corner of my eye. Before he Could get started I scurried over and leaned to his ear, standing on my toes, and whispered. "Shouldn't we talk to the Guild master alone. I don't know if everyone here should know just yet. As it is I don't know if we can even trust him let alone everyone else."
Angel gives me a look. The look he always gives me when he wants to reassure me. I know he wants to tell them, to trust them, but I can't. I need to know he's okay. I need to know they won't take him away from me before we let them know. He's my brother. The only person who ever cared. I can't lose him to this. I pulled on his sleeve slightly and gave him a pleading look. I know the others are watching us, but I don't care.
Fine he signs with a sigh.
He walks over to the guild master, with me still hanging on his arm. I could hear whispers around us as people pointed. I don't like this. Being surrounded by people I don't know. Angel was always the more confident one. We stopped right in front of the guild master. He signed something and looked at me, as if expecting me to translate.
With a small sigh I nod and whisper, hopefully loud enough for the master to hear and no one else. "Can we talk to you alone please?"
He studies us for a few minutes before nodding slightly. "Come with me." he says leading up the stairs to a small office, at least that's what it looks like.
I can hear the others muttering louder as we get up there and start closing the door. I let out a very audible sigh of relief as we're alone with only one stranger. But then I remember this man is a guild master and could easily crush the both of us. Then I stiffen again slightly as I see him just standing there watching us.
"you wanted to talk alone. We're alone now talk." He said seemingly bitter now. I couldn't help the squeak that left me. "when most people want to speak alone it's usually not good." He says gentler.
Angel nodded before tapping my shoulder, so I looked up. I frowned before looking at his hands and began translating.
"we heard you were different then most guilds. You don't want just power, and you don't seem to care too much about what someone's like as long as they aren't just pure evil. We need somewhere to go. Somewhere that won't turn its back on us. Or separate us."
Angel seemed to stop. He was staring at the floor. His eyes glazed over and sad. He was remembering the last time we tried to join anyone. what they did. A small shiver found its way down my spine as I glanced at the old man. He was sitting there thoughtfully watching us. When it seemed that Angel was going to say no more, at the moment. He stood up on his desk.
"what is it that makes no one want you? What makes you so afraid I'll turn you away or separate you?"
Angel looked at me as if asking permission. When I nodded he let out a soft breath before reaching for the tie of his cloak. With a quick movement it fell to the ground. His giant black and red angel wings flared out, finally free of their confines, before they wrapped themselves around his body. I always thought it was funny when he did that. As if the wings were hugging him. Then he moved his hands out from under his wings and starts moving again.
"I'm not human. I don't know what I am. They don't like me. They try to take Winter from me. Tried to hurt him when he wanted to protect me. I can't let that happen again. Please. Please let us stay here, we will do whatever we need to, but please."
"enough!" the old man said before we could continue. "I have heard enough." He said quieter. He moved off the desk and walked towards us. Before I could stop myself, I jumped and moved behind Angel. "you don't need to be afraid of me young one." His voice was gentle, as if talking to a frightened animal. I guess that's what I am in a way. "I would never turn my back on someone who needs help."
There was silence for a minute as he watched up. I looked at angel. Waiting for his hands to move, waiting for him to tell me what to say. But he didn't move his hands. He opened his mouth instead. I could see them shaking. Hear the hesitation in his voice. "w-w-we…can...s-s-st-stay?" you could tell just by listening he doesn't talk a lot, or at all really. He's a very selective mute. It's extremely rare for him to talk to anyone…even me.
The old man looked at us before nodding and giving us a wide smile. "welcome to fairy tail."
