No One's PoV

Maya came in and found Riley staring wide eyed at her.

"Hey Riles we got to get going or else we'll miss the subway... What are you looking at?"

Riley shook her head, coming out of her fear.

"Nothing, lets get going." She said as she walked past her best friend and out the door.

Maya decided not to say anything to Riley about the singing. She knew her 'little plant' was shy and she knew when not to push. Maya followed her out into the living room. She grabbed her stuff as Riley grabbed a quick breakfast then they were off to the subway.

Riley was quiet when they got to the subway which was not normal. Maya decided to talk to her, she really didn't want to ride all the way to school in silence.

So Riles?"

"Ya?"

"Why didn't you tell me that you liked to sing?"

Riley was silent.

"Come on Riley. Talk to me."

"I don't know."

They rode in silence for a few seconds.

"Well you're really good." Maya said. That got Rileys attention.

"No, Maya, you're good. I'm terrible."

"I don't know who you were listening to, but the Riles that I was listening to was great."

"You... you thought I was great?" Riley asked as her brown eyes widened. Maya looked Riley in the eyes and smiled.

"Ya. I do"

Riley smiled back and hugged her friend until they got to their stop.

"You know you need to show your talent to people. You can't keep this a secret." Maya said as they got to their lockers.

Riley got that scared look in her eyes that she always got when she was scared.

"I... I don't know. I don't think so..." She said. Her and Maya were about to head to class when Maya saw the chance Riley needed.

"Riley," she called. Riley came back, standing beside her and in front of a talent show sign up sheet. The show was in a week.

"I don't know Maya." Riley said. It only had six other people on it and one of them was none other than Missy Bradford. "Missy signed up. She is going to win, so there is no need for me to sign up."

She started to walk away, but Maya pulled her back.

"So what if Missy is signed up? You don't have to sign up to try to win, just do it for fun." Riley still didn't look convinced. "Plus just imagine Missy's face if you did win, and imagine Lucas giving you a big hug right in front of her when you do win."

Riley had a daydream look in her eyes.

"I like Lucas."

Maya just sighed, nodding and grabbed the pen, shaking Riley from her head.

"I know. So, you doing this?"

Riley thought about it for a minute, biting her lip, then grabbed the pen and wrote her name on the list.

When they finally got to class Riley and Maya sat in their usual spots, sitting side by side each other, Lucas sitting behind Riley and Farkle sitting behind Maya.

"You okay about it, Riles?" Maya asked.

Riley took a deep breath.

"Actually, you know what? I am. I feel really good about it."

The friends smiled at one another.

"Ladies."

The two turned around to see Farkle in his seat behind Maya.

"Farkle." They said in unison.

"What are you guys talking about?" They turned around to see Lucas standing right behind Riley. "Is Riley okay with what?"

"Oh, just that our little plant here can sing, like really good, and she signed up for the talent show."

"Wow, that's cool, Riley. Your pretty cool for doing that." Lucas said looking down at Riley as she looked up at him.

Riley was silent.

Riley's PoV

Lucas is standing right above me. Saying that being in the talent show is cool and that I'm. Lucas is cool, and cute... Why am I not saying anything!? Maya help!

Maya's PoV

I could sense that Riley was in trouble. So I kicked the bottom of her chair, lightly.

"Lucas" said Riley.

"Grown up voice" I said.

"Lucas hello" she said in her 'grown up' voice.

I just sat there shaking my head at I put my palm on my forhead.

Cowboy just smirked as he sat down.

"Hey Riley. Hey Maya." He said seeing me shaking my head.

I turn so I'm facing him, with a smirk on my face.

"Hello Ranger Rick McBoing Boing."

Lucas looked at her.

"You know what?" He asked.

I raised my eyebrows as I lean halfway across the aisle.

"What? Did I finally get to you, Ranger HeeHaw?"

Lucas leans into the aisle so that we are inches for each other with that smug grin on his face.

"No, I actually I really like it. You decided to combine my nicknames to make them better. I admire your dedication."

I glare at him while he grins at me. We are completely aware that Riley and Farkle are watching us. Lucas makes me feel so irritated. But I don't know if it's because he goes back and forth with me like this, taking whatever I give him and uses it against me. Or if its because I secretly kinda probably not like him. But that's ridiculous, Riley likes him, what kind of best friend would I be if I went for the guy she has a crush on. I shake the thought from my head.

"I will break you." I said still inches from him.

"Whatever you say, ma'am." He said tipping his imaginary cowboy hat but not moving other than that.

And of course, that's when Mr. Matthews walks in. When we are are so close.

"Frair, Hart no kissy kissy in my classroom. If you want to make smoochy faces take it in the hall... Wait what am I saying, Friar no kissy kissy at all. With either of them," he points at me and Riley, "okay?" Said their teacher as he sat down at his desk.

We sit back in our seats, our faces red. Riley's face was turning red too.

"Y-yes sir"

"Okay class. Can anyone tell me what history is?" Cory asked.

Farkles hand shot into the air. As usual, his was the only one. Everyone else was had that bored look in their eyes. Lucas was looking at him. Maya was looking into space like she always did. And Riley was writing in a journal.

