Syla walked into the entrance of the one story house, (well there was one room that required stairs but it was small,)

"Mom!" she called out, no response, not an uncommon thing, "Mama!" she yelled out wondering if her other parent was home, still no response, even less uncommon. She ran to the one set of stairs in the massive house and ran up them, it lead to a small room that no one really knew about, her parents knew she came up but why was a total mystery to them, however what it really was was a small room filled with fairy lights, pillows and books, well records. At first it had started as a hidey place, she had only lived with them since she was five, quickly however it had just turned into a private place, where she studied peoples records, she was trying to find, someone, well someone who she was biologically related to.

Something clicked as the front door opened,

"Hello!" yelled a voice that sounded like her mom's voice,

"Hi!" she yelled back running down the stairs, who she was met by was not her mom but, a slightly shorter version of her mom, with slightly less curly hair, and no cape, her mom's sister Renée, "Oh you're not my mom,"

"Nope, but I have food, and adult supervision," she informed her, "neither of them will be home until past when you're supposed to be asleep, so I am here,"

"Okay, I'll be upstairs," Syla responded.

Syla and Renée ate dinner about an hour later than earlier, which meant by the time they were finished Syla was supposed to be in bed and her mama was already home, however she didn't comment on the time, just quickly gave Renée a look and Renée and her went in to the other room,

"Sony…. pendant… gone," was all she heard of their conversation. They both came back into kitchen where Syla was still sitting a the kitchen island, drinking some water.

"You should be in bed," her mama pointed out, Syla ran off to go change into pyjamas.

Syla finished the fruit salad just in time to get to Foxfire with enough time to talk to Ophelia and Brandy. She needed to tell them about the fact that her mom was gone last night, and now was still not there the next morning, which was unusual, to say the least. Syla pulled out her light leaping crystal and sparkled to foxfire.

Syla ran up to Ophelia who was putting stuff in her locker,

"Okay so weird thing, my mom wasn't home last night and this morning she was still gone, and my mama was talking to my aunt Renée last night and all I heard was, Sony, pendant, gone," Syla told her, Ophelia looked at her concerned,

"Okay same thing happened with my mom, and my dad seemed scared all morning," Ophelia responded, "weren't they both on a mission from the council?" she asked, Syla nodded, suddenly remembering that, "Scout left with my mom, he wasn't there either," Syla looked at her,

"You don't think they meant registry pendant do you? I just thought they meant her wedding pendant, that maybe she had lost it and was looking for it or something, but if your mom was gone too…"

"Wait," said Brandy coming up behind Ophelia, "Your Mom's were gone so was Danna, my mom and dad were freaking out, the council promised she'd be safe, but her registry pendant was just gone," Brandy explained, the three of them looked at each other concerned. The daily announcements started,

"There is literally nothing for me to tell you, other than the fact that, Ophelia Skye, Syla Concer and Zachary and Brandy, I don't know what last name your using right now, need to come to the office," said Magnate Leto before his face disappeared again. The three looked at eachother again.

When Syla got to the office her mama was there, as well as Ophelia's dad, and Brandy's parents, Brandy's brother Zachery trudged in a minute later,

"We're sending the four if you home early today, your parents will explain why," Magnate Leto told them, "Your mentors all know already, you're dismissed,"

Syla sat across from her mama at the kitchen island, she picked at the custard burst in front of her, they were store bought so they weren't the best in the first place, and they were about a week old so they were starting to go stale. Not a very appetizing snack, especially not since her mama was definitely still waiting to tell her something, and there was still an ominous lack of her mom. Her mama took a deep breath,

"Syla, yesterday night your mom's registry pendant signal disappeared, which only happens if there broken or if your brain activity stops." her mama explained obviously holding back tears. Syla looked at her unsure of what to do,

"So you think it broke right?" Syla asked, her mama shook her head,

"Syla she's gone," Syla shook her head,

"She can't be," she whispered, "it has to be broken, we can't just give up,"

"Syla all the other pendants were gone too, I know it's hard and it's going to be hard for both of us without her but,"

"No! Maybe someone took them all, they were in the forbidden cities weren't they, humans are like crows, they love shiny things and they break everything, I mean crows don't break everything but there damn annoying that's what they are just like humans, humans are crows point proven!" She stormed off to the attic and didn't come down until she had to.

Syla looked at the long green dress her mama had picked out for her,

"What do you think she'd say if she hadn't been on the mission?" Syla asked, her mama smiled a bit.

"She'd probably start rambling about germs," she responded, Syla didn't think about germs much, it was always her mom, she had hand sanitizer all the time, carried around gloves incase they were needed, and washed her hands constantly. Now germs were all Syla could think about, about not only how there were a million germs on her, but possibly a million germs breaking down her mom's body. She looked into her mom's purse, still sitting on the counter where she had left it. She grabbed the hand sanitizer and rubbed her hands without complaint for once, it made it feel like she was still behind her,

'Syla do you know how many germs are there? Enough to get you sick!' she would have said something like that, and her mama would have rolled her eyes, and Syla would have rolled her eyes but been glad to have someone looking out for her, because now she would have to put on her own hand sanitizer. She slipped it in her pocket, she would have buy some. She didn't want to use all of her mom's up. After all, she was coming back, she would need it. For now she would keep it safe, just in case she didn't.

"Do you remember when you started talking again?" her mama asked, Syla nodded, there had been a few months when she first moved in with her mom and her mama when she hadn't talked to them. Then one day they had all went to a forest, (so much hand sanitizer had been used that day,) and her and her mama gotten lost and found a frog,

"I like frogs," Syla whispered, her mama had looked at her wide eyed she started smiling a lot and her eyes began brimming with tears,

"Yeah me too," she said,

"Mama do you think we should get back now?" Syla asked, her mama had nodded, responding surprisingly quickly to the new name, they had never discussed what she would call both of them, after a while of searching they had found the clearing again,

"Where were you?" asked her mom.

"We got lost and found a nice frog," Syla explained, her mom had looked at her for a moment,

"Well that's new," she pointed out,

"No, frogs are usually nice, there's a lot of them by the pond at home actually," her mom laughed,

"I meant the talking,"

"Oh," realised Syla,

"Mama," she said looking over at her, her mama looked over at her, "Can we get some hand sanitizer after?" her mama nodded. Usually her mama's response would have been something along the lines of 'oh gosh, Sony she caught the germ phobia'.

Syla sat in a circle with Brandy and Ophelia after the funeral, the adults were talking so they had been sent off.

"You guys don't think there dead either do you?" Ophelia asked, her and Brandy shook their head, "then I think we should do something,"
