"Aria! Aria!" Hanna said, waving her hand in front of my face.

I shook myself. "Yeah, Han?"

"And she's back. Where were you just now? It's like you were in the Eclipse Zone or something." Hanna said, mildly annoyed.

"Hanna, it's Twilight… Twilight Zone." Aria corrected.

"Don't distract me. What distracted you?" Hanna frowned, tilting her head and trying to look where Aria had been staring. "Spencer? Spencer Hastings? Why are you staring at Spencer freakin' Hastings? You've never even spoken to her. You're not still hung up on that whole Soulmate thing, are you?"

"Maybe…" Aria winced. "Look, I know I'm right. We're meant to be together. I know it." Seeing Hanna's incredulous expression, she continued. "Have you ever just seen someone and thought, this is it. This is the one. The person I'm meant to be with. And then you might not even know her, but you make eye contact? And when your eyes lock, the world around you doesn't matter anymore. It's like the ground drops down, and you're floating. Just the two of you in your own little pocket of time and space. But you're still being held down somehow, because all of a sudden they become your gravity. And you're… linked. And it's irrevocable. That's how I felt when I looked at Spencer. And I know she felt it, too."

"You got that from a nanosecond of eye contact years ago?" Hanna asked.

"It wasn't years." Aria defended.

"You first saw Spencer when you were nine. I'm guessing you made eye contact around then. And seeing as you haven't even spoken to the girl in, like, ever, I'm also willing to bet you looked away immediately and turned bright red while you stared at your shoelaces." Hanna smirked.

"... Shut up." Aria muttered, blushing and looking at the ground, letting her hair fall down, shielding her face from Hanna's smugness.

"And while we're at it, if you feel like that then why are you still leading Fitz on?" Hanna asked.

"He's… There."

Hanna rolled her eyes. "Well, that's fine, then."

"No, he's there when I need him to be and…"

"And?" Hanna encouraged.

"And what if I break up with him? He's my teacher. What if he fails me? English is, like, the only thing I'm good at." Aria panicked.

If that's what you're afraid of, break it to him gently. Hey, if you can get him to dump you, you might even be able to skip a few assignments, get a couple of easy A's…"

"Hanna!" Aria exclaimed. "I'm not going to break up with him for a few good grades."

"Break up with who?" Ali asked, approaching with Emily on her heels.

"No one. Hey, Em! Happy birthday for yesterday!" Aria exclaimed, hugging the swimmer, who hugged back enthusiastically. Ali coughed, and Emily reluctantly relinquished her hold on Aria, and stepped back behind Alison.

"So how was your birthday? I'm so sorry we couldn't be with you!" Hanna cried, wrapping an arm around Emily. Alison coughed again when the hold went on for too long, and Emily tried to pull away, but Hanna only held her tighter. Alison glared at the two girls and tapped her foot impatiently.

"Han, this hug is a chokehold." Emily coughed. Hanna let go as slowly as possible. She caught Alison's eye and glared back.

The bell rang.

"Guys, we need to get to lessons." Alison said, grabbing Emily's hand, yanking the athlete towards her and storming towards their first class, dragging Emily behind her.
