CHAPTER 2
The Money Greedy Witch
~~XXXXXXXX~~
Nami, the Strawhats navigator, walked down the road as she praised herself. 'I can FINALLY draw the map of the island with these measurements! I'm such a skillful navigator! Teehee'. She kept walking, her attention on the silhouette of their ship. In order for her to get to the ship easier, she has to pass through the forest. She wasn't scared, because the ship was near, but she did have a strange feeling that something was going on. This island was poor. Even though this is one of the marine base. The village that lived here was poor. All of them said that none of them ever left the island for they have little money to build a boat. They didn't even know how to build a boat! The marines were the only ones who went out to the open sea. She found it suspicious that no one ever complained about their situation. Don't they want to see the world? or perhaps some of them? There is also one thing that worried her even more. Her crew.
Her crew should've been back by now. It's been hours since they've gone to rescue their idiot captain and those 2 morons. She was so sure that Robin, Usopp, Franky, Brook and also Chopper, who can heal their injuries if they have any, and can also assist in battle. To be honest, she was glad she wasn't on the rescue team because when she began to survey the island's measurements, she noticed TONS of marines loitering around. She figured their intentions immediately. They knew that the Strawhat's comrades and also the captain were hostages, so they tried to lure the other Strawhat's in their silly little trap. You asking why they knew about the situation their captain and those 2 morons were in. Huh, well, Nami wasn't called Cat Burglar for nothin' and with Robin's helpful skill of spying, thanks to her devil fruit, it made things much easier. But what she didn't know was that, how on earth were they captured so easily!? That, they didn't know.
But still, it was too obvious. Nami have doubts. All of this was too easy. TOO EASY...She widened her eyes in realization. Could this be... ! Without thinking, she ran. She ran as fast as her legs can take her. She frankly stopped as she saw a silhouette of a man... well, maybe more. She hid behind the tree as she listened to their conversation. She was too far away from the range to hear them, but she was able to make up one sentence.
"Are you sure this is their ship?" a man said. The other man nodded. Nami sighed in relief as she realize she wasn't too late. She knew it! This was all a trap! The fact that their were no boats was all part of their stupid plan! She assumed wrong then. She bet that the marines set this plan into action with the help of the villagers. No wonder they treated her nicely. They thought that if they welcomed them with warm hands, they would stay for the night and while they were sleeping. The marines destroy their boat and take the one protecting it as hostage. But they thought wrong, Luffy's instinct really works wonders. Nami came to a sudden realization that they were set up by using women, meat and sake and she didn't doubt that for a second and instead they were the hostage. She suddenly regretted the fact that she hadn't went with her friends to save the 3 moronic monsters. Nami hated to admit but she preferred if she fight alongside with her friends, not alone and seeing these numbers with her own eyes made her dropped a thousand of sweats.
She gulped hard, trying to dominate a plan. The Good News was, she has her Clima Tact. The Bad News was, they were at least 30 of them! She literally yelled in her mind. 'WHY ON EARTH DID THE MARINES SEND 30 MEN TO DESTROY ONE SHIP!?' Ugh. This day was so not her day... Where was her crew when she need them? She cursed the heavens above for giving her such naive comrade's but she also felt grateful. If it wasn't for them, she would still be with Arlong, drawing him maps for his own.
"Give me that. I'll be the one to destroy their ship." She heard the man say. She popped her head behind the tree and saw him about to press a button that would put their lives in danger and destroy their ship. 'It's now or never' She groaned as she stepped out of her hiding.
"Well... Well... Well..." All heads turned to face her. "I can't let you do that, now can I?"
"Who are you!?" The one in charge, or so she assumed, demanded. She sighed dramatically "Come on, how can someone, who was about to destroy our ship, can not know me?" Suddenly, a man came running to him and whispered, well, more like screamed, which Nami can hear just fine. "Sir! That's the Cat Burglar, Nami! The navigator of the Strawhat's Pirates!"
"What!?" The man in charge yelled, as he took a wanted picture from his pocket. His eyes went to Nami and the picture. Nami. Picture. Nami. Picture. He cleared his throat and ordered "She's nothing but a woman! Capture her!"
Nami grew a tick in her forehead and her smile twitched. "Think again!" She pointed her staff upwards and all of them followed their gaze to the storm clouds above. "I have a baaaaad feeling about this." Nami heard someone murmur. "Ohhhh, I bet you have~~. The forecast for today gentlemen, is...!" Nami slashed her staff in the air, going downwards, as she cried "Thunder!"
Thunder fell unto them as they screamed,
"Arghhh!"
"Ugh!"
"Mommy!"
"AH!"
Nami smirked at her handy work and said to the man in charge with a whistle "Never underestimate a woman, a*hole!" She kicked him in the gut as he groaned in pain. But suddenly. Something exploded.
