Disclaimer: I don't own the Legend of Zelda

Epona walked into the barren town where the only vegetation seemed to be tumbleweeds. Link directed Epona over to what appeared to be one of the few sources of water, a spring, at the beginning of town. He hopped off of Epona and held out his hand to help me down once more.

"You know you don't always have to help me down all the time." I joked with him.

He smiled and responded "I was taught to be a gentleman besides, Uli would kill me if she found out I didn't help the Princess off of my horse."

I landed on solid ground and we walked into Kakariko together. Even though no one was present, I still raised to hood on my cloak to be safe though it was a false sense of security.

"Hold on," Link said "Let me get the little ones down here."

A moment later he pulled out his quiver and what appeared to be some sort of mask.

"Link, what are you doing?" I asked.

"Here, put this mask on." he replied.

I took the mask from him it fit on similar to a pair of spectacles suddenly, everything became magnified.

"Zelda, look up at the watch tower and find the tall wooden pole; then turn the dial on the right." Link instructed as he prepared the bow and notched an arrow.

I followed his instructions. As he said on top of the watch tower was a tall wooden pole and to the right of it a little boy about the age of ten.

"Aren't you afraid you will hit the little boy?" I asked.

"No." he chuckled, "Just watch."

I then heard the release of the loaded string release and the arrow fly through the air and after about a second delay the arrow found its mark: the center of the wooden pole.

"WOAH LINK YOU HIT IT AGAIN YOU'RE AMAZING, WAIT LINK YOU'RE BACK, HEY EVERYONE LINK IS BACK! HOLD ON I'M COMING DOWN." The little boy's voice echoed through the air

The little boy disappeared into the watch tower as I handed Link back his mask.

"You're an incredible shot, better than I could ever hope of being."

"You are a wonderful shot, or did you forget that your light arrows helped dismount Ganondorf?" he replied.

"I couldn't hit that pole even if I had this mask." I said.

"Archery, like anything else is a skill that can be mastered with practice my 'sharp shooting' was because I had to clear rooms of keese so I wouldn't be knocked down 3 floors in any given temple. If you'd like we can come out here after dinner and practice." he said as he placed his bow back into the quiver and slung it over his back.

"I would love to" I said maybe a little too excitedly.

His eyes lit up.

"Meet me back here after dinner, we can practice then. I was thinking we will leave in the morning to return to Ordon to drop off the children and then return to castle town to fix your home if that's ok with you."

"That's fine."

A grunt soon escaped Link as he stumbled a step back. I looked over and around Link's waist was the little boy from the watch tower. He wore a type of ranch hand uniform. A red sash tied across his ruffled brunette hair, his eyes: an emerald green 10 feet behind the boy a disregarded wooden sword much too big for the boy.

"How are you Talo?"

"Good, I've missed you Link" The boy said into Link's tunic.

"I've missed you too kid."

LINK!

Two more children came running towards him one was a girl she had the same look as Talo, except her hair was a dirty blond much like Link's, her eyes a pale blue. The other child, a boy, who looked to be a toddler with clothes that were hand me downs. Both kids tackled him around the waist and they all started laughing and talking together. Two more people came out of what appeared to be a sanctuary: A boy around the age of 12 and a girl who appeared to be Link's age. The boy's eyes looked timid, but also held a sense of determination to protect those he loved. Next to him was a girl that looked about Link's age, she had blonde hair with emerald eyes and unlike the children she wore a sleeveless top and pants. She walked up to Link and he picked her up in a bear hug.

"Link put me down." the older girl said in a gasp.

Link released the girl and looked to the rest of the kids.

"It's good to see you all, but where is Renaldo I need to introduce you all to someone."

"He is in the sanctuary he will be out in a minute or so." the older girl replied

On cue a very tall muscular man with a dark complexion, eyes, and hair dressed in a leather covering with ancient designs with a white undershirt approached us all. Behind him was a girl that looked similar to the tall man, the man looked at us all and then spoke to Link.

"Young hero it is good to see you so healthy and strong. I trust this hardship is finally behind us?"

"It is Renaldo, but I couldn't have done it without all of you for believing in me."

"Link, we did nothing. You faced the hardships not us, well except for Colin over here defending Beth like he did."

The young blonde boy blushed as he looked to the younger blonde hair girl.

"Hey Link, who is your friend?" the first boy asked now staring at me intently.

"She's a friend that will be accompanying us back to Ordon. I then have to take her home back to Castle town."

"Does your friend have a name?" The toddler asked. They certainly are a curious bunch. Link looked at me for approval before revealing who I was.

"This is" Link started before I cut him off by placing my hand on his shoulder.

"Allow me to introduce myself." I said.

"Okay" Link stepped back. I then stepped forward and pulled my hood down.

"Hello everyone allow me to introduce myself my name is Zelda Harkinian, heir to the Hyrulian throne."

