AN: What a wonderful thing to read how much you like having this back up. A guest said that he/she wanted to read it again, but not if he/she had to wait for the next chapters when the whole story is already written. But I give myself a little time to get rid of some errors, so I do that those who decide to read it again.
AN: Thanks for the reviews. I have missed mini Calzona as well!
Chapter 1: Destiny Part 2
"You came back", Callie grinned as a little head with blond curly hair peaked through the door of her patient room. She had been excitedly waiting for Arizona to come back, for Arizona to make her smile again. The little girl still felt so sad and alone, almost empty, but with the blonde in the same room, somehow, it felt a little better.
Smiling at the little Latina, Arizona closed the distance between the door and the bed in bouncy steps. "Of course. Even with permission", she said and nodded her head. "Yesterday, I kinda sneaked out…" It wasn't exactly true. Her father had allowed her to leave her mother's room, but he had also told her not to go too far away.
The brunette chuckled at that. Not even once had she stolen herself away from her parents or babysitter, too afraid of her father's anger. She thought her blonde was really brave to disobey her father's words.
"I got you something" Arizona said, a broad grin appearing on her face. "When I feel alone, I always cuddle with Mr Turtles", she explained and looked down at the stuffed and fluffy green sea turtle in her arms, a small hand stroking over its head. "Unless you think you're too big to have a stuffed anything, being six years old."
"No!" Callie reached out for the toy with her left hand since her right was still in the cast and she was too afraid to move it too often. It didn't hurt that much but she didn't want to risk anything. She had never had a broken bone before and she didn't know for sure if the cast was enough to protect the already healing bone. "It's so fluffy", she smiled. "Thank you."
Climbing onto the bed, blue eyes flickered between the stuffed toy and the smile on the other girl's face. "Mr Turtles can keep you company, he's good at that. Just... maybe you can give him back when you leave the hospital?", Arizona asked.
"Of course", Callie grinned and nodded as she hugged the green and brown turtle tight to her chest. It didn't only feel good, it smelled good too, like cinnamon.
"Do you know now what will happen to you when you get out of the hospital?" She was curious what would happen to Calliope. Her father had said that an orphanage was an option, or maybe a foster family.
And there it was again, the sadness tugging at her little heart and she felt tears welling up again. "Not really", she answered and shook her head lightly. "A woman was here this morning, said something about orphanage and foster families. I didn't understand everything. I just want my family back. I miss my mamá and my papá. I even miss my sister."
Seeing the tears glistening in the little Latina's eyes, Arizona wanted to do something to make her feel better, but if Mr. Turtles didn't work right now, she needed a new plan. "Are you allowed to leave this room?", she asked having an idea to distract her new friend before she would start to cry again.
"Yeah, why?", she sniffed. Until now, she hadn't left her room that often. She didn't want to be in the playroom with the other kids, because sometimes, their parents came to pick them up and that made her sad all over again.
"Come with me." The curly blonde slid off the bed and waited for Callie to get out of it too.
"Where are we going?", Callie asked, giving in to her tears. She always tried to hold them back, but it never worked. It couldn't work when her brain made her think about her family all the time. Using the sleeve of her shirt to wipe her cheeks, she followed Arizona, despite the fact that she still didn't know what the other girl had in mind.
"You'll see." Arizona grabbed Callie by her left upper arm as her hand was still holding on to the fin of the stuffed turtle and the other one was still in the cast.
They made their way down the hall and through two heavy glass doors until Arizona stopped in front of a patient room. "I'll show you some joy", she said and pushed the door open. "Hey mommy." The smile on her face got even bigger.
The woman – half lying, half sitting – in the hospital bed looked up as her daughter had entered the room and wondered,"Arizona, you're back already? I thought you were visiting your new friend?"
Callie smiled as she heard Arizona's mother call her a friend. She liked the blonde girl and she could easily see her as a friend. Friends make you smile, her father had told her once, and Arizona could do that with ease.
"She's here too. Can we see Timmy?", the blonde asked dragging Callie into her mom's room without waiting for an answer. One, she really wanted to see her little brother and two, she didn't think her parents would mind. People came in here all the time. Doctors, nurses, her grandparents.
"Oh, Daniel look at that beautiful little girl. Isn't that Mr Turtles?", the woman asked as she noticed the stuffed turtle in the brunette's hand, not missing that the grip on the fluffed skin tightened instantly.
"It... it is", Arizona answered honestly and dropped her gaze to the floor, staring at her feet. "I thought that... maybe... he can stay with Calliope for a while, so she's not all alone. He's a good friend and good at keeping company, especially at night."
And though Arizona could not see it, her mom was smiling, seeing that they were doing everything right with raising their daughter. "You can see Timmy in a bit", she answered her daughter's question instead of remarking that she shouldn't give away her favorite stuffed animal. "He's asleep right now, but he'll be hungry soon. You can stay here if you want. And your friend can wait here too."
