Author's Note: Dealing with Dragons is now available on Kindle! I was reading the introduction, and (I had no idea), did you know Talking to Dragons was written before Dealing with Dragons? I had no idea, but I may have been the only one who didn't know that. Talking with Dragons is my least favorite of the four, but I'm enjoying going back and reading it now (and then the others) to kind of see what she had to work with when she went to fill in all the backstory. It seems a bit mind-boggling to me that it was written before all the others. Is that weird to anybody else? I'll get this chapter and another one posted this week, and I'll try getting some more done soon.
Daystar, Age 1, 4 months, 6 days
Mendanbar,
I narrowly avoided two wizards in the village this morning. There are so few people in this town who can even manage a hedge witch's wart remover that I wouldn't have expected to find wizards here, but I suppose it is the nearest village the forest, even if it's a few days' walk away. Well, no matter. We don't own much. I'm packing up what I can carry with me, and Daystar and I will move. Telemain told me once that he was certain he could move the house if need be. When I get to wherever I'm going, I'll set up the mirror spell in a bucket and contact him. If he can't move it, we'll manage all the same. I can't imagine hauling wood to build a house is any more difficult than hauling around dragon sized servings of cherries jubilee.
I wanted to melt the wizards just for good measure, but I didn't want to draw attention to myself or have to make any explanations. I have to keep Daystar safe until he's old enough (and hopefully wise enough) to use your sword. As much as I will miss a handful of the conveniences of living at the edge of the village, I'll feel better being closer to the sword, even if I don't have my eye on it. I'll be closer to Morwen and Kazul and Telemain, and that will be some comfort.
About to carry your son on my back for a week, and pretty sure it ought to be your turn to carry him sometime soon,
Cimorene
