…Chapter Two…
"Have a seat." Detective Carter offered as he sat down behind his desk, then Ashlee plopped down in the chair. "Now, do you know why you're here?"
"Yeah." she nodded. "Because my mom is dead."
"First, who is that man out there to you?"
Ashlee crossed her arms over her chest. "Did you bring me in here to talk about him or why the hell my mother is dead?"
Detective Carter chuckled a little, taking out his note pad. "Okay, then." he grabbed a pen. "When was the last time you seen your mom?"
"Hold it." Ashlee held up her hand. "Do I need my lawyer for this?"
"No, no. I'm only going to ask you a few simple questions, just standard procedure, so no lawyer needed, not right now, at least."
"Fine." she nodded. "Last time I seen her was two days ago. I've been over my friend Brooke's house since then."
"Can she confirm that?"
Ashlee glared at the detective. "Wow, really? Are you sure I don't need my lawyer?" she pulled out her cell phone. "Because I can call him."
"You don't need him, not just yet."
"What the hell does that mean?"
"Let's just get back to the questions."
Ashlee groaned. "Fine."
Detective Carter cleared his throat. "When was the last time you seen Tony?"
"About the same time."
"Where and what were they doing?"
"Well, both of them were in the kitchen eating breakfast, before I had to go to school."
"And how did they seem?"
"Fine to me." she shrugged. "They didn't seem any different."
"Alright, I'm going to give it to you straight." Detective Carter put his pen down. "We found Suzanne behind one of the popular night clubs in town, early this morning, and Tony is MIA, but we have reason to believe that he killed her, since we found DNA and evidence that points straight to him, so with him still at large, you could be in danger as well." he paused. "Exactly, how old are you?"
"Seventeen."
"And where's your father?"
"Locked up." she looked away. "In San Quentin."
"And does Suzanne have any relatives?"
"She has a brother in California."
"Alright." Detective Carter leaned back in his chair. "Your uncle will have to be notified to identify your mothers body and now would be a good time to call up your lawyer."
"Why?"
"Since you're a minor, you will be in my custody until I can release you to any immediate family member, which would be your uncle, and your lawyer will have to file the paperwork."
"Fucking perfect." she heavily sighed. "Are we done here?"
"Yes." he smirked. "You can go wait out there, but if you leave this building, you'll have to stay in here with me."
Ashlee glared at him with hate in her eyes, before walking out of the room, and then she went up to Kozik, who was sitting in one of the chairs. "You need to call Uncle Clay."
"Sure." he stood up and took out his cell phone. "What's up?"
"He has to identify Mom's body."
"Oh, okay." Kozik nodded, then noticed the frown on her face. "What's wrong?"
Ashlee took a deep breath. "Because I'm still a minor, I can't leave until Uncle Clay gets here."
"Why?"
"Being only seventeen, I'm stuck in police custody." she paused. "And here's the kicker… I have to stay here. I can't leave this building."
"Shit." Kozik groaned.
"This just fucking sucks." Ashlee said, resting her head on his chest.
Kozik wrapped one arm around her as he dialed with his free hand. "We'll figure it out, Kid." she just nodded, while he waited for the line to be picked up.
"Yeah, hello?"
"Hey, Clay… it's Kozik."
"Now is not a good time, Kozik. We got shit going down in Charming."
"We'll you'll have to make time."
"For what?"
"Because Suzanne is dead and the cops seem to think that her boyfriend did it."
"Oh, shit." there was a ten second pause. "What about Ashlee?"
"She's fine. She wasn't there when it happened, but her being a minor, she's in the police custody, here in Seattle. I'd take her, but I'm not a blood relative."
"I'd feel a lot better, if she was with you, Kozik."
"I know, Man, I'd guard and protect her with my life, but the cops ain't gonna let her go."
"Did the police say how Suzy died?"
"No, but another reason why you'll have to come up here, to identify her body, because nobody else can do it."
"Alright." Clay took a deep breath. "I'll round up a few guys and we'll be there as soon as we can."
"Okay… oh, and Clay?"
"Yeah?"
"Regardless who has Ashlee in custody, I'm not leaving this station. I mean, if they take her anywhere, I'm going with."
"Good, thanks, Brother."
"No problem."
"See you in a day or so." Clay told Kozik, then he hung up, and slammed his phone on the redwood table.
"What's wrong, Prez?" Bobby asked, as he walked into the chapel.
Clay groaned, rubbing his face. "More shit just piled up."
"What happened now?"
"Not only do we have to deal with Abel being gone, Gemma on the lam, and Sack… that was Kozik."
Bobby looked surprised. "What'd he want?"
"A few of us need to take a trip up to Seattle."
"For what?"
"Suzy's dead and I have to go pick up my niece."
"Oh, shit." Bobby rested his hands on one of the chairs. "I'm sorry, Clay."
"I want you to stay here with Piney, help keep an eye on the garage." Clay stood up. "We have to hurry and get back, bury Sack and her, then find my grandson." he headed towards the door and turned around. "Get the guys here, so we can go."
"You got it." Bobby nodded, as he was taking out his cell phone.
"Ash, I'm sorry about your mom." Brooke said, the next day, while both of them were in the interrogation room, not knowing that Detective Carter was watching and listening in. "But why do you have to move to Cali? You should just stay at my place. You know my parents won't mind. They love you."
"Yeah and you know I'd take you up on your offer, but it's not that simple."
"Why not?" Brooke asked. "This is your home, not California."
