Portals
Gemi stood by the Captain her arms crossed and glared at him. He just ignored her while he worked on his portal, well their portal but he seemed to have forgotten that.
"I have the right." She snapped at him and he grunted and she suspected he also rolled his eyes; it was hard to tell with him. "That's my entire family you're messing with and if you have another mess up…"
"They lived didn't they?" The Captain asked finally turning around to look at her.
"They fell three hundred feet! Mortals can die from falling thirty! That's ten times more!"
"I can do maths you know." The Captain grumbled.
"Then why didn't you open it at the top of the tower by the door or something?" Gemi demanded.
"So there'd be an excuse if any of them didn't come back." He snapped at her and her breath caught slightly. The thought hadn't even crossed her mind.
"Do you intend for any of them to not go back?" she asked slowly.
"One or two." He said shrugging.
"One or two? One or two?!" she shrieked. "You can't be serious?" He didn't say anything. "How many? How many? "
"I don't know." He sighed.
"Okay. You no longer have a choice in the matter, you are going now and I will sort them out and meet you when we have all three."
"No." The Captain said bluntly staring at her, she glared at him.
"You can't tell me what to do." She said quietly.
"Yes I can." She opened her mouth to retort when there was aloud squeal behind her and she span around to see Josh tickling Di as he carried her over to them. She turned around to face the Captain again and smirked.
"Want to bet?" She asked and smiled in satisfaction as he scowled. "Josh, he won't go and let me handle the portals for the other four." She whined at her boyfriend who looked up at them and frowned thoughtfully.
"You know she might have a point." He said thoughtfully. "Somebody needs to start doing something about the existence problem as soon as possible and we can easily handle opening a few portals to then and letting them sort everything out. I mean do you really think Gemi will mess up opening those portals?" The Captain rolled his eyes and looked at Di.
"What do you think?" He asked.
"I agree with Grandpa Josh." Di replied after a moment. "Shouldn't you already be at the beginning? This started years ago and the longer it goes on the bigger the problem. I mean the end problems been fixed and the time one it would be really irritating to fix all of them and fall at the final hurdle."
"Which happens to be the biggest problem ever and the most dangerous of them all and nobody knows how to actually fix it." The Captain said.
"But we have a good idea and you need to go and delay it for us to get the stuff and meet you there so that we can figure out the problem, we can't do that is we keep getting hit by shock waves." Gemi reasoned.
"And even if I go now the shock waves will still come Gemini ."
"But there's a higher chance of stopping them quicker." Josh added. The Captain glared at him before sweeping his gaze over Di and back to Gemi.
"Fine, but you need to keep to the plan and you can't help Orion." He stressed causing her to laugh.
"I don't need to." She leaned over and placed her hand on the portal opening it up to show nothing but darkness that stretched outwards for eternity. "After you." She mocked bowing him out.
"Don't die." He said stepping through and disappearing into chaotic dust almost instantly a wave of dust rose up and surrounded them as the ground shuddered like a magnitude nine earthquake creaking and very, very faintly laughing at them. The dust vanished as soon as it had appeared and Gemi didn't need to walk over to the path to know that the numbers of the refugee came just behind them had halved and the buildings had all gained another layer of soot and scorch marks.
"We're being played." Josh said quietly brushing dust off of his shoulders.
"Of course we are." Di snorted. "Who's ever heard of laughing earthquakes?" Gemi smiled slightly.
"Us?" She suggested before reaching over and tapping the portal again and again until it split into two scenes one showing a hill overlooking the sea the moonlight shimmering on the water as the clock froze and the other a very familiar scene.
"I guess it's time to drag everybody else away from their relatively normal lives." She sighed and pressed her palm against the runes along the edge of the archway that was the only portal in the universe let alone Paradise and now was the only time that she ever regretted sending somebody from one scene to the other or sending somebody through.
"You're going to hate me for this later." She whispered staring at the frozen scene before pushing her power into the runes to set them off and fundamentally changing her own life.
"See you soon."
So yes you will get a chapter every fortnight but don't be surprised if it's a few days late. It's three weeks until Easter when I will go on a writing spree and hopefully write all four/five chapters until the end of May when I'll have more time, hopefully after my exams, but updates will be iffy from now until the summer holidays at the end of July so sorry.
If you're just reading this now chapter one is up in full.
Anyway I'll hopefully see you in two weeks with some Percy Jackson awesomeness.
I would say I don't own anything in this chapter but I pretty much own all of it apart from the fact that Gemi's parents are Percy and Annabeth so yeah.
