Harry set his bag on the floor and lay on his bed. He had no homework and no plans for the rest of the day. He'd normally hang out with Sirius but he was nowhere to be found. Harry reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. He went to the contact list and clicked Elena's name.
"Hello?"
"I'm being overwhelmed with boredom," Harry said. "Save me?"
"I'm going to The Grill in about ten minutes. Want to come?"
Harry fist pumped and mentally cheered. "I'd love too," He replied. "You should invite Stefan too. You know, so we can all hang out together."
"Stefan can't come." She growled.
Harry raised his eyebrows in surprise. "Why can't he come?"
"I wish I knew! He's been acting really weird lately, the only time I see him now is in school and he doesn't even call me," She ranted.
"Have you called him?"
"No…"
"Maybe you should stop waiting for him to call you," Harry suggested. "Call him."
"I suppose," Elena sighed.
"Good. Hey, did you find out why Jeremy needed your car?" He asked.
"No actually. I'll go find that out right now. See you at The Grill,"
"Later." Harry hung up. He smelt under his arms and decided to skip the shower. He went downstairs and saw Sirius sitting at a table that hadn't been there this morning.
"Where'd that come from?" Harry asked as he opened the fridge and grabbed a water bottle.
"I bought it earlier. I thought we needed one."
"You thought correctly,"
"So, tell me about your day. Did you make any friends?"
"Yeah I made a couple. I'm actually about to go meet up with one of them." Harry told Sirius.
"Do you need money?" Sirius asked already reaching into his pocket.
"I guess so," Harry shrugged.
"Here you go," Sirius handed him the money. "Have fun okay?"
"Thanks," Harry threw his water bottle into the garbage and walked out the front door.
Harry walked into the Grill and looked around. The place was crowded and it took him a couple of minutes to find Elena, who was sitting with Bonnie and Caroline.
"Everyone does hang out here," Harry said as he sat down next to Bonnie.
"It's almost always crowded like this," Bonnie said with an annoyed expression.
"So Harry, why'd you move to Mystic Falls?" Caroline asked.
"My godfather and I needed a change of scenery. We couldn't trust anyone back home." Harry lied with an uncomfortable look on his face. He was mentally hoping someone would change the subject. He and Sirius hadn't thought of a good explanation to tell any muggles yet, so they were both pretty much winging it.
Elena frowned, "That sucks."
"Have you seen any girls that you might be interested in?" Caroline asked bluntly.
"Caroline!" Bonnie and Elena yelled with a shocked look on their faces.
"What? It's obvious he doesn't want to talk about that," Caroline said. "So, have you?"
"I'm gay," Harry told them.
"Why are all the good ones gay?" Caroline cried out.
"I did not see that coming." Bonnie said.
"Me either," Elena nodded. "It's cool though. I've always wanted a gay best friend."
Caroline rolled her eyes, "So are you top or bottom?" she asked earning scandalized gasps and giggles from Elena and Bonnie.
"Bottom I mean I've never actually done that but I've been in a relationship before and I'm definitely bottom…" Harry stopped when he noticed Caroline wasn't listening anymore.
"Who is that?" Harry followed her line of sight until he saw a gorgeous pale guy with raven black hair sitting in one of the booths holding a drink in his hand. He was wearing a smirk and staring straight at him.
"Does anyone else find it weird that he's staring at me?" Harry said.
"What are you talking about Harry? He's obviously staring at me." Caroline flipped her hair and smiled at him.
Harry gave her a confused look and raised his eyebrow at Elena. She shook her head and did the crazy sign and pointed to Caroline. Harry laughed and turned his attention back to tall, dark and mysterious and saw the guy coming towards them.
"Hello, are you Elena?" he asked.
"Who wants to know?"
"Damon Salvatore. I'm Stefan's older, sexier brother."
"You're Stefan's brother? But he told me you weren't in town." she said with a confused look on her face.
"I arrived a couple of days ago. Stefan's been helping me settle in."
"Oh...how did you know I was Elena?" she asked suspiciously.
"Well we're both attracted to pale black-haired beauties. Plus, he told me you were going to be at The Grill today." He said with a smirk. He turned to look at Harry. "I'm sorry; I didn't catch your names."
"That's because we never threw them." Harry said automatically. Damon chuckled and Harry flushed. "I'm sorry, I couldn't resist."
"Wow that was such an ancient joke." Caroline laughed sardonically. "I'm Caroline." She said batting her eyes at Damon.
"Bonnie."
"I'm Harry," Harry said, sticking his hand out.
"It's a pleasure to meet you Harry." Damon shook his hand. Harry waited for him to pull away but he didn't so Harry did. Caroline coughed and Damon turned to look at her.
"That sounds serious Caroline. Maybe you should go to the doctor," He said.
She blushed as Bonnie shook with the laughter she was trying to hold in.
"I'm fine," Caroline replied.
"Hmm," Damon looked at his watch. "As nice as this is, I've got to go. Hopefully we see each other again." He gave Harry a smile then walked away.
"Hopefully," Harry thought.
"Is it me or was he undressing you with his eyes the whole time?" Bonnie said as soon as he left.
