A/N: So I think I'm gonna focus more on this story a little more than A Merc Turned Huntsman, since this is initially what brought me back into Fanfiction. And, I kinda hope I get to scratch my literacy itch. Not to mention how much I like the idea of a RvB/RWBY crossover if Rooster Teeth ever got to it (which I kinda doubt but I'm told I'm optimistic). And, to be frank, I want to put Simmons into the limelight more rather that Church or Tucker, who I see a little more often when in this situation. But, I digress, here's Chapter 2
The Deathstalker creeps ever closer to a helpless Ruby Rose, it's stinger looming high and menacingly. The situation reeks of unfortunate luck. Yang, dodging a few of the falling spear-like Nevermore, looks towards her sister. "Ruby, get out of there!" She calls in distress for the safety of her sibling. Ruby, with futility, tugs on her cape that has been snagged under the weight of a feather. "I'm trying!" She answers, continuing her efforts to free herself.
The Deathstalker is upon her, stinger raised high and ready to strike. Ruby's silver eyes look up and bares witness to the scorpion's main attack, with a stinging tail big enough to impale her with ease. 'This is how I die, isn't it', she thought as she stands there, petrified of fear. Simmons, with the group, looks back over his shoulder, "Someone go help her, da—" The maroon soldier is cut off by a streak of white, moving at a speed where it appears as a blur.
Ruby stood and closed her eyes in fear, as she waited for her impending doom. A doom that never came, as when she opened them she saw another soldier. This soldier has one difference from the maroon one she saw fire a rocket: this one was a blue color. Cyan? Aqua? But most importantly, to Ruby at least, was the sparks flying from the 'awesome as heck sword' as she put it that clashed with the tip of the stinger. The soldier was blocking the stinger of the Deathstalker using a glowing, two-pronged sword. The tip was caught into the narrow slit between the blades, and was held back by a mighty strength.
And while the stinger was caught, a white blur happened across Ruby. And with a flash, and the resonating cracking sound, a large cluster of ice encased a portion of the large insectoid Grimm's body, and covered the whole that is its left pincer.
"You are so childish" a scolding voice stated. Ruby looks up to see the figure of Weiss Schnee, holding her weapon of choice, the rapier Myrtenaster. It has been jabbed into the ground, but is effortlessly pulled back. She turns to face Ruby, with scrutiny, "And dimwitted, and hyperactive, and don't even get me started on your fighting style." She states, looking at Ruby as she mentions all of these reasons, but she hasn't finished just yet. "And I suppose, I can be...difficult. But if we're going to do this, we're going to have to do this together. So if you quit trying to show off, I'll be...nicer". While Weiss gives her opinions and resolve to Ruby, the soldier in teal/cyan/aqua armor approaches Ruby. A swift and fast strike cuts down the feather down to the the point, which is pulled out with little effort.
The blue soldier raises his hand and placed his index and middle finger onto the side of the helmet near the visor. A voice is heard through a speaker on the helmet. "Alright Wash, we're good. You can come out now." And just on cue, two more soldiers appear from the brush. One was wearing golden/orange armor and carried a weapon, what looks to be a launcher of some sort, too big to be a gun. But it also had a large and scratched blade on the back. The other wore cold, steel grey armor with hints of yellow as accents. All he carried was a sole and rather bland rifle, military grade by the looks of it.
While they approach, Ruby looks at Weiss, "I'm not trying to show off. I want you to know I can do this". While Weiss was about to respond, one of the armors spoke up, through a speaker in their helmets. His voice was low and reassuring as a leader, but he sounded like he was no older than anyone else at Beacon. "You don't need to prove yourself to anyone. They'll see for themselves when it comes naturally." Both Ruby and Weiss looked towards the armor, each with different expressions. Ruby looked at the armor with awe, but Weiss simply looked with annoyance and scrutiny. She approaches the grey and yellow soldier, with an air of royalty. She stands up to it, only to notice the height difference between them. She was a full head shorter, having to look up slightly.
"And just who are you? I don't recall letting Atlas soldiers into the Beacon initiation." The soldier responds, "Atlas? We're not from Atlas. We're from the UNSC, and we have no idea where we are." The little white girl scoffs, not entirely believing the story, "Do you have any idea who I am? Now you better tell me what you're doing here, because I've never heard of a UNSC."
"No, I don't know who you are, and no I don't know why we're here." He responds. Weiss looks in disbelief and goes to retort before being rudely interrupted by the orange armor. "Look, we can argue about this later, but right now we have a giant fucking scorpion right behind us and it looks pissed!" The orange soldier made a solid argument, and it wasn't long before they all retreated back towards the group to rejoin.
When Yang, Ruby and Weiss return, everyone turn in surprise to the remaining three that accompany them: more of the same soldiers in the same strange armor. But no one was more surprised than the soldier himself, as he stood up with one of the clearest expressions of bewilderment.
"Grif!?" He asks. The orange soldier, now know as Grif, retorts with, "Simmons?! What the hell are you doing here? Scratch that, what even is here?!" He asks as his voice raises in volume. He's clearly angry, for reasons not very known.
"Yeah, great to see you too," he says sarcastically, "But the air is breathable, there's life and we're being attacked by fucking monsters, why are you asking me?! We have bigger problems now!" He flips the barrel of the rocket launcher he carried and loaded one into it, before folding it back. The grey soldier chimes in, 'Wash' as he's called, "Well, we still need to find out where we are. And what is going on here". The blue soldier gives in his own opinion, "Why not ask them?"
