The boy is strong
Weak, yet strong
The sword held in his hands is surprisingly steady.
The bandits are approaching
But the child holds his ground.
I recognize potential in that small child
And know I must save him, even if it takes me from my tasks.
I draw my sword and attack.
The boy falls to the ground as the men fall.
I leave him there, kneeling on the blood-stained dirt.
Moonlight filters down on the scene,
Sparkling on his hair which is red.
Red like the blood he kneels in.
I turn my back,
Leaving him behind.
I return at dawn and stop in my tracks.
The child has buried the dead.
He is strong
Weak and yet strong.
I will take him as an apprentince.
He will be a good apprentice,
Even if he is weak outside,
He is strong inside.
I like what I see in him.
He will be a strong fighter
And brave.
So I shall train him.
The weak, strong child.