"He wasn't just undressing him," Elena said. "He was eye-raping him. It's like he was looking at you, even when he was looking at me." Bonnie made a noise of agreement.
"What are you two talking about?" Caroline said a clueless look on her face.
"You're so delusional I worry." Bonnie said seriously.
"Why don't we get some food?" Harry suggested as he noticed Caroline's face turning red.
"We already ordered," Caroline said. "It was before you came."
"I'm not hungry anymore so you can have mine," Bonnie said as she got up. "I do, however, have to go to the bathroom."
"I'll come with," Caroline stood and walked away with Bonnie.
Harry waited till they left before he started speaking, "So now you know what Stefan's been up to."
"Yeah but I still want to know why he didn't tell me himself." She sighed.
Harry rolled his eyes, "He probably has a really good reason, stop acting like that."
"Like what?" She asked confused.
"Like a lost puppy slash detective."
"Okay fine distract me then."
"What's with Caroline? One minute she's nice and the next she's all jealous."
"I didn't say this but at school it's always been me, then Caroline, and then Bonnie. She hates being second place at anything and in the social standings she is. When Stefan got here she thought they were going to be the perfect couple but then we started going out and she saw it as me one-upping her again. She acted like a bitch towards me for a week. And I don't even do it on purpose like she thinks."
"So what you're saying is your more popular than Caroline and she is the classic popular mean girl who needs attention and is conceited. She's a lot of fun and nice but once you get in her way she acts like a bitch." Harry summed it up.
"Uh yeah that does describe Caroline." Elena said.
"She views me as a threat because a guy she just met didn't act like he was in love with her." Harry said slowly.
"Yeah," Elena nodded.
"That is really fucked up." Harry sighed. "How do you know that she's jealous of you?"
"Bonnie. She's a bit neutral in this. She tells both of us everything and we both know it."
"Wow,"
"What's so wow?" Caroline asked as she and Bonnie sat back down. Caroline looked at Elena with a questioning gaze.
"Oh I was just telling Harry about how you're the captain of the squad and how you're always coming up with awesome cheers, especially the new one…which I STILL haven't learned yet." Elena sighed.
"You have to learn it by Wednesday or you're off the squad." Caroline said seriously.
"Caroline you know why I've been busy me-"
Caroline cut her off. "Yeah I do know Elena. I know that you've been spending all your time hanging out with Stefan and I understand he's your boyfriend and you want to hang out with him and all but you have to learn how to balance out your time."
Harry frowned, his eyes turning a bit cold. "Isn't that a bit harsh? If she says she'll learn it then she'll learn it."
"Whatever." Caroline said.
They sat in an awkward silence for a bit. "Anyway you said you like guys, how long have you known?" Elena asked to break the silence.
Harry ran his fingers through his hair as he considered his answer. "Since I was fourteen I think." He finally replied.
"Have you ever gone out with a guy?" Bonnie asked.
"Yeah but I don't really feel like talking about him."
"That's okay."
A waiter with dirty blonde hair and a large smile showed up holding trays of food and placed it down in front of them.
"There you go," He said.
"Thanks Matt," Elena said, grabbing her plate. Caroline did the same and Harry took the last plate.
"So are you going to introduce me to your new friend?" Matt asked taking a seat.
"I'm Harry," Harry introduced himself and put out his hand.
"Matt." He replied and shook Harry's hand.
"So I've heard." Harry grinned, a look of amusement on his face.
Matt laughed, "So what brings you to the boring town of Mystic Falls?"
Before Harry could answer another worker came up to Matt. "Dude I'm swamped with orders," Matt nodded and the worker walked away. "Duty calls, sorry." He apologized.
"It's fine I'll see you in school," Harry smiled.
"See you there." Matt walked away to another table of people who looked irritated.
"Well aren't you friendly." Caroline said snidely.
Harry gave her an annoyed look. "Yeah I am actually" He replied. He tried his fries and found that they were surprisingly delicious. He happily attacked his burger and fries. Elena stared at him as he ate his food.
"You must have been really hungry." She said with laughter.
Harry nodded and swallowed, "Yeah I was actually," He said sheepishly. Elena patted him on the back.
"It's okay it happens to the best of us." She said and turned towards Bonnie to answer a question he hadn't heard. Harry took the opportunity to examine the grill and everyone in it. He saw some vaguely familiar kids from school and some adults. Harry's eyes turned towards the entrance and saw the Sheriff coming in. He had a confused look on his face as she started coming towards them. Caroline bounced up and hugged her, "Hi Mommy,"
"I just came by to give you the key and to tell you that I won't be home for a while." Sheriff Forbes said. The resemblance between her and Caroline were vague, the only thing that was similar was their hair, and even that was different.
"Where are you going?" Caroline asked, taking the key from her mother.
"I have to go to a council meeting and I don't know how long it will take." Sheriff Forbes explained.
"Oh okay," Caroline said sitting back down. Sheriff Forbes waved goodbye to everyone and walked away.
"What the council?" Harry asked Elena.
"The Founders Council is a group of adults who are in charge of running the town; the Council was originally created by the Founding Families." Elena explained.
"Cool," He murmured losing interest. They spent an hour or so talking but after the sun started going down they went home promising to talk to each other the next day. All in all, it was a good day.
