I fumbled backwards in shock. An egg?! I could've sworn I was just a little girl...there was no way I could be a bird! No way could I be pregnant either! I shakily reached out to touch the blue shell. As soon as I did, I instantly retracted my hand, afraid that something totally bezonkers would happen. However, nothing occurred, so I hesitantly picked it up, now cradling it in my hands. I stared silently at the design. It was a light, almost faded blue. Frilly lace circled it twice. On the egg itself appeared to be some form of glitter or sparkle. I was studying it so intently when I suddenly heard my mother's voice.
"Miki! Are you done yet?!" She shouted from the bottom of the stairs.
"A-almost!" I replied, although I was nowhere near ready! I threw on the uniform like there was no tomorrow, arranged my hair in my usual style, which was all of my hair down except for a lock that was pulled into a side ponytail, and, after going to war with the other half of my brain over this decision, I shoved the egg into a small pouch in my backpack. I rocketed down the stairs and, before I knew it, I rushed out of the house with a piece of toast in my mouth, smeared with strawberry preserves. When I managed to make it to school, there was a crowd huddled at the front of the entrance. Curiosity got ahead of me, and I pushed through the crowd to find the source of the commotion. When I reached the center, I was befuddled. What was so surprising about a bunch of other kids?!
"Look, it's Tadase-kun!" I heard a girl shriek behind me as she pointed to a young boy with blonde hair and ruby red pupils. His uniform shorts and hairstyle made him appear as a loli.
"Ahh! Nagi!" the next fangirl appeared to be talking about the boy with long hair that had a dark, purple hue. He appeared to be quite mature as he strode with pride in every step.
"Miss Cool-n-Spicy!" a boy shouted as he waved to a girl with pink hair that stopped at her shoulders. Her vivid yellow eyes contrasted immensely with her hair, making her stand out from the group. Her book bag was slung over her shoulder as she distributed glares of indifference to onlookers.
"Rima-chan! Yaya-chan!" a group screamed to a loli with long, light brown hair-almost as long as mine- and a girl with two pigtails and big red ribbons, giving her the appearance of a baby.
I stared at the group in awe, not noticing that the chatter had gone down. When I did, I found out their reasoning for doing so: the group was headed in my direction. While looking around to make sure that I wasn't mistaken, the grouped eagerly shoved through the crowd and easily reached me.
"Good morning, Takanou-san," the boy with blonde hair spoke ever-so-politely.
"H-how do you know me? What do you want?" I inched backwards, resorting to defense.
"That's 'cause we're the student council, and we're here to give you a tour of this flawless campus!" The girl known as Yaya stated with a flourish of her arms.
"Unfortunately," the mature boy known as Nagi spoke up, "our schedule yesterday was booked, and we could not afford to squeeze you in. However, we would like to make up for it and provide you with a tour and introduction today."
The very moment he finished his statement, the school bell resounded throughout the grounds of the campus, signaling that the scheduled time for announcements had dawned on us. The onlookers reluctantly, yet obediently, filed in to the auditorium. The so-called student council followed suit.
"Will you please follow us, Takanou-san?" the boy named Tadase asked courteously once again. As much as I yearned to rudely decline, I had to head in the same direction, so I unwillingly dragged my feet behind them. When we had reached our destination, the student council had pulled e backstage, failing to explain their reasoning in doing so. Tadase walked triumphantly towards the podium and began the morning announcements. I watched in admiration as he spoke effectively and fluently, not stumbling over the words that came out of his mouth. He spoke diligently with a friendly grin, and I could've sworn that I felt the warmth that he seemed to be projecting from his every movement. But, that warmth and tenderness shattered when he asked me to come upstage.
"As many of us know, we have received a transfer student. Miki Takanou, will you kindly come upstage for an introduction?" My legs refused the commends from my brain and stood up. I felt as though I was glued to the floor. My body began to shake uncontrollably. Against my own will, Yaya gently shoved me, and my body shifted forward and continued to do so until I was standing directly next to the podium. I tried to search for words that would seem appropriate for such an occasion. However, I had no time for this, and I suddenly found myself mumbling words.
"U-um...Hey...I'm Miki...I-I'm kinda new here, I guess...n-nice to meet you all!" After realizing what I had been saying, I shouted my last phrase and quickly ended my speech by bowing my upper torso. There was complete silence...until I heard a snicker...and another...which led to the entire auditorium bellowing with laughter. I kept my torso down, nearly on the verge of tears when the so-called "Miss Cool-n-Spicy" stood up and bashed her hands onto the edges of the podium.
"Stop! It's not funny! What you did was very rude and unacceptable! If you're brave enough to laugh at her face, are you brave enough to admit that you were one of the people that laughed?!" The entire auditorium became silent until Tadase cleared his throat.
"Please allow us to continue the announcements..." he stated before he carried on with whatever he had to say. In the meantime, The pink-haired girl gently grasped me by the shoulders.
"Hey, you alright...?" I wanted to answer, but if I did, I swore that the tears would spill. I could hold them no longer, so I escaped her grasp and dashed out of the auditorium, out of the school, leaving them in shock and silence. I ran as far as I could possibly could, my book bag slapping against my hip in the same rhythm as my pace. I tripped unexpectedly and fell to my knees, gasping desperately for oxygen. once I had my fair share of air, I looked up the see that I was in a vacant field, blanketed with soft, vividly green grass, and a few trees jutted from the ground. I stood up and paced around, kicking the grass with every other step. I mumbled complaints about my life to the air, whisking through the grass, whisking through the trees.
"Nothing good has ever happened to me. My dad's dead, I have no friends, and I've been mistreated by people. It's no fair!" I shouted as I shoved my foot into the dirt even harder. "Everybody else bets to live happily...lucky" The moment I muttered that last word, I felt my book back shift around. I turned my gaze to it...and it shuffled even more violently. In fear, I practically did a flip trying to get away. It continued the move around until the little blue egg had escaped from its pouch. It hovered silently and I watched it in awe...until I heard a slight cracking noise. I saw that the egg had a decently large crack, which continued to extend until it had circulated the egg. Once it did, the shell vanished into thin air, leaving behind a trail of sparkles, now slowing fading away. Finally, all I could see was a small fairy-like creature without wings. It, or rather she, had curly blonde hair which was pulled into pig tail with the help of two bows, possessed by a periwinkle hue. Her eyes were an innocent blue, and she had a white, frilly, laced choker. Her dress was also periwinkle and had frills on the hems. The sleeves were that of a kimono: long and flowing.
"Hi! My name is Melody, and I'm your Guardian Character!"
