This conversation was a lot harder than the first one, but I hope you guys like it.
After The Mile High Job
"I swear, the Pigeon Drop is the one on the street."
"Absolutely not, that is the Melon Drop. The Pigeon Drop is the investment con, it was never a street con."
"Ok maybe, but who the hell names these anyway?"
"Definitely an American."
"I'm pretty sure that the Melon Drop is from Japan."
Both women laughed into their phones.
"Sophie, why did you call me?"
"I told you, I had a question about a con. Nate was arguing with me about it."
"How is the whole Nate thing going?"
"You know it was rough for a bit there. We had a job at a wedding and I could have torn his head off, but he is really good. You know when he was chasing me, I knew it could never happen because he was married. But he is so romantic, in ways that you don't expect, and when we talk about those old days, it feels like it was all leading to what we are working towards now. It is all just perfect."
Sophie found herself pacing as she divulged things that made her stomach feel like butterflies.
"Wow, that whole Robin Hood thing MUST be good for you."
"Yeah, I guess so."
Tara couldn't help but think back to that night in Paris.
"Do think that this might just be a mid-life crisis, I mean you quit conning and now your going around like some-some superhero?"
"Are you saying that I'm old enough to have mid-life crisis?"
"You are super old."
"Bugger off."
Even over the phone, Tara could tell that Sophie was smiling.
"I'm just in a really good place right now."
"I believe you, I could just never join a crew like yours. It is insane that some of the best thieves in the world have practically retired."
"I'm still in the game."
"Sure."
Sophie herself couldn't believe that she was in this position, and falling in love with Nathan Ford nevertheless, but she would never admit that to Tara.
"I am happy for you, though."
"Thank you."
"Alright, call me if you feel like being bad."
"I am plenty bad."
"Well, you know what I mean."
"Goodbye Tara."
"Talk to you later."