*BOOM!*
She felt herself being thrown by the air as her body kissed the floor. "Wha?" As she stumbled on her toes. She stared at the ship now on fire... The Sunny was on fire! Her job was suppose to protect the goddamn ship! Her eyes began to broaden as the fire crackled as it touched the water below. Their ship was sinking. Sunny was sinking! This was a familiar scene, her mind brought back the memories of Merry's death. Only she was alone this time. There was no voice, unlike Merry. Her belief on no one can look straight into a bright light was suddenly gone when she stared at the explosion before her. Adam's wood was scattered in the sand. Her tangerine tress, floating in the ocean. Clothes torn. Sanji's equipment were drowning. The Lion Head of Sunny was in the sand. And most of all... HER MONEY... was now drowning and covered by the sand. All the bills were on fire.
Nami didn't cry. She just... stared. This couldn't be happening. This couldn't be happening. That one sentence made her body shook and made her stare so hard, that it looks like it would bulged out anytime soon. Nami suddenly felt too weak to move. As her knees gave out, a memory suddenly popped out in her head. Tears finally made their way down to her face as she remembered Merry's voice saying farewell. Sunny's voice... She didn't hear it. Maybe the ship wasn't completely destroyed? Maybe Franky can renovate it!
She, once again, widened her eyes in horror. Franky. Franky made this ship and is part of his dream. What if... What if Luffy and Franky will fight like what happened with Usopp? The crew would once again, break. Nami didn't want that. She loves her crew so much, that it would kill her that they'll kill each other... but what can she do? She's just Nami... a normal navigator with a staff that can take minutes to make thunder. She doesn't have monstrous strength like her captain, Zoro and Sanji. She doesn't have a metallic body like Franky. She doesn't know how to shoot like Usopp. She doesn't have a devil Fruit like Robin, Chopper, Brook and Luffy.
Nami shook her head as she gain her balance. 'No. Luffy already told me. I am me for who I am. Without me, they'll be lost... unlike a certain marimo, who ALWAYS gets lost' She smiled as she remembered the last time she saw him. They were fighting. *Ahem* more like flirting.
~~Flashback~~
"Oi. Witch." Nami turned her attention to Zoro, who held her in his arms. She placed her arms behind his neck. "What?"
"Be safe." He simply said as he ruffled her hair, much to her annoyance. She pouted and stick her tongue to him, but answered him. "I will."
When Zoro, Sanji and Luffy got off the ship. Nami yelled "And Zoro! Your debt just increased!" Zoro grunted in reply and yelled back "Why!? What the hell did I ever do to you!?"
"For ruffling my hair!"
"Woman! You just increased it for that!?"
"And also!" Zoro groaned as he turned to listen whatever she'll say. "If you don't come back safe, you'll get a 70% interest!" Zoro grumbled and yelled "Shaddap... You Money Greedy Witch!"
Nami smirked and was satisfied at his reaction. "Shishishishi!, Let's go!" Luffy laughed. "Lucky Bastard" Sanji murmured "I heard that. Why don't you pay that never ending debt Love Cook! and besides don't you have Robin!?" With that, Sanji and Zoro started fighting with Luffy leading the way, laughing.
"Is it really safe for them to go together, Nami?" Usopp sighed. Franky backed him up "He's right, girlie. They could create chaos in this island for no more than a minute."
Usopp and Franky shivered as they saw Robin's dark smile and dark aura. "Hohoho, Cook-san... is quite lively, ne?"
'Yep. She's definitely jealous.' They thought. Then Usopp remembered something.
"Oi, Nami." Nami looked at him, one eyebrow rose. "Hm...?"
"Why don't you and Zoro say goodbye like a normal couple? Aren't you dating?"
Robin quickly smiled and returned to normal, knowing the answer.
Nami looked at him, smirking "We can never be a normal couple. After all he's just some idiotic swordsman who's sense of direction is worse than someone with an amnesia and I'm just..." She paused as she closed her eyes, grinning widely at Usopp "I'm just a Money Greedy Witch!"
~~Flashback ends~~
Nami smiled at the memory as she stood straight. Hands clenched. She inhaled deeply and let all her emotions out by screaming.
Anguish. Pain. Despair. Sadness. Anger. Anxious. Helplessness. All of the negative emotions she was feeling were all there, but so are the positive emotions. Happiness. Hope. Faith. and most of all. Love. The love of her comrades made her feel stronger. And that made her have the courage to fight for them. 'I'm coming' She thought as she ran to the direction where her destiny truly ends.
What she didn't know was that, her scream was heard by none other than her captain. And the scream was what made her fellow Strawhat captain woke up.
