Chapter 2 Revamp! Chapter 3 Coming soon!
A dark haired mermaid swam slowly into the royal throne room of the underwater castle. Her body language showed all her emotions, those of anger, worry, and hate. The mermaid came to a sharp halt in front of a hard faced mermaid with a golden crown braided into her blue black hair. She was the ruler of the Sea Kingdom and she was BlackSun and Kori's mother.
It was said that after her husband was killed that her heart turned colder then the sea itself. Queen Vocluna was cruel and enjoyed torture and also meddled with black magic. On occasion she held audiences with a group of Sea Hags. Her subjects now were petrified of her, they feared the very thought of being summoned to the castle.
The Queen did not look pleased to see her oldest daughter empty handed. "Am I to assume that you do not have your sister, and have failed me, Black Sun?" Vocluna said bitterly.
The dark haired mermaid glared up at her mother. "What was your first clue!?" BlackSun asked statistically.
"DO NOT, take that tone with me!" yelled Vocluna, causing BlackSun to wince at the pain of the mental attack. Vocluna pushed herself out of her throne and moved closer to BlackSun. "Explain yourself!"
Black Sun crossed her arms as she lowered herself to rest on a stone chair nearby. "She is no longer in the sea, the little idiot chose to dry out on land."
"SHE WHAT!?" Vocluna screeched. Anger was evident in her body language and her face as she stared at her oldest.
"Do I need to speak slower for you mother?" Black Sun didn't see Vocluna move before she felt a sharp slap a crossed her face, which knocked her to the side.
She turned her back on Black Sun as she said, "She is on the island, we just have to wait until she returns to the water." Vacluna turned back to her daughter. "What is there up there anyway? I give her 2 days." She said with an evil grin on her face.
"I would not be so sure. I saw Humans ships. They may take her." Black Sun moved back to the rock glaring at her mother's back, wanting nothing more then to scratch her eyes out. "Why do we really even need her?!"
Vocluna turned to face her daughter, the smile gone from her face, replaced with surprise. "Humans?! Your sure?" Vocluna sounded worried by this not out of worry for Kori that would be ridiculous but worry that they may keep Kori for themselves. "Have you forgotten that she is needed for the ritual?! Or would you rather replace her in it?!" Vocluna asked with a soured face.
"Yes, I saw the ships and the boats heading to the island." At the mention of the ritual, BlackSun did not want to serve as replacement. "No, I do not. I will go and bring her back to you." She moved to leave but stopped as her mother spoke to her again.
"I would hurry if I were you." The Queen's voice was oh so sweet now. "You do not have the time to dally, or it will be you that takes her place."
"I will return before the next full moon." With that BlackSun was gone. She would collect her sister and she would return with her, but BlackSun had her own plans for the ritual.
On board the Ship, Robin had taken the girl to his quarters. Some of his men did not react well to the new passenger. They had said that it was mighty bad luck to bring a woman on board the ship. Robin informed them that they could keep their superstitions to themselves. Robin had sent Stone to get the bandages and things he needed to clean and dress her wounds, while he placed her on his bed.
Laying her gently down, Robin tried to find some sort of clothes that they could put her in after they saw to her injuries. Finding nothing in his room that would do, he left to find something in the hull of the ship. It seemed hopeless but then he found a trunk that belonged to his sister that had been left aboard.
Stone was already in the Captain's quarters when Robin returned, he had covered the girl with a sheet as best he could and still have access to her injures. Closing the door behind him, Robin held a simple dress that had stumbled across. It wasn't much but it was clean and would do til they reached home. "She hasn't stirred?" Robin asked.
Stone shook his head. "No, she has not moved since I arrived. Someone has done a fair job causing her injury. It is good that it is all blister and nothing too serious, save the cut to her hip, that I will need to put the needle to." Stone took a seat by the bed and began to clean the wound before sewing it up.
"That they have." Robin placed the dress at the foot of the bed. "Did the men find any signs of others on the island?"
"No and the island is small enough that they would have ran into someone had there been." Stone didn't look up, his trained eyes focused on this task.
Robin just gave a nod. "I see... Then we will not be taking her away from anything."
This actually caused Stone to look up with an eyebrow raised. "You mean to take her with us, then?"
"I see no reason not too. She could be ship wreaked, or something of the like." Robin looked from Stone to the girl who now slept on his bunk. "The girl will have to tell us once she wakes."
"Aye. Those Pirates still in these waters, she would not be safe." Stone returned to his work as he spoke. They had disabled the ship and left the remaining me on the ship, without their weapons to aid them in another attack. "The sooner we are home the better I will feel."
"As will I!" Robin agreed, crossing his arms as he oversaw Stone's work. He knew he wanted to be there for when the girl woke and get her tale from her. Something made him want to know her, Robin didn't know why either. The next few hours were definitely going to test his patience.
