"I'll love you for a thousand more," Edward could hear his mother sing while she played.

Edward also read the thought in his mother's mind as well as heard her unanswered question as well as her outburst about the vows Carlisle and Esme made. He frowned. Carlisle has been gone for months and it was evident to Edward or well anyone else in the family that Esme missed her mate dearly. It was like the time Edward left Bella. What if Carlisle never comes back? What if he got killed? He thinks, then shakes his head. Carlisle was always a careful vampire and would always come back for Esme.

He goes over to his piano and he could smell Esme's recent scent, he rarely played it anymore unless Bella wanted him too. He starts pressing the keys for the song he wrote for Esme, when she first woke as a vampire. He smiles as he remembers how she loved it, she would beg him to play it and he would obey not wanting to make his mother upset. He plays the song, thinking back to all the memories.

Edward stares off into the forest, thinking again. Esme didn't do anything wrong, she is always so sweet and careful when it comes to Carlisle, she always thinks before she speaks because she's worried he'll get mad at her like that evil man, Charles did. He gets tears that will never fall, he felt bad that Esme was abused, by her "husband." What sort of husband does that? Certianly not Carlisle. But, in a way to Edward at least. . this was a type of abuse that Esme certainly didn't deserve.
