Disclaimer: I don't own this. Btw I wrote the last chapter over a month ago and if there are any inconsistencies with how Zane speaks then that's why.

"Are we there yet?"

"No."

"How long will it take to get there?"

"Hours."

"What's an hour?"

"A long time."

"Oh. What's your name?"

"I am a Pikachu."

"So you don't have a name? And what's a Pikachu?"

"No, I don't have a name, and a Pikachu is a type of pokemon."

"Ok!"

It's taking a really long time to get to this Viridian place, so I just keep asking questions. At least I know a lot of what everything is now.

"What's training?"

"Difficult to explain."

"What does difficult mean?"

"Hard."

"Oh. Why did the human pup put me in a pokeball?"

"Because that's what humans do."

"Is he a trainer human?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Because he wanted to be a trainer."

"Why are you answering all my questions? The pokemon at the lab said that I was annoying, and I don't know what that means but they stopped answering my questions."

I stop walking to sniff the air. I pick up a scent, which is in front of us. "What's that Pokemon?" I ask Pikachu. He looks to where I am looking.

"Either a Spearow or a Pidgey."

"What are those?"

"Flying pokemon."

"Oh. Are we there yet?"

"Whatever, I'm done talking."

"Ok!" And then I stopped talking and we kept walking. And the pup noticed we stopped talking now.

"Hey, do you like me?" the pup asked.

"You haven't been a jerk yet so yes!" I say and nod my head.

"I hate your guts," Pikachu says.

"That's mean!" I tell him.

"He's a human."

"So? I'd still be nice to you if you were a human!"

"You're a kid, you don't know what humans are capable of."

"My other human was a jerk and never let me run anywhere and I was always in the pokeball and one day one of the others let me out and then I ran away and got to the lab and I stayed there for many sun cycles and then I saw the pup and he seemed nice and then I followed him and then I met you and he put me in a pokeball and now I'm here!" I say to him.

"You're weird."

"What does weird mean?"

"Nevermind."

"What is a mind?" But he didn't answer and now I'm going to stop talking because he doesn't want to answer anymore and he might never talk to me ever again. Actually, I'm gonna play with the pup instead. He seems nice.

He's walking in front of us, so I run up to him a bit and hit his leg with my head. He moves his arms really fast for a second before turning around.

"Hey, what was that for?" he asks and he sounds angry. I fall backwards and I feel scared because he is angry at me now. I try to back up.

"I don't know!" He stops looking angry.

"Hey, you didn't do anything wrong. Stop being scared," he says. I am a little confused but I put myself back on my paws. He bends himself onto his back paws and looks at me and starts talking again.

"Do you want to go back in your pokeball until we reach Viridian City? It'll only be for a little while and you can just do whatever you did to get out again whenever you want to." He pulls the pokeball out of his fur and holds it out to me. I press the button on it with one of my paws because I am tired and I can sleep in here for awhile and then when we get to Viridian I can come out again.

I think I'm awake now and I have no idea where we are because the pup and Pikachu are both being quiet. I open it up and pop out. I can't tell when it is because their is no sun right now but also no sky because their is something blocking it. The pup's outer body skin is on the ground and so are the pokeballs because they are inside of his skin. Humans are weird.

I raise my head and look around and sniff the air. It smells weird, but I know where the pup is now. He is on the higher ground that is very soft and he is sleeping on it. I don't know where Pikachu is and I do not smell him at all and his pokeball is also not here which is weird. I'm going to jump on the soft ground and wake up the human pup. I jump.

"Ow!" the human pup says and opens his eyes. I sniff his face and he looks at me.

"Houndour, it's the middle of the night. Go back to sleep," he says quietly and turns over.

"Where is Pikachu? Where are we? Is this Viridian? Why are the smells so weird here? How do you know what pokemon I am now?" I ask.

"Houndour, I can't understand you, go back to sleep."