"Believe me, I know, but since I'm only seventeen, I have no other choice, but to live with my uncle. My lawyer even has official documents stating that I have to live with him, because he has legal custody of me, but right now, I'd rather be there than anywhere else. I don't want to be in this police station or be near that creepy detective. It would even be cool if I could stay with Kozik, but I can't since he's not a blood relative."
Brooke raised her eyebrow and gave Ashlee a look, before looking down. "Bummer… so, where is Kozik?"
"Waiting outside for my Uncle Clay to get here." Ashlee sighed. "I don't want to move to Cali, I really don't know anyone."
"Well, I'll come visit when I can and we can hit up the beach or something."
Ashlee smiled a little. "That would be awesome."
...
Kozik flicked his cigarette off to the side as he saw Juice and Happy pulling up on their bikes with the van behind them. Once they walked up, he raised his eyebrow, seeing who all came with Clay. "Where is everyone?"
"I told you." Clay sighed. "We got some shit going down in Charming." Kozik gave him a 'like - what' look, as he was giving man hugs to Chibs, Happy, Juice, and Opie. "Cameron Hayes killed Half Sack and kidnapped Abel, because this ATF bitch Stahl framed Gemma for killing Cameron's son Edmond, and now she's on the lam. Jax is a mess and now this shit with my sister?" Clay scoffed. "Where's Ashlee?"
"She's in there." Kozik pointed to the building. "With one of her friends, but Detective Carter and Ash's lawyer is waiting to talk to you."
"Alright." Clay smacked Kozik on his shoulder. "Thanks." then he walked in and went up to the front desk. "Excuse me." he took off his sunglasses. "I'm looking for Detective Carter. He has my niece in his custody."
"And you are?" the secretary asked, giving him a funny look.
"Clay Morrow."
"Just a minute." she picked up the phone. "He'll be right with you."
...
"Shit." Juice lit another cigarette. "He's been in there for over an hour."
"No kidding." Happy groaned.
"So, where was Ashlee when Suzy was killed?" Opie asked, lighting his own cigarette.
"At a party, somewhere here in Seattle, which by the way." Kozik crossed his arms over his chest. "I have to find her boyfriend and beat the shit out of him."
"Why?" Juice chuckled.
"The little bastard cheated on her… fucking one of her friends."
Happy raised his eyebrow. "Derek cheated on her?"
"Yep."
"Well, let's go kick some ass." Happy suggested, cracking his knuckles.
"That's the thing though." Kozik slowly shook his head. "We'd have to be smart about it, because the prick's father is Mayor of Seattle and has some of the police force." he pointed to the building. "In his pocket." suddenly, the guys saw Clay walking out with two guys, Ashlee with two suitcases, a backpack, and another bag, and there was another girl. Kozik nodded at Ashlee's lawyer. "What's up, Chase?"
"I'm doing okay… and you?"
"Well." Kozik glanced at Ashlee for a second, before he shrugged. "I could be better."
Clay glared at the detective. "Are we done here? We didn't need an escort to come outside."
"Hey." he held up his hands. "I just want to watch and make sure Ashlee goes with you."
"Go watch over there." Ashlee pointed to the building. "I need to say goodbye."
"Alright." he smirked at her. "But I will be seeing you, to make sure you stay in Charming."
"Don't you have a killer to catch? You don't need to worry about what I do… go do your damn job and find Tony."
"Just stay in Charming, wouldn't want to see you getting hurt." Ashlee gave him a dirty look, as he chuckled, slightly shaking his head, then he walked over to the front door, and kept his eyes on her.
"Forget him, Ash." Brooke waved her hand, then gave her a hug. "I'm going to miss you. I mean, we're supposed to graduate together."
"I know, it sucks." Ashlee backed up to look at her best friend. "Tell Ian and Trisha that I said bye and to text me or email."
"I will… I'll come visit sometime."
"Okay." Ashlee nodded, then Brooke started walking to her car. "Bye."
"See you, Ash." Brooke waved as she got in and drove away.
Ashlee sighed, and noticed all the guys looking at her, then she saw a familiar face. "Hey, Happy." she gave him a hug.
"What's up, Girl?" he let go. "You doing okay?"
"I guess." she shrugged.
"Guys." Clay started. "This is my niece Ashlee." he paused. "Ash, this is Chibs, Juice, and Opie."
"Hi." she slightly nodded and the guys smiled back or nodded at her.
Clay grabbed on of her suitcases. "Ready to go?"
"Yeah." she nodded. "But after I say goodbye to Kozik."
"Make it quick." Clay grabbed the other suitcase, then him and the guys went back to the van and their bikes.
"Ash." Kozik gave her a hug. "Don't cry. I'll see you soon."
"Yeah?" she sniffled. "When?"
"Well, the club is having a funeral for their Prospect and your mom, so I'll be there in a day or two."
"I don't want to leave, but that asshole detective is making me."
"I know, Kid, but look." he backed up to look at her and put both hands on her shoulders. "I know you've been dealt a shitty card, but everything will be alright." she just frowned and Kozik sighed. "I promise, I'll see you soon."
"You better." she pointed her finger in his face.
"I promised you, alright?"
"Okay." she gave him one last hug and let go. "Bye, Kozik."
"Bye, Kid." he winked, making her smile, then he watched her get into the van, and Chibs drove off with Juice and Happy riding in front of them. Kozik glared at the detective, seeing the smirk on his face, and got on his bike, then went the opposite direction that Ashlee went.