"Timmy is so cute!" Arizona beamed and led Calliope further into her mother's room. "He has big blue eyes, like I do. And yeah, okay he's a boy, but he's my brother so I guess he will be okay. He screams a lot when he's hungry but mommy said that I did the same when I was a baby", she rambled on and on about her brother.
Daniel, who had been silently observing the scene that took place before his eyes, suddenly stood up from his chair and walked over to his little girl. "Arizona Robbins, what did I tell you about bringing new people to meet your family?", her father asked in a stern voice, making Callie flinch but Arizona just turned around and smiled at him.
Dimples popping deep into her cheeks, as she flashed her father a big smile, she looked at him and said, "Oops. Sorry, I forgot. Mommy, daddy, this is Calliope, she's six years old and my new friend. Calliope, that's my mom and this is my father, Colonel Robbins."
"N-n-nice to meet you", Callie stammered, still a little scared of the tall man in front of her. He had a similar charisma like her father. Tall, stern voice and face. But she loved her father, because he was the best father in the whole world. This man though, she didn't know him and right now, he seemed a little scary.
"Nice to meet you too, young lady", Mrs Robbins smiled, taking the little Latina's attention away from her husband, well aware of the effect he could have on someone who didn't know that he was a softy at heart. "And what a beautiful color your cast is. Do you like red?"
The little Latina nodded, nervously tipping from one foot to the other as she tried to focus on the woman. She seemed nice, with her blonde waves that ended just above her shoulders framing her face and the warm blue eyes.
"Me too."
"I like green too", Callie said, her eyes traveling down to the turtle she still had a firm hold on. "But red is better", she grinned and after a few seconds of silence she added a quiet, "Pink's still okay." When she looked at Arizona, she noticed the deep dimples in the little girl's face again and right that moment, she started to like dimples, a lot.
As a blaring voice echoed through the small room, Colonel Robbins moved over to the bassinet and scooped his newborn son up in his arms only to hand him over to his wife. "I think he needs you more right now", he said with a wink.
"Look, look, Calliope. He's so cute. Daddy says he looks just like me when I was born", Arizona smiled proudly.
"Look, look, Calliope", Arizona exclaimed and tugged at the fabric of the Latina's shirt. "He's so cute. Daddy says he looks just like me when I was born", the blonde smiled proudly. She couldn't see her brother from where she was standing right now, but last night her father had shown her a picture of her asa baby and then another picture of her brother. The same little white face, the same little nose, he had said.
"He does, Dimples", her father reassured his daughter, knowing that it meant a lot to the little girl. Of course they had talked to her, told her that Timmy would get a little more attention because he needed more help because he was so tiny. And he had faith that Arizona had understood all of it, but giving his daughter attention as well was also important.
"He's going to break a lot of hearts once he's old enough", Barbara Robbins laughed while nursing her baby boy. Both their children would, she thought.
Stepping a little closer, Callie got a glimpse of the little boy and smiled. "He has blue eyes", she said, already fascinated by Arizona's big and sparkling blue orbs. Her whole family had brown eyes and dark hair. Her father's eyes had been a little lighter than her mother's but Anina and she had inherited her mother's eyes.
"Yeah", Daniel chuckled, his rough voice sounding less and less scary to the brunette. "With Barbara's and my blue eyes, there was no way one of our children would end up with intense brown eyes such as yours." He knew every member of his family fell in love with his little girls' eyes, but he could already tell that the Latina's eyes had the same effect. They were so deep and almost black.
"Thank you, Sir", Callie answered politely, just like she had learned from her father.
"Do you wanna hold him? Daddy said, I can hold him, but I have to sit down." Seeing the big smile on Callie's face, Arizona knew she offered something good. But as the little girl's face fell, she was confused. "What? Did I say something wrong?", she asked, tilting her head to the side.
"Your parents probably won't allow that. He's only two days old and I am not your family...so..." Brown eyes saddened slightly before drifting off to the ground. She could not hold the boy with her cast, she was sure everyone would think she would drop him.
"Oh Daniel, I think it is okay. What do you think?" Barbara asked, not able to see the little girl so sad. She would just make sure to help her, to stabilize his head if Callie couldn't do that on her own.
Smiling at his wife, knowing that she was trying to cheer the girl up just like his daughter, he finally said, "If you sit down and Timothy is fed and has burped, I guess it will be okay."
"Really?", Brown eyes got even bigger as the little brunette looked up to see Arizona's father. She had never expected for them to say yes.
"Really", he reassured her and first picked up his own daughter so sit her down on his wife's bed and then he did the same with the beaming Latina whose eyes were locked on the new born boy who was happily drinking the milk Mrs. Robbins was offering him.
