When The
Lightning Strikes
Chapter 2
Barry's Condition
Disclaimer: I own nothing but the idea you see within this story. And well folks, you asked and now you got it! Hope this will have been worth the wait!
After a rather heated argument between Joe and the ambulance crew who had arrived to take Barry to the hospital about where he should go. The crew finally relented to the man's demands and were seen speeding through out the city on their way to STAR Labs. Iris and Linda were currently headed that way too after Iris had received a text from her father to head that way when they themselves were still headed to Barry's old house. Which left her wondering why STAR Labs and not an actual hospital, her father's answer to that very question didn't exactly help much either. And she'd be sure to make certain that she would get an answer as soon as possible. Eddie, after having arrived at the scene, had remained at Barry's old house to keep onlookers from coming further so that he and others could canvass the area to possibly find any additional clues. The arrival of the woman who currently lived at the house didn't help matters much either.
As the ambulance arrived, Cisco could be seen opening the gate rather quickly to allow them in. Dr. Wells could be seen by the front entrance waiting on them as Caitlin prepared for what was needed inside. The crew of the ambulance, alongside Joe who had rode with Barry, quickly got out of the ambulance and pulled Barry out as well. Gently as they could so as not to possibly worsen his injuries. And as they made their way inside, another car could be seen arriving as well. Cisco quickly noticed it was Iris and another girl who was with her. And figured it might be Linda who was along for the ride.
The two girls quickly got out after an abrubt stop past the gate and made their way to Cisco as he shut the gate and locked it. Before either one could say anything though, Cisco spoke up first as he turnd towards them. "I'm sorry either one of you had to find out this way. And you must be Linda?" His question gained him a nod.
"Oh yeah, definitely not the best way to have a first meeting." He joked, but the seriousness was evident in his tone.
Iris voiced a question that was running rampant in her mind. "How long have you been helping him?"
Cisco looked over at her and he could easily see the crushed look the girl had in her eyes. "Since the day he got out of the coma pretty much."
Iris only could nod at that, unsure if she should be angry or happy that the STAR Labs team had known and had been helping Barry out. Linda on the other hand was having trouble dealing with it. "I... I made him promise not to try anything... I mean I didn't know about this part but still..." Iris put a hand on the girl's shoulder in an attempt to offer her some comfort.
The engineer could only look at her with sadness evident in his eyes. "I think even if you had known about the secret and made him promise. He still would have wound up being out there anyway."
Linda could only nod in acceptance of the man's words. And the three were soon off to wait and see what would happen.
Several hours later...
Things had been tense in the waiting room next to the medical lab as they all waited to hear from Caitlin and the ambulance team who stayed to help her out with Barry. Along with Linda, Iris, and Cisco was Dr. Wells, Arsenal, Joe, and Girder. Whom had yet to be made to go back into his cell. Eddie had yet to show up as he was still dealing with the fall out from the fight. Iris had continued to look at Girder with suspicion since she still very clearly remembered what happened last time. But so far had yet to say anything. She had also wondered why the red suited guy was there too as he couldn't be the Arrow.
The various musings of those present were interrupted by the sounds of the door opening and Caitlin herself stepping out into the waiting room. She quickly had to put her hands up in front of her to hopefully deter them from continually asking questions. Only a whistle from Arsenal who had not joined in stopped them. "Oh, thanks!" Caitlin called out to him.
"No problem." The hooded figure said with a smile.
Caitlin took a moment to compose herself before speaking next. As she knew everyone present were not going to be happy with the news she had. Heck, she herself wasn't happy about it. "We managed to save Barry's life. But currently everything aside from a hand is wrapped in a cast. Even with his speedy healing we aren't sure how long it'll take to recover from this. Or how well he'll recover from it." She reported to them sadly.
"Speedy healing?" The question was out before Linda could stop herself. Causing everybody else to look at her.
Cisco answered that one. "Yeah, because of his speed. He can heal at a much faster rate than what a normal person can. His speed is also a large part of the reason for why you might even see him eat more than usual too. He needs to eat that much in order to run as fast as he does."
"Oh." Was all Linda or anyone else really could say.
"Can we see him now?" Iris asked, hoping they would say yes.
Caitlin nodded and walked back into the med lab, followed by Iris and Linda. Joe had chosen to stay where he was as he planned to head out to Iron Heights to speak with Henry about the day's events. But before he could do so, Dr. Wells spoke up. "We should prepare a statement for the press. As I have no doubt they are going to want an update." He reasonably stated.
Joe let out a sigh of annoyance, but knew the man was right. "Yeah, I'll let you handle that. Right now I need to go see Barry's father." Wells nodded at him as the detective walked off to have what would likely be a fairly unpleasant conversation with Henry Allen.
Wells looked towards to where Girder and Arsenal were. Of the two, Arsenal was on his phone likely texting Miss Smoak of the news he had received. "Mr. Woodward, I trust you will be on your best behavior?" The man asked sternly.
Getting a nod from the younger man was all Dr. Wells needed. And went about his business, figuring if the boy didn't keep to his word that at least Arsenal would be able to appropriately deal with the situation.
Author's Notes: I have to say one thing, I am deeply appreciative of all the feedback this has gotten! And hopefully this chapter will be just as good for folks! R and R!