"Yes, Farkle?"

"History is what has already happened, sir. What our ancestors did when they were alive. If we do not learn from it, we might make the same mistakes."

"Yes that's right Farkle. But we also have a history not just our ancestors."

Farkle grinned.

"Now, can anyone tell me why history is important to everyday life?"

Lucas raised his hand into the air.

"Yes Mr. Friar?"

For the first time all period Riley looked up and closed her journal, and put it at the edge of her desk.

"Everything we do, everyday no matter what it is, will one day be history. Everything we do, either something small like a game or a talent show or something big like starting a movement or standing up for what you think is right, is a new page in the book of your life. So each day you turn to a new parn and you have the opportunity to create a new page."

Riley sideways glanced at Maya smiling, grabbed her journal, opened it and started writing. Cory, thinking she was writing a note, walked over to her desk and bent down so his chin was sitting on his hands on top of her desk.

"Riley, whatcha doing?"

Riley looked at her dad.

"Just writing something."

"Can I see it?"

Riley, who didn't like hiding anything, pushed her book to her dad. Cory stood up, grabbed it and started to read it.

Cory's PoV

I grab the book and start to read it. I assumed it was a note, but it wasn't. What caught my attention was at the top of the page it said 'A friendship song about me and Maya'. I glance over it and look at Riley over the top of the book, raising my eyebrows. Riley looks back at me with her big brown eyes asking me not to say anything.

I sigh, smiling, and give it back. I go to the front of my desk and sit on the edge.

"So, why is friendship important to history?"

Riley raises her hand.

"Riley?"

"No matter where you are in life, whether you're poor or rich, friendship is your ticket."

"Your ticket to what?" Maya asked turning to her best friend. "What can you get in the world with friendship?"

Riley turned to look at her with a caring look on her face. She knew how much her friend cared and valued their friendship, but she still knew that Maya thought less of herself, at least when it came to her having a good future.

"Your life is a ride, like a roller coaster you will have ups and downs. Friendship is your ticket to a good life. When you have friends by your side, you will go up on the ride. Friendship is your ticket to anything you want, Maya. You can do anything, be anyone. You can change your life for the better with friends. The sky's the limit. Friendship is the ticket to the top of the sky, Maya."

Maya looks at her little plant and smiles. Riley smiles back.

After class the four friends walked out of the class together.

"So, Riley? What are you going to sing in the talent show?" Lucas asked as they reached the girls' lockers.

"I don't know. To tell you the truth, I'm still kinda nervous."

"You don't have to do it if you don't want to, Riles." Maya said as she closed her locker.

Riley took a deep breath.

"No. It's fine. I want to."

The two smiled at each other. They walked to the cafeteria. They got their food and sat down.

"But yeah, what song are you going to sing?" The blonde asked.

"Well, I have been writing a song..."

"Is that what you working on in History?"

"Yeah, actually its-"

At that moment, Missy Bradford came walking over to their table on Riley's side.

"So, I hear that you signed up for my talent show."

Riley didn't say anything, just kept looking at her potatoes on her tray.

"Well?!"

Maya stood open fast, slapping her hands on the table as she stood, causing Riley to jump.

"Leave her alone, Missy."

Missy just smirked "Ah."

She bent down so she was looking into Riley's eye.

"You have your little friends protecting you, huh, little plant? Can't take care of yourself?"

Riley seemed to shrink three inches. Maya was mad at Missy for making her best friend like a little kid. But also she was mad that she had called Riley her nickname for her.

"Don't call her that! That's her friends' nickname for her, and you're not her friend."

Missy just chuckled looking at Maya.

"Nickname?"

Riley's PoV

Missy turns toward me, leaning close to so only I can hear.

"More like a pet name. Why do you think she calls you that? She thinks that you need to be protected, that you can't do anything at all for yourself. Why do you think they hang out with you? So they can laugh at you whenever you do something they think is funny. You're a joke, Riley. Just a joke to them. And to everyone in school."

My friends like me for me. I'm not a joke. I'm their friend. My head knows that that's not true, but my heart breaks. I've been trying to hold it together. But when she says that I'm a joke I can't, I can't take it anymore with tears starting to form in my eyes, I push past Missy and run out of the cafeteria.

Maya's PoV

When I see Riley run out of there, with tears in her eyes, I turn towards Missy. Lucas and Farkle must have sensed what I was about to do, they jump up and, grabbing my arms, hold me back.

"No Maya." They said

Missy just smirked.

"What did you tell her?" I demand from the 'bulldozer in the pink sweater' who was smiling.

"Who...me? I just told her the truth. About what the whole school, and you guys, really think about her."

"Like what?" I struggle against the boys.

Missy just shrugged.

"That she is a joke, someone that we keep around just for a laugh." She said still standing there.

Oh my Gosh. That would destroy a person like Riley.

I try to get her but the boys pull me back so that they are between us.

" Maya. Just go and find her." Lucas said, thinking the same thing. "She needs you right now."

I take a deep breath, taking one last look at Missy. They I run to find my best friend.
