Albus Dumbledore was a Slytherin, following in his darker fathers footsteps, though this was a fact that it seemed many students (and a few teachers even) were not aware of. Albus spent such a small amount of time in his dormitories and mingling with his house, that more than a time or to, there was head scratching as one tried to remember, just what house he had been sorted in. He was obviously not a gryffindor, but after that the mind seemed to falter.
In his first school year at Hogwarts, Al spent more time around the owls and mice housed in the tower, than he did with fellow students. He caught a lovely Cat Snake that a 4th year Armenian student had let loose the previous year (after charming it with a spell to keep it warm in cool weather), after an annoyed teacher reminded him that snakes were Not Allowed. (of course, this may have had more to do with the fact that he charmed her seat to act like a muggles whoopee cushion might, but with added effects in smell and not just sound). In any case, it was a find that Al was very excited to make, and the snake - previously incredibly tiny, had grown much, though was not yet his full size.
Albus brought the black and grey creature down to an unseasonably warm room in the dungeons, where he placed rocks from the forest, sand taken from an hourglass he smashed, and some small plants he'd knicked from herbology when they were seedlings. He added in a silk beanie for it to curl into as well, and set about trying to find it a name.