He pointed towards the group of 8 individuals, each one looking at them. Each of them had their opinions of them as well. The 3 brightly colored soldiers walked towards them, the grey one Wash apparently leading them. "So, who here can tell what's going on?" He asks, and is greeted by a few confused looks. "What do you mean what's going on? We're in the middle of initiation" The blonde replied. It didn't help much, but at least they know this is some sort of initiation. Wash still needed more, but Grif interjected again by pointing to the Deathstalker writhing in it's ice prison. "We have to go, now Wash." Wash only nodded, before turning towards the large group of students, "We'll deal with introductions later. Right now, we just need to escape with our lives."
It was Ruby who chimes in after Wash, "Our objective was to grab the artifacts and get to the cliffs. We don't have to fight these things." Everyone nods, as Ruby's logic of the mission doesn't indeed makes sense. And with the acknowledgment, they all begin to move and plan.
One fight against a Deathstalker and an epic beheading of a Nevermore later, as well as the issue of climbing the cliffside, the 8 Huntsmen and 4 soldiers begin their walk back to Beacon.
During their walk through the remaining of the forest, they had begun their introductions. The students, introduced as Pyrrha Nikos, Nora Valkyrie, Lie Ren, Jaune Arc, Ruby Rose, Blake Belladonna, Yang Xiao Long, and Weiss Schnee. The soldiers, meanwhile, introduce themselves as Lavernius Tucker, Richard Simmons, David Washington and Dexter Grif. Each one took their helmet off as well, showing their faces to gain more trust from the students. Wash was hesitant, untrusting until Simmons convinced him into removing his helmet.
"It's very nice to meet you Lavernius." Pyrrha said with a tone of comfort. Tucker quickly corrects her, "Woah, listen. Nobody calls me Lavernius. Everyone just says 'Tucker'. It basically goes for everyone that we aren't called by our first names." Tucker points to the 4 soldiers. "Well, his name is Dick instead of Richard," Grif points to Simmons, who is staying quiet as he messed with some of his helmet functions. "Wait, how does someone get 'Dick' from Richard?" Pyrrha asked. Her reaction wasn't one she expected, as both Tucker and Grif busted out laughing, Yang covering her mouth to keep herself from laughing. Everyone else chuckled a bit. Pyrrha let her question float in her head before turning back in a flustered expression. She didn't mean for her to phase it like that, but she could only assume it was accidental. She looks over at Simmons, whose face was turned away from her. His cheeks were a brighter red than his own armor, and there was stark contrast as it was visibly comparable.
With each soldier with their helmet off, they could see their faces well. Simmons has already revealed himself, with Ruby lightly tapping his robotic eye to his slight discomfort. It both amazed and confused her. "How did you get this cool eye?" She asked, and Simmons just sighs. "I donated organs, because someone was a dumbass." He glared at Grif, ashamed as how he has corrupted his organs so quickly. "Can't believe I donated organs for that war…" He muttered to himself.
Tucker walked alongside Pyrrha and Yang, cracking a few jokes and Yang leaving a few giggles to what Tucker has to say. Of course, Tucker being Tucker, he was also making several advances towards Pyrrha much to her discomfort. He had light chocolate skin, with narrow chestnut eyes. His hair was put into a tail, and shaved sides. He possesses a charismatic smile, much to the irony of how his pickup lines are pretty horrible. Much like the ones he's using to trying and pick up Pyrrha.
Washington stood in the front. His face is scarred with various cuts in various directions. His eyes are a tired blue, perpetually drooped down and stressed. His hair is flared up, the top of his hair bleached while his sides remain his natural black. He mostly stays quiet, but draws the attention and curiosity of Blake. Occasionally, he cracks a few jokes at the expense of his teammates, primarily Tucker.
Grif looked gritty and unclean. Long and unruly wild hair, bags underneath his eyes and a soul patch growing on his chin with shadow visible around his jaw. mainly stood alone. He kept to himself, and seemed quite distant. No whining, no sarcastic remarks, nothing from him. He was strangely quiet, an off putting mood for those who know Grif. Something wasn't right with him.
Questions were exchanged, answers were given, jokes and some insults were thrown. As now they talked, the more they got closer to their destination.
It was sudden. And painful. Simmons felt something hit him in the back of his head, enough to knock him down.
"Ow, the back of my head!" He cried in pain as a small chunk of ice hit the back of his head. Not enough to cause anything major, but enough to cause pain.
Looking behind, many turned to see a middle-aged woman (though, in Tucker's opinion, middle-age was kind to her) with a riding crop pointed at Simmons. In swift motion, Washington and Grif raised their weapons, while Tucker activated his Key into his pulled-back stance.
Before any bullets flew, a man with grey hair and green scarf placed a hand on the lady's shoulder. He simply stared with relaxed but unreadable eyes through slightly crooked glasses. She slowly lowered her riding crop, looking back at the soldiers who also settled their weapons. Simmons, in the meanwhile, had gotten to his feet and saw the duo. And at last, the man spoke.
"We have much to talk about. Especially you four"
A/N: And here it is. Truthfully, I had a pretty rocky idea of how this was going to go. And I came to the problem of how Simmons was going to be paired. While I could just stick to 3 OCs, I don't have very many to use.
And why specifically Wash, Tucker and Grif? Is just said 'eh' and went with it. It sounds bad, but these guys are idiot soldiers (minus Wash). And with 4, they make a team.
But, here's what I could churn out. Not my best work, admittedly, but in my defense it's a very hard transition which is common with crossovers. But, here it is. I just hope you guys think it's good. Also, leaving reviews helps a lot with my writing. It's a good motivator and also a source of ideas. Which is what I'm going to do. In the Reviews, leave some suggestions of Semblances for the 4 space marines. Remember, Semblances come from moments of great stress and it's often said that Semblances reflect a person's morals within their soul, or their Semblances that dictate who they are as a person. Much like how Ruby is incredibly hyperactive, it would make sense that her Semblance makes her incredibly fast.
But, this is getting too long. Leave a review, tell me what I can improve. And have a nice day.
