A Girl Named Kagome

Summary: Kagome is not what you would call a delicate flower; on the contrary, she was quite rough around the edges, a tomboy by description. Always quick to be asked out due to her looks, but quick to be dumped due to her personality, she never thought that her dearest friend of nine years and roommate would be the one to capture her heart, and change her from tomboy to flower.

Recite...My Recital

Kagome looked nervously around the closed heavy white velvet curtains. It was a bit of a habit of hers, peering at the audience to see if Shuusuke was there, or if he was late, or forgot...which, he never did. She was pleased to find him dressed in a nice black Armani suit in the reserved seat in the front row. To her shock, he wasn't alone. Not that she didn't know the young man next to him, but it was rare that he showed up for such long and boring things. Kagome caught the blue eyes of her friend who had opened his eyes just to meet hers. Smiling, she gave a nervous wave.

"Are you ready, Higurashi-San?"

Shaking off her nerves, Kagome turned and faced the woman behind her. "I'm ready, I just hate the before feeling I get every performance."

"Your boyfriend is here, isn't he?"

Kagome hated the woman who stood in front of her, beyond any words of comprehension could explain, she was an annoying and irresponsible adult that left a horrible taste in Kagome's mouth every time she talked to her.

"He's so handsome,"

This was exactly why such an aftertaste existed. The woman was a few steps away from being a cougar. "I'm going to go check my appearance real quick. How much time do I have?" She questioned a young man with a watch, clipboard and earpiece.

"Three minutes, be quick, you are the opening performance this evening."

Kagome ran to the prep room backstage and grabbed a water bottle out of the small fridge in the room before making her way to the mirror and checking over her appearance. Fanning her flushed cheeks, she cursed softly under her breath. It was always like this, she got so nervous before a performance, and by the time she was on stage, she was calm and collected, and did awesome...but hell, the first two hours of prep before the performance sucked! "Alright! Let's do this, Kagome!" She said to herself, taking a quick drink of her water as she left the room and made her way to the guy by the curtain. He took her water bottle and nodded her forward before nodding to the man in the center of the stage.

"On behalf of the Neo Japan Concert Hall, and Kyushu Recreational Academy, we welcome you to the Kyushu Spring Concerto Competition. This time around, the finalist will receive a year trip to Switzerland and be guided and instructed by Piano Master Krystian Zimerman. Before we get started with our first performance, I would like to request everyone silence their phones, and be courteous to our performers during their recitals. Now...without further ado, welcome to the stage, Higurashi, Kagome...with Chopin's Nocturne Number 1 Opus 9." The announcer and benefactor in charge of the competition clapped along with the audience as he walked off the stage and patted Kagome on the head before she walked out and the Curtain began to rise behind her. She was in the center of the stage before she faced the crowed and bowed with a soft smile on her lips. Turning away from the crowed, she stepped up to the expensive Ebony Yamaha Grand Piano.

Stepping in front of the bench, she ran her hand down the back of the bottom of her unique fit and flare dress that was made of black floral lace and sheer chiffon, her black lace sleeves went all the way to her knuckles, slightly longer than they needed to be, but she liked them that way. It was one of many recital dresses she owned, and her favorite because of the structure and design on the skirt that made the flare skirt twirl really well. Sitting down gently on the fabric of her dress, she tossed her long black hair that Shuusuke had spent an hour on earlier, putting in large and loose curls that gave her an elegant and beautiful look as they clung to different parts of her.

Closing her eyes, she took a breath, then...her long, and elongated fingers began dancing slowly in a hauntingly secretive and seductive dance across the keyboard. A rhythmic freedom characterized Chopin's Nocturne, as the song grew more melodic during the middle section where the notes contrasted dramatically with what the beginning was, thrumming heavy brandishes of notes and tones that echoed through the concert hall and lifted the hairs on the back of the necks of her audience.

Her fingers danced dangerously along the keys, heart pounding notes were meticulously weaved in and out of the song. Then a precious flow of melody...gently lulling the audience into a state of tranquility as it returned in a graceful motion back to its seductively sweet sound that had captivated her audience from the start. The last note played through the hall before fading.

"That was Higurashi, Kagome," The announcer's voice brought her out of the dreamy state that came from her performances, she stood as a loud round of applause erupted from those sitting in the concert hall, a few high pitched cat calls and shouts caused her to blush, but she bowed respectfully all the same. "With a beautiful delivery of Chopin's Nocturne Number 1 Opus 9...give it up one more time for Higurashi-San."

Kagome made her way off the stage, her cheeks flushed as the man standing at the curtain held out her water bottle. "Can I join my friends in the audience until the end of the recitals?"

He glanced at the clipboard and nodded, "there are several recitals after you, here is the program for the Competition, when the last performer walks out on stage, you should return and get ready for the judging."

"Alright, I understand. Thank you!" She smiled, sneaking away from the others, she crouched down and ran in front of the front row to the seats where Shuusuke and his friend sat. A seat on the other side of Shuusuke had yet to be occupied. She smiled when he held his hand out to her, taking it as she sat down beside him, she smiled happily. "I'm so glad I'm done!"

"You did great. How are you feeling?" Shuusuke leaned in to talk to her without disturbing those around them. The next performer had already made their way to the center of the stage and would be preforming soon.

"Good...flustered, but good. Eiji," Kagome leaned forward and smiled at the grinning red head beside her roommate.

"Kagome-Chan! That was amazing, nya~!"

Kagome blushed but thanked him all the same, "I was surprised to see you here, but I'm glad you came. Will you join Shuusuke and I for dinner after the Competition?"

"Sure!"

Kagome smiled and sat back against the chair before turning her attention back to the rest of the recitals. She wasn't concerned, not to say she didn't want to get the trip to Switzerland, but she was confident enough that she didn't feel it necessary to worry. Her previous awards spoke for themselves after all. She would just have to wait and see how things turned out. Glancing down at the program, she closed her eyes, 'eight more to go,' she thought to herself as the second competitor bowed and left the stage after the room gave into a soft patter of their hands. 'Für Elise...way to over used. You would have thought she'd choose something that would leave a more lasting impression.' Kagome closed her eyes and let the announcers voice, drift through her ears, taking in the many melodies of the competition as she laid her head on Shuusuke's shoulder. She would just rest awhile until she had to return behind the curtain. Just for...a little while...