With great haste everyone bowed, even the children. The Shaman rose and soon the rest followed his lead.

"Your Highness, it is an honor to be in your presence. I am Renaldo, Shaman of this town, please allow me to introduce my daughter, Luda."

"Your Grace." she spoke so softly. The oldest girl stepped forward next

"Your Majesty, my name is Ilia."

"It's a pleasure to meet you Ilia."

"The pleasure is mine" she replied, her words had genuine kindness.

I looked at all the children and asked them their names

"I'm Talo."

"I'm Malo."

"I'm Beth."

I then looked at the blond hair boy.

"What's your name?" I asked.

"I-I-I'm Colin your highness." He stuttered before bowing again.

"It is wonderful to meet all of you. Link as spoken so highly of all of you. As stated before I will be accompanying you tomorrow."

"Well," the Renaldo spoke "If that is the case tonight will be the last night we will all be together dinner is almost finished let us all enjoy this night, Your Grace if you would please join us."

Renaldo held out his arm to escort me to the inn, the only kitchen that provided for the town since it was attacked. I listened to all the hardships everyone faced during the time of twilight, I wanted to help these people Kakariko has always been a stable trading post for Hyrule, even a century ago during the era of the Hero of Time. If only this town could talk and share its secrets. Learning how easily it was wiped out was hard to listen to. The conversation did eventually change to end on a high note. Saying how Link saved them all and how they formed a friendship with the Gorons. After dinner I was shown to my room I would be staying in the Inn, across the hall from Link. Everyone had went to pack and prepare for tomorrow's journey. I had nothing with me except for the clothes I was wearing. I decided to remove the golden pauldron around my shoulders and the decorative sash that hung on around my hips. I grabbed my cloak and headed down to the spring. I walked outside and towards the spring, I got closer to him and saw him playing with what little grass was there, his quiver next to him. He had taken off his boots to put his feet in the spring. He also was free of the chainmail and hat. I walked over to him and sat next to him I took off my tailored shoes and put my delicate feet into the relaxing water. Link looked towards me his eyes meeting mine. I had never really seen his face up close his eyes were a sapphire color much like my own, while they were kind and gentle they also possessed a feral and mature quality. His hair was a dirty blonde that became ruffled as the summer breeze blew. His tanned skin covering his well-defined bone structure.

"Well, shall we get started?" he asked snapping out of my gaze.

"Yes."

"Good, you've proven yourself in the battle earlier today now all you can do is practice the skills you possess. You want to hit the pole like I did earlier today correct?"

"Correct." I replied.

"Well, in order to do that you have to work up to that shot, I've set up some targets for you to aim at each one getting progressively further away. The final target the pole." He handed me the quiver. "I adjusted the resistance on the bow so it would be a little easier to pull back."

I took the quiver from him and prepared the bow as I analyzed my targets, five total. I took a stance as I pulled the string taut I found the first target and released the arrow perfect bullseye. A smile formed on my lips as I reloaded the bow and proceeded to take out each target like the first one bullseye after bullseye. All that remained was the pole at the top of the watch tower. I notched the final arrow and prepared and released the arrow, but the satisfying sound of the arrow embedding itself into the pole never came. Still determined I pulled out another arrow. I prepared and fired and like before I still couldn't hit the target. I tried again for a third, fourth, even fifth time. Frustrated I gave the bow back to Link exclaiming that it is rigged. Link took the bow from me and attempted the same challenge. He was destroying each target with ease and then he came to the pole and on the first attempt he was rewarded with the sound of the metal tip meeting the wood.

"Show off." I muttered.

"Do I detect a hint of jealousy your highness?" he asked in joking matter.

"No, and I told you no more titles."

"Would you like me to show you?" He asked.

"Is there a trick?"

"No, just a few observations on an otherwise flawless run." He said as he handed the bow back to me. "Now get in the same stance and pull the arrow back and hold it there."

I did as he asked he then walked around behind me.

"Please forgive me" he said as the wrapped his hands around mine my figure cradled against his. "This extra space between your hand and your face is the reason you don't have the power to hit the pole. Finish pulling the string all the way back."

I did as he said and on the count of three we released the arrow and on the sixth attempt I too was rewarded with the sound of the pole being hit. Excitement flooded me as I jumped into his arms like an excited child.

"See," he paused "You just needed a little more power behind it." He put me back down on the ground.

"Link, you're beginning to blush" I mentioned, but I couldn't contain the red that was invading my cheeks

"I'm sorry." he said.

"Well, shall we get ready to go?" I asked.

"We should, we have to wake up early tomorrow"

The both of us walked to the inn and I was escorted up stairs to my room. I was tired and so was Link.

"Goodnight Zelda"

"Goodnight Link"

I went to sleep with a smile it was the first time I had slept peacefully in months.