"Ash, Houndour is part dark type. It's perfectly normal for them to be up in the middle of the night, and since she's also a fire type she'll probably be up during the day a lot too," a human voice says. I quickly turn towards the voice and jump off the bed to go sniff them. They laugh and bend themselves onto their back paws and starts scratching behind my ears and it feels good and now I'm happy.

"She seems pretty young, and probably was raised by humans, but I have no idea how she managed to make her way to Kanto since they're usually not found here. This is my first time encountering a wild Houndour in Kanto." I have no idea what any of that means, but they're nice and scratching my ears and I love them.

"Did someone leave her here?" I hear the pup say but I am not paying attention to that. Now I am because they've stopped scratching me and now they're standing again why you do this.

"Probably, but she seems friendly enough. As long as you know how to keep her happy and healthy, I see no reason why you can't keep her, especially after your Pikachu ran off like that."

"Pikachu ran where?" I ask the nice human who for some reason stopped scratching me and they were now standing.

Flashback

Ash's POV

"Pikachu! You can't just ran off like that! How am I going to be a trainer without my starter?!" I say while running after him. He keeps trying to get away so that he doesn't have to be my pokemon. I know I have that other pokemon now, but I don't even know what it is yet! I can't be a trainer if I don't at least know what kind of pokemon I have and how to train them and everything!

"Pika pika chuuuuuu!" Pikachu used another thundershock, but maybe it was a thunderbolt because I don't remember those other thundershocks being this big. I almost black out from the pain, but I see a flash of blue in the white and suddenly it is gone. I open my eyes and I see myself surrounded by this blue shield. Almost as soon as I notice it it disappears. I look around and try to find Pikachu again. He just straight up disappeared.

I keep walking and eventually I get to Viridian City. I ask this orange haired girl directions to the pokemon center. After she points it out to me I thank her and leave. I end up calling Professor Oak.

"Hello Ash! Have you caught any pokemon yet?"

"Uh, yeah, I caught one."

"Great! What kind of pokemon is it?"

"I don't know, the pokedex didn't recognize it."

"Did your pokedex get a picture of it?"

"Yeah." I grab my pokedex and show him the picture.

"That looks like a Houndour."

"A Houndour?"

"Yes, they're native to Johto and some other regions, but not Kanto, which is why your pokedex didn't register them. I can manually update your pokedex from the lab to include Johto pokemon so you can scan them later."

"Thanks, Professor Oak."

"And how is Pikachu doing?"

"Uh, he kind of ran off on me."

"What do you mean?"

"On our way here he ran away and he shorted out his pokeball somehow, but I can still be a great pokemon trainer because I have Houndour and we will beat all of the gyms and become the champion!"

"Great to see that this loss hasn't dampened your spirits Ash. Is there anything else you wanted to talk about, my food's going to be here soon and I'll have to answer the door."

"No, I think that's it. Thanks Professor."

"Your welcome Ash. Bye." He hung up.

It was already pretty late by the time we got here, but their was one room left for me and Houndour and apparently rooms are free in pokemon centers if you're a trainer. I changed for bed and laid down. Before I fell asleep I remembered that blue shield that protected me from Pikachu and wondered why I hadn't asked Professor Oak about it.

"Well, I have to get back to work. There's a lot of pokemon here and I don't have the time to talk with trainers all day."

"I understand. Thank you Nurse Joy." And now they're gone and the separater is closed. I don't know what that is called yet. And now I'm being picked up and the pup is petting me I love you.

"Thanks for not leaving, Houndour," he says to me.

"You are petting me and I love you and you are nice." I am also now burying myself in his skin because he is warm and I like that.

"Let's go back to sleep." He goes back to the soft ground and I'm not being put back in the pokeball this time and I'm sleeping on him and this is nice.

If anyone wants to try taking the traditional non-aura Ash route where Pikachu stays his pokemon, feel free, just give me credit for this idea and for Zane. You can also just straight up copy the first chapter and use that if you want to, just give me credit for writing it please.