The darkness melted away for a moment, Kori could hear the sound of voices but not what they said. Something was touching her hip bring back waves of dull pain and a dull moan escaped her. She wanted to move but Kori was far too weak. Darkness returned lulling her back into it's sweet embrace.
It felt as if only seconds had passed when Kori's eyes opened to blinding sunlight. Squinting, she could only make out blurs at first as they adjusted she could make out where she was. Kori had been in many sunken ships enough to know that she was now inside one. The only difference was that this was not under the sea. Kori shot up in bed with a fright as it hit her. The sudden movement caused pain to shoot through her head and body. Closing her eyes tight she held her head, while Kori waited for the pain to abed. Where was she? How had she come to be in this foreign place? The thoughts that took over her mind did not help with the pain.
Feeling something odd on her body, Kori opened her eyes just a bit. She looked down to see some form of cloth covering her. She did not like it, it felt restricting. The only thing appealing about it, was it had a pretty color to it. Lifting the hem of the cloth was when she noticed a binding that was around her thigh, Kori was just about to remove it when something clicked in her head all at once. Legs. Her eyes went wide in shock. Gone was her fin, now replaced with Human legs. Kori ran her hand over the smooth skin as an amazed smile came to her face. A sudden sound drew her attention from her discovery.
The door opened suddenly, Kori's eyes snapped to the figure that stood in the doorway. Instinctively she jumped back, tripping up over her new awkward limbs. Kori scrambled best she could til her back was to the corner of the bed, forgetting her pain and trying to put as much distance between her and the figure. The figure took note of her fear and slowly closed the door. It moved slowly towards her, Kori did not move as he approached her. "Don't… be frightened," the figure held out its hand mimicking a motion as if to calm her. "I'll not hurt you. You are safe here."
Kori watched as the figure came into the light and a part of her unwillingly relaxed. It was HIM, the human she had called out too. She did not know why part of her had felt relieved it was him, but that did not mean that he could be trusted. She watched him carefully for the slightest indication of a harmful action.
Robin knew that he could not move too fast, or he would scare the girl more then she already was. He knew what it was like to wake up and not know where you were or who could be trusted. Robin set the tray he carried aside and crossed the room ever so slowly til he was right at the side of the bed. Lowering himself to her eye level. "My name is Robin. What is yours?"
Kori didn't speak at first, she just watched him not sure if she should speak. Speaking in the Human tongues was forbidden, but had she not already broken that law when she called out the warning to him? There were so many tales of how evil humans were and how the Mer should never be seen by them or interact with them. However this Human didn't know she was of the Mer. This Robin probably assumed that she was Human.
It was then that Robin wondered if she perhaps spoke another language. "Parlez-vous-" he started to ask in French but she cut him off.
"Kori..." She answered softly, just above a whisper. The girl looked so small and fragile as she gave Robin a meek look, which was still untrusting. "...is what I am called."
Robin smiled gently, "That is a very pretty name. It is a pleasure to meet you, Kori. I have food if you are hungry." He watched Kori waiting for her to make the next move.
"You are a Hu...stranger...I trust you not." Kori said bluntly which made Robin chuckle some. "You are amused by this? I do not believe it is something entertaining, unless you wish to cause harm." Kori tried to scoot into the corner even more.
"No, I do not want to cause you harm. Your honesty is what I find...refreshing." Robin gave her a warm smile as he held up his hands in surrender. "I have already promised that you are safe and I never break my promises."
Kori eyed Robin once more before she spoke again. "Your promise will be remembered. I would enjoy something to eat, my thanks to you." Kori slowly moved to edge of the bed. Robin tried to tell her to just rest and stay in the bed, but she would did not listen. Swinging her new legs over the side, Kori placed her feet on the floor. A small smile came to her face as she felt the wood under her feet.
Biting her lip, Kori gathered her strength to rise off the bed. The mermaid was only on her feet for a moment before gravity and lack of skill caused her to fall. Instead of hitting the floor, she felt warm arms encircle her. She froze, she could not help but tremble a little.
Robin shot up like lightening, he caught the girl before she even had a chance to hit the floor. He wondered why she did not listen to him. "Kori should not move with your injuries. I will bring the food to you." Robin could feel her tremble in his arms and he could not stop himself from rubbing her back. "I said you are safe. You do not have to fear me."
The mermaid looked up into Robin's eyes as he spoke and she could see that he spoke the truth. He had a good heart. He only meant to take care of her and keep her from harm. It was then that Kori knew that she would trust this Human, she had seen his soul...it was twin to hers. "Very well, Robin. I will not fear you."
Robin looked down to Kori and as he held her, he felt his pulse quicken. Being this close to her, he felt himself react to her. She sounded so innocent in her words and it made a strong sense to protect her, more then any other girl, other then save his sister Rachel. Once more he smiled, "Thank you."
They are a bit short, but It is better then what it was like before!
