Many things ran through the young teen's mind as he walked with Anzu.
"Why does this have to happen now? Why couldn't it have waited until we were done with high school? I mean that is when everyone goes their separate ways, right? ...Will I ever see her again?" His cheeks felt hot.
He somehow made it through the rest of the school day. History and Science seemed to drag on. After school he walked with Anzu, Tristan, and Joey to Subzero to get some smoothies. Normally they went to Subzero on fridays, but today was a unique occasion.
The four sat around a circular table outside under a big red umbrella. Music was playing quietly in the background from outside speakers.
"So, Have you guys found a house in San Diego yet", asked Joey, trying to make small talk.
"Yes we have, actually. Anzu seemed to lighten up at the though. It's really nice, it's kinda hidden from all the big city traffic so it should be fairly quiet. Despite all of this I am very excited to move."
"That's good", Tristan commented, taking a sip from his strawberry swirl. Yugi sighed.
"So when are you guys leaving"? His expression pained.
"Um..well the plan was to leave the saturday after school let out."
"...That soon?" All their eyes widened.
She nodded.
"If you need help with moving or anything..." Tristan offered.
"Thanks Tristan."
"Hey count me in too", Joey added.
*vibrations* Tristan got his phone out. "Oh, that's right I have a hair appointment in ten minutes! Tristan started to get up to leave. Thanks for the fun today guys."
"I should probably get going too, I've gotta work on my homework before practice tonight," said Joey. Both waved back to Yugi and Anzu.
"Bye Guys"!
Yugi rested his head in his hands on the table. "...So this is my last week with her, I'm happy for her, I really am. She'll be able to go out and enjoy new things...so why does it hurt so much"?
Anzu looked at him from across the table slightly concerned. "Is...everything okay? When he didn't answer she half shouted, ...Earth to Yugi!"
Yugi jumped a little in surprise and came back to reality. "Huh...oh, yeah everything's fine", he said with a forced smile.
"Okay, good. You just seem to be a little zoned out lately."
"Sorry, I've got a lot on my mind."
"What's bothering you? Do you wanna talk about it"?
He thought about taking this opportunity. It was just the two of them, alone. "I'm going to have to tell her sometime, anyway. So why not now"? He worked up some confidence but was short lived by a white Infinity that pulled up by them. Anzu got up, "my ride's here, Yugi. Do you want to get a ride home with me"?
"Sure, thanks Anzu."
After dinner with his grandpa, he retired to his room. He laid on his bed and stared up at his bedroom ceiling. "I've got to let her know...at least before she leaves," he said to himself. Turning to look at the clock, he sighed and turned out the lights after reading 10:14.
Not a very exciting chapter, I know. But things will pick up in the next few. Hope you have liked it so far! Review and let me know how I'm doing! -DMJ
