Fox Mulder woke up on an ordinary morning, on an ordinary day, to find his bed empty. He was curious at first, but figured Scully was already up, following her morning routine. He gave out a tired sigh, and got up to go find his fiancée.
He walked to the kitchen, hoping he would find her sitting by the kitchen counter drinking coffee. When she wasn't there he frowned, and before he could go and check the backyard, a piece of paper caught his eye. It was in Scully's handwriting. As he began to read he felt the grin he was unaware he had begin to fade.
His heartbeat grew more eradicated, his breath coming in short bursts and slowly ceased all together. His knees gave out, and his eyes began to water.
'Not Scully.'
He finished the letter ad let out the choked sob that had been compressed within his lungs and throat.
'Not Scully.'
He quickly dragged himself to his feet and ran to the garage, praying Scully's car was still there, and he could beg her to stay.
'She hasn't left yet, she didn't mean it. Stay Scully, stay.'
He burst through the door to the garage, and immediately crumpled to the ground in defeat.
Scully's car was gone.
He started shaking and couldn't stop.
'Not Scully.'
His eyes started to water as images of her face started to flash in his mind.
'Not Scully.'
He was going to loose it. He was going to loose it all, right on the garage floor, and he could do nothing about it. Until Mulder heard his son's cry's. They were faint at first, but grew louder reminding Mulder this was not all a dream. His son's sobs grew louder, than louder still, until he picked himself up and ran to William's room.
There the screaming baby lay; wrapped in the blanket his mother had put him in only a few hours earlier.
'Not Scully.'
He picked the boy as gently as he could and held him as close as possible.
"Hey baby boy. Whatcha doin'?" He chocked out with a voice not completely his own; a voice clogged with guilt and sorrow.
"It's okay. It's alright. Everything's going to be alright." He whispered over and over again, a softly spoken mantra to comfort himself, and the crying baby boy in his arms.
'Not Scully.'
Sorry this chapter's so short. They will get longer with time….
