Chapter 2

I pushed my way through the crowded sidewalk, struggling to hold on to my oxygen tank. I dragged the cart behind me, but I got tangled up, and tripped on the sidewalk. Just when I thought my face would meet the pavement, somebody caught me.

"Good thing I got here when I did."

I looked up and became face to face with Auggie. "What are you doing here? Did you follow me?"

He smirked. "Maybe. I couldn't leave you alone in the big city."

"You don't think I can take care of myself?" I asked him.

He pulled me upright again. "It's not that, I just felt obligated to. Like somebody told me it was the right thing to do."

"Following me like a stalker is considered The right thing to do?"

He laughed. "I saved you didn't I?"

"The worst thing that could've happened to me was a bruise on my face, which, in a way, you did save me from."

"See?" he smirked.

"Fine. It is good, because I'm lost."

"What does that have to do with me?" he asked.

"You can help me." I explained.

"I know Indiana like the front of my hand." he said proudly.

"Isn't it, the back of your hand?" I asked.

"I look at the front of my hand way more than I look at the back. Besides, it's more fun that way." Auggie said.

I laughed. "Alright, help me find my house."

"Okay, I will. Okay?"

I hesitated. What he didn't know wouldn't kill him. "Okay."

After thirty minutes of searching the backstreets of Indianapolis, we found my neighborhood.

He walked me to my door. By then, it was almost sunset. "Thanks again."

"Totally fine." he said. "Goodnight, Hazel."

"Goodnight Auggie." I said.

"Before I go, I was just wondering, if maybe you would accompany me to the movies Saturday afternoon?"

I bit my lip. First his name was August, then following me, was this a sign of some sort. "I don't know Auggie…for all I know, you could be some crazy murderer or something."

He laughed. "What do you say? As friends."

"Fine. How can I say no?" I grinned.

"Cool. I'll pick you up at three?"

"Okay." I said.

"Okay."
